The first meeting of this Winter's Tour was rained off last Saturday, so the whole event was re-arranged for this week, i rode in the Buck Buchanan Memorial event at Ruapuna Speedway near Christchurch, winning all four races using a Handicap format. I had to use all borrowed equipment as mine is still on a ship near NZ, staying over for a week meant i could go to Queenstown, trying white water rafting and other water sports, now it's a 2 week wait until the Official Tour starts over Xmas with 6 meetings in 7 days.

There has been this year a limited attempt on South Island to have league racing. Three teams are competing in the new 'Kiwi League' they are racing under the old 13 heat formula. On the web site it says the long term plan is to expand in the future.

Hi,

I will be trying to keep things up to date on the New Zealand Speedway forum i have just started found here (NZ Speedway forum)

There is results from the first meeting at ruapuna.

The meeting at Oreti Park in Invercargill on the 29th went ahead and from what i have heard Lucas Dryml was dominant and had the overall win.(more info to come soon)

The meeting scheduled for the 30th at Cromwell was unfortunately rained off.

Hopefully this will be of interest to you.

Out of curiosity in one of the earlier posts it was mentioned that we are using the "old" 13 heat format. QUESTION. What is the new format as i am new to League racing.

Chopper34, the current format for racing in the UK is 15 heats with the last heat a nominated race. In that, the team managers selects two riders based on their form over the meeting to face each other in the last heat. The 13 heat formula which is what I believe happens in the Kiwi League, was the set up when I first started watching speedway in the 1970's. Both formats have seven man teams, hope that helps. I always prefer a team meeting to an individual one so I hope the Kiwi league is a success.

Hi,

He missed his first ride with what seemed like mechanical trouble and in his next ride he showed that he was certainly capable of riding on the clay surface despite what would appear to be a case of just not liking it.

He did not appear to be taking this race too seriously as i almost expected a bit more from a GP rider.

It would have been good to see him race at Moore Park or Oreti Park as they are propper speedwaybike tracks with a real racing surface.

This is simply my humble oppinion.

Full details of placings etc available on the NZ Speedway forum HERE
