June 203 Posted February 9, 2011 Personally i don't think the team will be the Scunthorpe Saints if we take on half of the meetings this season. I hope we get the Vikings back . Vikings? Shock horror! No its the SAINTS
spin king junior 394 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Vikings? Shock horror! No its the SAINTS Why should it be the Saints if they're doing half of their meetings at Sheffield. Doesn't make much sense really. I think it'd be best if we went through a similar route to what Cradley did with Birmingham and Wolverhampton, give a team without a home another chance and see the possible revival of the Hull Vikings, maybe if they get enough Hull fans coming to the meetings then they could possibly get their own track again. Because they are the Saints and have been for 3 years. Why change the name ......NL 10 teams = 18 meetings......only 4 meetings at Sheffield. ?

Then what's the point in any meetings being at Sheffield I've already given a reason to change the name and with less tracks being available then why not give any possible chance to try and get another team going again? scribbler 213 Posted February 9, 2011 Then what's the point in any meetings being at Sheffield My guess is that Sheffield are tentatively thinking about reviving an NL team. By working with Scunthorpe this year and having a few meetings at Sheffield they are testing whether there is enough interest. Maybe next year we'll see a Sheffield team in the NL... Good point I'd love to see national league racing full time at Sheffield again. I guess we'll find out more in tomorrows speedway star ! Albert 304 Posted February 9, 2011 The Saints offers us Scunny fans genuine hope of success this season....the thought of us sharing with Sheffield has just dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. Love Scunny, Love the Saints, there meetings last season were just as, if not more entertaining as the Scorpions....don't think i'll bother travelling to Sheffield to watch them. I'm sure Robs doing this all for good reason, it can't be easy fitting all the meetings in without running double headers etc...but I'm feeling a bit deflated now, it's like we're losing part of our identity and the success that is The Saints. I dont know the answer to the first part of your question.......For Sheffield/Hull to have a N/L team on your track.... would this be possible? I'm not sure. All I know is that I love this level of racing, don't miss matches or practices and feel the team slipping away from us fans at Scunny.? We've done all the hard graft with the youngsters ( not me personally ) we were content to watch the lads go through the learning curve last year and expect better things to come this year! Ben91 1,743 Posted February 10, 2011 The Scunthorpe V Rye double headers in recent years have been fantastic, I'm hoping that the Saints V Hawks fixture will be staged as the second part of a Scorpions/Rockets double header again in 2011, if not I won't be as tempted to travel i'm afraid. squall 270 Posted February 10, 2011 It seems a few are going for the 'pull the ladder up, Jack' approach. Cradley were a hugely popular team, closed, then came back last year at Wolves and Birmingham and was a huge success. The Hackney name is being brought back into the speedway world this year thanks to Rye House and Lakeside, but we cannot try and put Hull Vikings back in view because it's Scunthorpe? It's not long since there was NO speedway in Scunthorpe and Hull won everything. I wonder if the same people would have objected to things if they were the other way round? (the answer is - No, they'd effing beg for it!) The attitude from some stinks
montie 1,273 Posted February 10, 2011 either way it has to be good for the development of these riders and a strong looking team put together also,Richie Worrall at reserve has to be a huge bonus for this team, nice to see a rookie given ago again also Think they may well be the team beat this year

They have a strong chance of success this year & if as a fan you have supported all these riders for 1 or more years & they are successful & win something then you would be happy whatever name they ride under. gypilgrim 0 Posted February 10, 2011 Has anyone seen the Speedway Star this morning? Any flesh on the bones to report ? I subscribe to the SS but won't get to see it until later as I'm out well before the postman arrives.
Lewis 76 Posted February 10, 2011 http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/sport/Saints-squad-link-Sheffield/article-3205613-detail/article.html this is the link confirming the home match will be split between Scunthorpe & Owlerton. I see some feel let down & I can understand the sentiment BUT I do believe that as it was running the Saints must have been operating at a loss, with the stockcars covering the cost. Tying up with Sheffield should give a bigger catchment, 2 different tracks to specialise in, potentially more fans, split costs (profits or losses). I dont know anything about the name changing but it would make more sense next year maybe to have some form of name-tie up to encourage the Sheffield fans as they could hardly be exepcted to support Scunthorpe even if they are riding at Owlerton. Regarding the Hull name, I dont think this has anything to do with Scunny? geographically you could say we are the closest team, at 29 miles though & in a different county you could hardly say there is anything in common? Dont get me wrong I used to watch the Vikings as a lad, thoroughly enjoyed it & I know Scunthorpe have supporters from Hull & I would like nothing more than for them to compete again, in fact I'd even go watch but to associate them with teams 29 & 65 miles away doesnt make sense to me.
