  1. Does anyone have any ideas if this is happening again this year? Can't seem to find any info on it. I believe the coach was full last year so seems weird to not to run it again. Failing that - if anyone is traveling back from the Pairs to Cardiff centre after the meeting and wouldn't mind giving two chaps a lift then let me know!

    Elite league 2004

This just in from BSPA HQ. Next season it has been decided that we are going to trial riders riding the opposite way round the circuit. We feel this will make the sport most exciting. Also the team finishing bottom of each league will be in fact crowned champions. The support speedway receives is so huge we feel encouraging new supporters will hamper the sports future development. We also feel that by completely changing the rules each year it gives teams a fair chance to run their club properly. This is now confirmed as being groundbreaking new in the sport world and many other sports are thinking of following speedways example. Thanks in advance BSPA

Premier League Points Limit 45 or 40

jgl07 - Should that be the price you have to pay for winning the title?? It's ridiculous. Also the main heat leaders will all increase their averages even further, therefore the season after more problems arise. Without the competition of strong heatleaders riders like Wilson, Schott, Stoney, Watson Shields etc. will all have 11 pt averages and then where are they going to fit in?? If the promoters are looking at cutting costs then how about looking at making money from getting supporters through the gate? Surely this makes more sense. Changing the rules every year hardly encourages this. Try explaining to a newcomer who maybe has been encouraged to attend Edinburgh because they have been doing well. This person is then delighted as they have won the league... maybe this person does not follow speedway too closely throughthe close season only to return next year expecting more of the same and rightly so..... What do they find.... a sub-standard team punished for winning the league and being the best team with the top riders gone and the youngsters with too much responsibility on their shoulders. It's an absolute joke....

Premier League Points Limit 45 or 40

The 45 limit has to stay. If it went to 40 a lot of teams will have to break up the mould they have set. Sheffield for example have had a very consistent side for years, this is due to youngsters developing and knowing they will have a place next year if they are good enough. Generally the maximum number of riders that change from the previous season is 2. 45 encourages riders to progress but not at an unachievable rate. If the 40 pt limit is introduced, Ricky Ashworth will probably then be second heat leader behind Sean, which is too much to ask for a rider who was reserve at the beginning of this season, same goes for the likes of Ed Kennett and Rory Schlein. NOTE TO BSPA - STOP CHANGING THE RULES. Create some stability in the sport.

    speedway. the future.

As far as the GP's go, there seems to be a problem with the depth of quality. There are too many riders in the GP's that don't warrant being there and are totally outclassed. Last nite there was a 40yr old Hungarian riding, surely there must be better riders around to make up for wildcards/injuries! As a result the racing is poor because the standard is so vast. The racing in the second half last nite was excellent, obviously the track was poor first half but surely having all 4 riders half a straight apart from each other suggests some are out of their depth. I understand riders need to be put in there to gain experience and to attract a home crowd, but for the future of the sport surely the riders who are closest to competing in the GP next season should be put on wildcards as they are the ones who need the experience. ie. the riders that are winning the international competitions/u21 runds etc. The gap between the top 12 or so is only going to widen unless the next lot of upcoming riders get there chance. There are some great riders coming through who surely deserve a chance, such as, Shields/Bjerre/NK Iversen/Janniro/Harris + others from the continent. When they have thrown in riders who clearly have potential. ie. Zagar, Bajerski etc. they have done very well and you get the impression that they will only benefit from the experience. Look at the 24 riders in the GP and it's safe to say they are not the best 24 riders in the world.
