steve roberts 9,246 Posted June 4, 2016 (edited) Have seen a few riders when the bikes pack up or the rider is having issues with the bike pull out of the race and ride, slowly, across the grass to park up near the pit gate Sounds sensible to me. Rather than remain on the track far better that the bike be removed to the relative safety of the centre green (as was always the case) than leave it parked somewhere on the track. Like any legislation common sense needs to prevail. Edited June 4, 2016 by steve roberts
Mad Potter 2 109 Posted June 26, 2016 Ok, the rule is new for this season, the rule is that riders are no longer allowed to "cut across" the centre green as a short cut to the tapes, or I would imagine, cutting across the centre green to get back to the pits or any other location on the track during the meeting.. It had been introduced to prevent injury to track staff, medics, presenters, VIPS, or any other people who might be on the centre green during racing. It also will prevent riders getting tangled up in spare tapes, audio/visual cables, track tools such as rakes/flags/gates/etc... The 2 minute rule has also been modified to take the above into account as well...... At Stoke last night Lee Payne went clockwise round the track before the start of a race & went onto the centre green to get around the tapes. Margaret Vardy excluded him, but then let him go of 15mts.

Shale Searcher 1,264 Posted June 27, 2016 She didn't change her mind. She was correct. Payne went clockwise and found himself on the wrong side of the tapes with the two minutes fast running out. If he'd started heading anti-clockwise he'd have been OK as he was on the track heading towards the gate in the direction of racing. But he chose to ride around the starting gate, which is technically riding on the centre green, and was rightly disqualified. He could have gone under the tapes, or over them as well... No offences committed in those routes..
SCB 0 Posted June 27, 2016 He could have gone under the tapes, or over them as well... No offences committed in those routes.. Exactly that. Already said if I was a rider Id roll up to the tapes, call over the start marshal ans if he didn't move the tapes I'd ride over them. But would that be delaying the start? He should have got off his bike and walked it round the start gate then got on it again, no offence committed.
