Fourentee 987 Posted August 27, 2016 Before Lions joined the EL, and Belle Vue were the whipping boys, did they only get one meeting on tv a year? How many wooden spoons have they got in their prize cabinet? I've no idea how many TV meetings Belle Vue had; the name has always carried a certain cachet so perhaps that was a factor. I do know that Leicester have won fewer than a third of their meetings this season and are a fair way behind the next team above them in the table. On the Belle Vue wooden spoons front, I think it's three in the last 11 years (had a quick look at the BSPA archives) but they were reasonably competitive in two of those seasons and only cut adrift the once. SCB 0 Posted August 27, 2016 Belle Vue were rarely shown when they were the whipping boys. In fact if you look back at almost any season their a bias on sky to teams in the top half of the league as the away team.
TMW 533 Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) Because they are simply not good enough to show on Sky. At home the track produces zero proper racing, and away from home they are so weak and dire even Leicester fans don't travel.Lol !! Where as the 'shower of' I witnessed on Wed was too draw Edited August 27, 2016 by TMW

Yes I agree the track is poor but so is lakeside but Sky keep returning there several times a season. Had Leicester pulled out of the Elite League then sky would of quit speedway. Cross Roads 51 Posted August 28, 2016 I don't think they will be able to build on the land as the reason it was a green field site is because the land was contaminated by heavy metals when it was part of Leicester's sewage treatment works until the Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works opened in the early 1960's. Quite ironic, s..t farm previous..s..t track now....lol

Now I've heard it all,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what a load of rubbish . So you are saying Leicester have a good race track, or they travel well, or both?
weatherwatcher 664 Posted September 9, 2016 The Lions web site seems to be worse than ever now. Just had a look and I see that they have not given a write up about the meeting against Belle Vue. Was it that bad that it was to much to even bother writing about it.
Lord Skid 425 Posted September 9, 2016 Would have made a great match report, both Teams could have listed how much they owe, then see who was the Winner.

remembertheracers 171 Posted September 9, 2016 Allegedly both Leicester and Belle Vue have a pile of debt. King's Lynn and Lakeside crowds must be poor. Coventry have a one year reprieve. Will Gaming International really build a new stadium or yet wriggle out of it at Swindon? The Sky contract does stipulate 8 teams minimum. Teams like Glasgow, Sheffield, Ipswich and Peterborough would be crazy to move into the EL. Mystic Meg - please advise!
The Observer 55 Posted September 10, 2016 . Yes I agree the track is poor but so is lakeside but Sky keep returning there several times a season. . Totally agree. Lakeside's track's more of a specialist track than Leicester's and in my opinion makes for even worse viewing. Granted the very best riders quickly work it out and you get a race but for the second string & reserves it's tough going & watching.

Granted the very best riders quickly work it out and you get a race but for the second string & reserves it's tough going & watching. Absolutely disagree. Far from me to stick up for the Lakeside reack, which I don't like, but it is in a completely different class to the atrocious Leicester track. By atrocious I don't mean by the way it is prepared, but the shape of the track which means the race is over by the second bend. I have been to Leicester 4 times now, and there won't be a fifth whilst that track is in situ. It's a waste of £17 to watch 4-5 seconds of racing per heat. A drag race to the first bend. The thought that when the riders start to head down the back straight of the first lap, the rest of the race is meaningless bar the rare engine failure or fall. Whether or not the club has no money, the one thing that will get fans through the door is the knowledge that they will be entertained with quality racing. The track just does not allow that to happen. The track alterations over the last winter do not seemed to have solved the issue either. If a new promotion is coming in and taking over the running of the speedway, it must be their priority to alter the track shape before the start of next season. If the new tenant does it Helmsley can't say no as it won't cost him. Speculate to accumulate.
