21st century heathen 220 Posted July 12, 2011 I wouldn't be so sure about it being a walk in the park for the Heathens. I'm more than a little nervous at the moment. Jon's form has dipped a little, Darryl moves into the top 5 (surely that wasn't in the pre-season plan of action?!) and we have two riders making their debut at reserve tonight. We desperately need Jon back to his very best, the Ash/Tom partnership to have its best night of the season and Kyle to continue his cracking form because we could easily have a very long tail tonight. With a lot of action in recent days and during the rest of this week the table could have a very different look about it in the metaphorical blink of an eye. The Stoke meetings were a real disappointment so we need to bounce back stronger than ever in the league this week to restore confidence and lay the foundations for a big push in the second half of the season. We do have home meetings in hand but it will be a wasted opportunity to put the pressure on if we start catching up tonight with anything other than all three league points. CrystalCastles 292 Posted July 13, 2011 Glad to see us get closer than I expected with the aid of TR & a few extra points that were unexpected e.g. Tom Young holding on to win heat 8. Rich Andrews put in a useful display at reserve picking up a few points. Todd & Jay led from the front & had good battles with Kyle who also put in a good display. Well done to Dudley. If so ..... oh dear! 18.9.2 For a Starting Offence (SR 15.3.4) the Team Manager may order the disqualified Rider to be replaced by a Reserve (starting in the original position) or allow the disqualified Rider, handicapped by 15 metres on the outside gate (4) in the re-run except: * If as a result of a 2nd or subsequent re-instatement it prevents the above being complied with, the Team Manager foregoes the ability to make a choice – a Reserve Replacement being the only option. * For a second offence it is a mandatory disqualification with no replacement permitted. 21st century heathen 220 Posted July 13, 2011 Yes, both Johnson and Bates were off 15m in heat 14. The above wouldn't apply because it was two different riders from two different teams for two different offences. *edit* Apologies I misread the above. It does appear that Newport should not have been allowed to put Bates back in off 15m. The only option should have been to put the reserve in. However, he was both injured and had been replaced in the heat too so he wouldn't have been allowed in even if fit to ride. Newport should have only had three riders. Ultimately it didn't matter as Bates finished last anyway. In the original staging of the heat it seemed to me that both Heathens were a bit too sharp from the tapes for the ref's liking. Neither touched the tapes and neither appeared to be rolling as such, but they were both on the move before the visitors realised what was going on. The heat was stopped and an unsatisfactory start was cited as the reason. Neither rider were warned. In the re-run it looked as though Johnson's clutch was dragging as he was trying to hold the bike back and got to the point he just had to let the clutch lever out a touch and the bike moved forward slightly. As he pulled the clutch lever in again and stopped moving the tapes rose and he missed the start. He was clearly last away from the tapes but the ref stopped the heat again and discluded Johnson for delaying the start even though he hadn't touched the tapes and hadn't received a warning. Frankly a ridiculous decision as the ref was delaying the meeting when he could have easily let the heat go with Johnson having penalised himself. As Johnson had replaced Portwood in the heat the only option was to put Johnson back in off a 15m handicap. The 2min warning was put on straight away for the next re-run. Bates was not at the tapes when the 2 min light went out so the ref discluded him too. He was also put back in off a 15m handicap. It meant that Johnson, who had been moved to gate 4 initially, had to move across one to gate 3 off 15m so that Bates could start from the outside otherwise there wouldn't have been a gate between the team partners. greyhoundp 990 Posted July 13, 2011 Darryl Ritchings, maybe it wasnt in The Heathens pre season plans to have Darryl at No2, but i have been highly impressed with the potential this young guy has shown in this his FIRST full season in the NL, he has shown Speed when he makes the gate, ability to overtake both inside and outside when he has missed the gate, and seems to have the right temperament, if he can afford to be on the right equipment then this young lad can go far in the sport, if he can get a few sponsors to back him, then there investment will be well rewarded .
