Humphrey Appleby 13,984 Posted January 28, 2014 All this is the practical reality of 'pulling up the drawbridge' as plenty advocate on another thread. If immigration is supposed to be made more difficult, then there's no real reason why speedway should be exempt.
Sotonian 610 Posted January 28, 2014 Immigration is permanent and a different argument altogether. This is about temporary working visas.
sussex bulldog 41 Posted January 28, 2014 I can't see it mentioned anywhere else but it seems Jason Doyle has been refused a permit now.
The White Knight 9,039 Posted January 28, 2014 Why don't these Riders move to Bulgaria or Rumania - they'd have no problem coming here then.
A ORLOV 8,628 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Why don't these Riders move to Bulgaria or Rumania - they'd have no problem coming here then. They can come here but a foreign national from outside the eu cannot work without a work visa. Edited January 28, 2014 by A ORLOV

So we are treating these bloody Europeans better than our GOOD FRIENDS from Australia, New Zealand. GREAT!!! A ORLOV 8,628 Posted January 28, 2014 Not long ago it was put out that a group of MPs and a couple of promoters had set up meetings to help speedway in this country. Would this group have any clout with the people who issue visas?
SCB 15 Posted January 28, 2014 So we are treating these bloody Europeans better than our GOOD FRIENDS from Australia, New Zealand. GREAT!!! It does seem all wrong does not it ? "Our GOOD FRIENDS"? Have you tried getting a visa to work in Australia? Yet we let any Aussie speedway rider in. Not long ago it was put out that a group of MPs and a couple of promoters had set up meetings to help speedway in this country. Would this group have any clout with the people who issue visas? As a few said at the time, lets see what they achieve, nothing so far.
Humphrey Appleby 13,984 Posted January 28, 2014 Immigration is permanent and a different argument altogether. This is about temporary working visas. A lot of immigrants are temporary workers, and I'm sure many on the other thread would advocate pulling up the drawbridge on them too.

Humphrey Appleby 13,984 Posted January 28, 2014 So we are treating these bloody Europeans better than our GOOD FRIENDS from Australia, New Zealand. I think that the percentage of those in Australia who are ethnically non-British or Irish now exceeds those who are. So they're 'bloody Europeans' if they come to the UK directly from 'Europe' but automatically our good friends if they go via Australia... In fact, a lot if the problem with work permits and the like is because fewer Australians have British patriality these days.

What do you expect, Australia & New Zealand fought by the side of GB in World War 2. While Bulgaria & Romania fought with the Germans.
