BELLE Vue have signed up World No 4 Andreas Jonsson and England Grand Prix star, Chris Harris, for their opening night Peter Craven Memorial Trophy at Kirkmanshulme Lane on March 19.

    Former Ace Jason Lyons, now with Birmingham, and fellow Aussie Shane Parker, of Glasgow, have also been booked.

  But 26-year-old Swede Jonsson is the shock competitor as he has opted out of racing in Britain this season and it will be his only meeting over here, apart from the British Grand Prix at Cardiff.

  The Aces made an unsuccessful bid to lure him back into the Elite League but then asked him to ride in the Craven meeting.

  David Gordon, the Aces' managing director, said: “We would have been delighted to have signed Andreas for 2007 but he was very honest and said he couldn't fit Britain into his schedule. He would have been a marvellous addition but he did agree to come over for the opener.

    "He felt that he had enough commitments with the Polish and Swedish leagues on top of 11 Grand Prix meetings.

    "Riding for in the UK would have meant another 40 plus matches and we have to respect the fact that he feels it would have been too much."

    The Aces have had to gain clearance from the British Promoters' Association and the Swedish authorities (SVEMO) to use Jonsson in view of the fact that he isn't riding for a British club this year.

    Gordon added: “We are also happy to have Harris taking part. He is one of Britain's big hopes for the future and is facing a massive season with his place in the Grand Prix for the first time.”

    Belle Vue's seven-man team will take part in the meeting, plus Sheffield's Ricky Ashworth and Joel Parsons, who are also on Aces' contracts.

Jonsson is wanting to get in some practice no doubt, before the Swedish, Polish and GPs start.

I think we should ask Chris Louis to ride, as he got injured guesting for us last year - it would be a nice gesture to offer him some practice for the new season. Would like to see Loram there too, and maybe Charlie Gjedde.

 

Anyone else got anyone they'd really like to see complete the line-up.

I'd personally like to see Herbie there, and maybe someone young, gritty and determined - with a bit of talent too!! Maybe Zagar or Hampel, just someone to make the meeting interesting. Anyone for Hans Andersen...............???

Judging from the line-up it's AJ's to lose. I think he is just that bit better than the rest of the field.

BELLE Vue have booked two former World champions for their opening Peter Craven Memorial Trophy at Kirkmanshulme Lane on March 19.

  Aces' legend Ivan Mauger, who won the title six times, will be over from his home in Australia and has accepted an invitation to be the guest of honour.

  And Gary Havelock, the 1992 World champion, will be a guest rider in the meeting along with Grand Prix stars Andreas Jonsson and Chris Harris.

  Rising Aces' star James Wright, of Stockport, has been named in the ten-man squad for the Under-21 Test match against Denmark at Oxford on March 18.
