Wolverhampton 2014

Recommended Posts

It is very much guess work as to what team strengths are going to be next season but it does seem that finally British Speedway is going to make the sport financially viable by cutting down on the big earners and concentrating more on the regular and committed second strings that are not racing so much abroad in various leagues and competitions.

Thankfully Tai has seen the benefit of racing in Poland, Britain and the GP's and not having such a cluttered fixture list and think that will continue next season as Tai lines up at Monmore Green as the #1 in the team, the league and the world. Howeverif the points limit is lowered, it is more likely that Wolves could then only fit in two riders around the six mark to back him up. That could point towards Skornicki and Proctor while Ricky Wells and Jacob Thorssell are sure to be in the plans too.

Those five total 31.08 so if the limit is lowered some what, then there would be little left for the last two places so you would have to be looking at Pontus Aspgren 3.15 (34.23) as a possible and the final place possibly going to Ashley Morris who would also double up if riders are allowed to. Basically it would be replacing the Lindgren's with Aspgren and Morris.

That is going to be the big question for me. It's ok saying there will be less top riders and the likes of Barker, Proctor, Cook etc becoming heat leaders next season, but if there are going to be more matches then how could they also double up as PL teams wont be much weaker and there will be more official fixtures which would give more clashes in meetings. If you stop these riders doubling up, they will look to ride abroad also which then begs the question of availability once more.

It's going to be an interesting close season and it looks like everyone will have to pay a penalty in some way for the over spending by tracks for too long and hopefully tracks, riders and fans will see a benefit in the long run with a healthy British Speedway scene that is affordable for all even if it means some riders in the lower leagues maybe having to work during the season to pay the bills.

Ludvig - Relaxed if he stays, relaxed if he goes. Presume Brum won't want him

I woulden't be so sure, I expect us to retain Covatti who should improve with experience, but Auty has stagnated a bit this year and Mick Horton will undoubtedly be a pain in the arse to any attempt to retain him, so I suspect Brum will need a 2nd reserve and could well recall Lindgren Jnr.

Ward and holder will be at Poole when the points limit is raised to 50 for 2014.

If the points limit is lower than 38, I think you can forget everyone on a 9 average bar Woofy, two big hitters with such a points limit would be madness as the other 5 would barely be batter than reserves.

For Poole it will be Holder or Ward or more likely neither.

Theres Hints on Twitter that Tai has signed for a club in Sweden. That might change things as he may decide that Sweden, Poland, GPs are enough

Just going on the Swedish 2014 thread in the International section. The info is usually pretty accurate, albeit only rumoured at this stage.

Amazing achievement by Tai Woffinden to win the World Title in 2013 when the Grand Prix had the strongest line up ever and to make the top 8 would have been the target back in March. Fully deserved for the way Tai has worked on and off the track and to overcome the injuries and ride through the pain barrier.

With the GP's, Wroclaw and now Sweden in 2014, Tai will no doubt be lining up with Wolverhampton too but it is going to cost them to keep the new Monster rider next season. With Freddie looking to make changes next season, it may be pay Tai or lose out.

Many congratulations to SGP 2013 World Champion Tai Woffinden! Unfancied at the start, broke his collarbone twice and still comes out on top, an outstanding achievement.

Hopefully this will give British speedway a boost when it most needs it. :t:

Back after a great weekend to see Tai clinch the unexpected World Title but he has richly deserved it this year in every way and that heat five was unbelievable to not only beat the three Poles but to see Meidzinski get past Hampel was the icing on the cake.

As for 2014, only time will tell now as Tai will be looking at making the most of being the man in demand and looks to have already sorted his Wroclaw and Vetlanda contracts along with a couple of big sponsors that will pay the going rate for the World #1 and hopefully he will sort out a deal with Wolves for next year also.

Freddie saw his big change to a new tuner backfire in Torun, but then on Sunday won an open meeting in Ostrow against a pretty strong field including Hancock, Pedersen, Jonsson and Woffy. He hasn't had a great 2013 but looks to be changing a few things for next season and riding in Britain could be the one that misses out and it looks impossible that any team will have two big hitters next season ....... Will it be Tai or Freddie next season ..... if any at all ?

Frankly it may cost more money, but I firmly think that Tai has to be included next season, not only for the team but also for British Speedway and the profile of the sport. We can't afford to miss out on having the first British World Champion not appearing in Britain and hope it's Wolverhampton that gives him the place he richly deserves.

With Ty Proctor and Jacob Thorssell all but nailed on, it would be a big suprise if Ricky Wells isn't included even after a season that failed to see him build on the success of 2012 but he still has potential and is a decent second string who would be ideal for the #2 race jacket. Meanwhile on a 3.15 average, Pontus Aspgren has to be looked on as a bargain at reserve who can challenge for a spot in the main body.

What that leaves remains to be seen but at least we have the foundations to build on and although that is regular faces back again, the club has too many good assets not to use and maybe the last two places will go to new faces to inject some new blood into the team.
