The British Final 13th May

Recommended Posts

Wolves shouldn't really be a trick track any more, the 'Karlsson corridor' has been common knowledge for years.

Trick track? It is only newcomers to the EL that will find it a trick track.

The vast majority of EL riders (and i am sure some NL riders too) love riding it and for the majority isn't a trick track anymore given the regularity of appearances made due to riding the track more often than seasons gone by when a club appeared once a season.

The trick track idea seems to still be peddled by some to try and dis-credit it as a bona fide good race track.

Those who probably watch their meetings on a big track will travel to Monmore and feel it is a trick track, but i bet most riders wont agree with that anymore these days.

Seasons gone by maybe a trick track, no longer tho.

Wolverhampton does tend to have some track specialists.

So do most tracks.

Whatever your views of Wolverhampton as a venue for the biggest domestic meeting of the year, why are the riders not given an opportunity to practice on the track (if they want to) prior to the meeting?

Why would they need practice?

Plus the only sensible answer to that question would be the same as any meeting - greyhounds run till 6.30 (bit before) and only then can the greyhound track be prepared to be covered before any racing can start.

Why would they need practice?

What if a PL rider qualifies for the British Final, he has possibly never ridden the track before, whereas the EL riders (particularly if they ride for the hosting club) will be more familiar with it. Shouldn't everyone have an opportunity to get their set up right before the meeting begins?

They have practice before the GP's and World Cup so that the riders are familiar with the track and can set up accordingly. Why not with the British Final, where everyone is suppossed to have an equal chance?

You make a fair point actually.

For it to be fair then the track needs to be one that is prepared well and can have access a few hours before to allow practise to back place.

Are there really many tracks that could provide access at say 4 or 5 PM on a week night (assuming that is at SKY`s request?)??

The qualifying Semi Finals are at Edinburgh on 19th April and Sheffield on 25th April.

Bit Far up for me ,was hoping Swindon Somerset ,I think this is where the best racing may be and not the Final

I'd practice for sure if we had the oppurtunity to do before the meeting. I've rode in the British final at wolves twice now and found It hard going as I last races there in 2005! it's allways going to be a tough meeting but Evan more so when your racing against riders that practically race there every week
