Mildenhall Fen Tigers V Isle Of Wight - Sunday 28/8/11

Recommended Posts

We have a sponsor for this Sundays meeting, Mildenhall Fen Tigers v Isle of Wight, He feels very passionate about the fact that Mildenhall should now have its own Air Fence and has come up with an idea that would hopefully get the fence in the not too distant future. These are his thoughts:

"Meeting sponsored in aid of the Mildenhall Air Fence.

Mildenhall Speedway needs an air fence, both for race meetings and practise sessions. A suitable fence is available for the price of £10,000. Clearly this is beyond the means of the club at this time so here is a plan that might help.

I propose that we ask for ten people to invest £1,000 each to enable the purchase. In return for this each investor receives admission to all Mildenhall Speedway events for five years. Effectively this is a shared ownership scheme. Maintenance of the fence will be the responsibility of Mildenhall Speedway. If during the five years of the scheme Mildenhall Speedway ceases running the fence would be offered for sale and the proceeds divided between the joint owners. If Mildenhall Speedway continues to run for the 5 years of the plan then ownership of the fence will pass to Mildenhall Speedway.

Currently we are looking for 9 more investors. I am sure we can all think of disabled ex-riders that we would love to help if only that was possible. Whilst we all have to accept their situations as they are, your help now may well prevent serious injury to riders who are currently fully fit and healthy. If you are in a position to help and this idea appeals to you please get in touch with Nikki Lee 01638 712455. email: michael.lee35@btopenworld.com or if you are at the meeting & are interested please make yourselves known at the sponsors lounge to discuss these plans further……… "

The Promotion will also be donating all monies raised at the meeting to the Air Fence Fund, Including the meeting sponsorship cost.

According to the Fen Tigers website, Stoke's Jamie Pickard guests at number one for Mildenhall in this match.

Strange choice, IMO. Jamie only scored 4 at West Row for Stoke.

You could also question having a guest in a semi final that rides for the team already in the final but I think its fair to say the current promotion must have looked at every available rider and have gone for the one they think can do the best job.

Once upon a time I would have questioned why it would be allowed, but I've given up on speedway rules, they, the real world, and common sense just dont go together do they.

But good luck to Jamie anyway.

Good meeting cracking race with jacobs, blackbird and Simmons. Good to see the meeting being run so smootly considering a couple of crashes and credit dew to the likes of RIkki Mullins for when falling off even on first bend getting up straight away and carrying on.

It was a good meeting Ben, and well done to the promotion for getting it through quickly with the unsettled weather about the area.

A shame the IoW were weakened, why wasn't Paul Starke there? I didnt hear any reason announced?

Another good all round team performance following Saturday evening at Rye House with all riders contributing. Good to see Mark Baseby back on track this weekend and riding really well, he will be a big asset to Mildenhall on the season run in. Shame Danny crashed out in his last ride, but good to see him fire in three straight wins :approve:

20 point lead should be enough for the return hopefully and a place in the KO Cup final.

Very impressed by some of the youngsters riding round afterwards, especially a lad called Josh Bailey  looked very smooth and one for the future!

Very impressed as usual with Nick Simmons performance around Mildenhall, he must be one of the most consistent visiting riders over the years, Danny Warwick gave him good backing, but unfortunately two riders cant do it by themselves and a 20 point victory was always on the cards although at heat 7 and only 4 points ahead I did begin to wonder !

Heat 5 was a cracker with Simmons, Blackbird and Jacobs all having the lead at some point and with almost a dead heat on the line, great advert for NL speedway.

Mick Bates was certainly on the ball yesterday with two minute warnings coming on very quickly to get the meeting through before any rain arrived, ironic that heat 15 and the second halves were run in bright sunshine, but better to get it over as at one point those clouds looked very heavy indeed.

Which just goes to show how unpredictable the good old British weather can be, one minute sunshine, then threatening rain and then back to sunshine, without any rain actually falling. Imagine being a promoter and having to decide do we run/don't we run? What's the weather going to do? For many "fans" (terms being used in loosest poosible terms here!) it's easy to critise the decisions taken, especially when it is not their business about to lose valuble income as a result!

But hey ho, another crack of a meeting at West Row and certainly the Fen Tigers have hit form at the best possible time. Hopefully they can complete the job against the Isle of Wight and we have a cup final to look forward to, and also confirm their place in the play-offs!

Quite a good meeting considering the IOW aren't the strongest team and yet again the promotion and team done all the right things to ensure the meeting ran smoothly and in the Fen Tigers favour!

Indeed plenty of nice touches too from the promotion, including kids for free during August, face painting, meet the riders plus even reducing the programme to £1 as it was the rain off one plus an insert :approve:

Excellent press coverage to in the local rags, Bury Free Press (excellent coverage usually two pages now), Mildenhall Journal, Bury Mercury, Ely Standard, Thetford local to name a few! :approve:
