  1. So blinkered, some posters!

Are promoters not allowed to have a working holiday, or even a holiday then?

If they have made a 'profit' from their Speedway business, how do they plow even a penny back into facilities at a stadium where the majority are merely tenants?

If the costs are, as someone suggested around £1000, to attend, what difference would that mean, adding £1000 to a track's overall budget for the year?  That £1000 (and more) can be wiped out in quick time by a rain off.

My fear is that Oxford will announce they are running the play off meeting on the same day. Given that 6 of the Cubs team are named in the U19 line up, this might cause a bit of a problem.

Not to mention the fact that I want to support the Cubs and I've got my readmission ticket for the U19 meeting.

    Now to be re-staged Saturday 21st @Cowley. 7:45pm.

Wow that's some statement! Thanks for sharing that deep insight on the Forum!

It wasn't meant to be an "I know something you don't know." statement. It was just in response to the question as to whether Phil has achieved anything this year. Just saying that there are some positives that will hopefully bear fruit.

    Gambo,

Brandon Estates clearly have absolutely no credibility in this matter so far , but they still own the site. They do not have to sell the site even if they lose the current planning appeal.

If the speedway /stock car business plan can be demonstrated to not be viable - that surely allows Brandon Estates to argue that retaining the stadium for sports/leisure use will provide no  benefit to the local community.

Surely it should be up to BE to PROVE that Speedway/Stox is not viable.

Irrespective of the current planning decision, the site is owned by Brandon Estates. They can choose not to sell it (as they have done so far) and continue to stonewall on any decisions to do anything with the site , hoping for a a bumper payday after appealing and appealing the planning consent over and over again.

The potential value of the land for residential use (or building a new hospital , a new school, an new sports centre gym etc etc ) will be much more than any use for stock cars or speedway use.

If Brandon Estates won't sell then I see no way  of speedway returning to the Brandon raceway ?

The lack of data on attendance at speedway meetings portrays Speedway as a sport administered by enthusiastic amateurs. Failure to produce such data suggests they have something to hide. Any business model for the speedway cannot be taken seriously without evidence of attendance at existing stadia.

A business model for Speedway is irrelevant. The viability of Speedway is irrelevant. The fact that someone is prepared to refurbish the stadium and run the two sports is surely an argument FOR the viability of the sport(s).

BE's failure to comply with the planning & safety requirements throughout their ownership, failure to provide and fund an alternative site for a stadium, ignoring local residents opposition for the redevelopment etc. should also be taken into account in rejecting their appeal.

Does the Championship take anything from Discovery?

Matt Ford said that his (and I presume all CL Clubs) 'office costs' of around £12,000 are covered by the Discovery payment.

By office costs, I presume that is his club's contribution to the running of the Rugby based HQ.

  7. I would just like to say thanks to the forum members who are looking in to the proceedings and keeping us aware of what is going on.:t:

I watch a bit when able, but, like others, miss large sections and are not aware sometimes who is actually questioning and responding.

Can't believe that they've spent nearly 3 days debating 3G pitches!!

Why isn't someone pointing out the fact that a 3g pitch will be used by people ( mainly men) in their teens, twenties and maybe thirties?  Brandon Stadium will provide sporting entertainment for families with children of 5 years old and adults up to 95 years old.

Why isn't more being made of the fact that stock car racing is the big money earner at Brandon?  Why do they keep the discussion to Speedway?

Because they know that a stand-alone stadium needs Stox (and other users) as a support, so are mainly concentrating on the Speedway side of it, as if to prove their point.

They ignore the Stox input as much as they can.

If the Gentleman from Sport England has been called as an Expert Witness, then the campaign have wasted their money. Poorly prepared and clearly uncomfortable answering many direct questions. I just hope Matt Ford has time today to speak.

He (Neil Allen) is appearing on behalf of the council, not a witness for SCS.

You say not hard to do but apparently it is.

    This is the regulation.

A rider may only guest for one team in any 2 legged tie (home and away)

It doesn't say you have to use the same guest for both legs.

A guest who is eligible for the home leg (+5% of the missing rider's average) may therefore not be eligible for the away leg anyway.

Would the riders be available for Saturday? Redcar have Erik Riss in the Longtrack of Nations on Sunday& possibly Connor Bailey in Poland on Sunday. Would Chris Harris be in the Longtrack as well? Held at Roden.

GB Team for Roden is Chris Harris, Andrew Appleton. Zach Wajtknecht and Paul Hurry(R)

  12. SAVE COVENTRY SPEEDWAY MEDIA INFORMATION
    E-mail: pressoffice@savecoventryspeedway.com

THE Planning Inquiry hearing into Brandon Stadium gets underway on Tuesday September 19.
This follows on from the decision of Rugby Borough Council's Planning Committee last November, in which they unanimously refused the Brandon Estates planning application.
The developers then appealed that decision, and the inquiry will now take place over an 8-day period featuring speakers and witnesses from all parties.
There will be representatives from Brandon Estates, the Council (as they defend their decision to refuse the application) and from the Save Coventry Speedway & Stox Campaign Group as a Rule 6 party.
We will be providing witnesses from both speedway and stock car racing to give evidence on our behalf, and they will also be subject to cross-examination.
The process will be detailed and will cover a wide range of topics, and a final decision is not expected until several weeks after the inquiry.
However, the proceedings can all be followed via a livestream and we are sure many supporters will wish to make use of this facility.
The link for the session on Tuesday September 19 (from 10am) is as below, and subsequent days' streams will be available from the Rugby Borough Council YouTube channel.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quacfny1d3c
We believe we have prepared thoroughly for this vital inquiry, and we look forward to hearing the evidence from all sides and having the opportunity to state our case in support of the Planning Committee’s original decision.
