PRESS RELEASE FROM STOKE SPEEDWAY

 

Stoke “Eazy Rider” Potters have qualified for the final of Speedway’s National Trophy. This was confirmed at Sittingbourne last night when Kent’s victory over Leicester ensured a safe passage to the Final for the Staffordshire Club. It is a just reward for the Potters who finish joint top of the National Trophy Table with the team that they will meet in the Final - the redoubtable Mildenhall Fen Tigers. It will evoke memories of two great Knockout Cup matches in 2011 when the teams met in the final the honours going to Suffolk on that occasion. The Potters are still in the Knockout Cup having reached the semi-final where they face Kings Lynn Young Stars in a two leg clash.

 

Stoke’s success has swiftly changed their remaining fixture arrangements the new details are listed below:

 

Wednesday 17^th September Kings Lynn (Away) Knockout Cup Semi Final First Leg (7.30 pm)

 

Saturday 20^th September Mildenhall (Home) National Trophy Final First Leg (7.00 pm)

 

Sunday 21^st September Mildenhall (Away) National Trophy Final Second Leg (3.30 pm)

 

Saturday 27^th September Kings Lynn (Home) Knockout Cup Semi Final Second Leg (7.00 pm)

 

Commenting on the Team’s success Promoter Dave Tattum said “We had expected to qualify but had Leicester managed a big win against Kent we could have been ousted but I am delighted for our supporters that we have reached this National Final and we are developing a strategy to win it. I would like to congratulate the riders too who rode so well to win at Kent themselves in dreadful wet conditions to win and really deserve this crack at the Trophy Play-Off Final. Team Manager Malcolm Vasey was looking beyond the National Trophy “We must sharpen up and beat Kings Lynn in the Cup and provide ourselves with a Midlands Derby Final against either Cradley or Coventry who stage their semi-final first leg tonight. They are both great teams and we proved that we can match them with our narrow victory over Coventry Storm on Sunday evening and what a humdinger that was” he said.

 

So the Potters enter the final stages of the season with the Pairs Championship already won and two further opportunities of silverware ahead of them. They are looking to their loyal supporters to get behind them aware that the hand of history could just be reaching out to them.
