60th Individual Finnish Final, Seinäjoki 16th August

Recommended Posts

Jari Mäkinen is the new Finnish champion after literally doing Smolinski's in the final.

Aarnio shot from the gate to the lead in the final heat. Kauko and Hautamäki tussled in the first bend allowing Mäkinen to come from the inside to take second on the backstraight. Entering 3rd bend Aarnio's engine gave up and Mäkinen took the lead.

Mäkinen rode solid while others battled at the back. They didnt get to a chance of passing, but would not necessarily have passed him either.

No one saw this coming, good for Jari. Hopefully this shakes the monkeys off his back and he can keep gathering momentum.

EDIT: Corrected some typos having written the original post on my mobile on the road. Passenger side. ;)

Got the jist despite the typos.

60th Individual Final. Thats a good time.

I remember a rider, think it was late 50's/early 60's - Anti Pajari (think that was his name), think he rode for Coventry and I think he was a Finnish rider.

There is a lot of "thinks" in there as I am not sure.

Any one else have any recollections??

There was and he was. 60 Finnish champs is more than Brits have. Though your first few were actually world champs.

National Championship is surely more important?!

One would love to think so. From past 10 years I think only Kaj Laukkanen and Tero Aarnio have prioritized our final over other commitments. I appreciate it a lot.

Lahti's case is quite simple and perfect example. He makes about 1,5k from the Eastie meeting ( MY ESTIMATE TO MAKE THIS EXAMPLE) and on the other hand would have to dish out the same to appear in Finland on his brothers bikes. Thats 3k in between.
