  1. Morning all, I’m happy to report that the track is absolutely fine after last night. We had no rain on Wednesday which left the track dry yesterday. The track was packed hard yesterday afternoon so it would take the rain forecast overnight. We have some rain forecast this afternoon, but this evening should be dry and we don’t anticipate any problems with our meeting going ahead. Racing conditions should be excellent and will make for a superb Semi-Final. We have opened up the back straight for additional viewing facilities and we have a 2nd paramedic booked, so the meeting should run smoothly. Hope to see plenty of you there this evening! 3. Good idea. Take all the teams still remaining in the play offs and go with the team that finished highest in the league. Excellent idea.

  7. Sorry you are asking the impossible now. Any old memory cells have long been pushed out to accommodate new information like why did I just go out to the garage or upstairs. The only match that has stuck in my memory is the Middlesbrough one (spelt correctly this time) when they refused to ride and Long Eaton won 75-zero. Oh...and another one when Ove Fundin and his wife were guests of honour. Beautiful sunny June evening but the track had been over watered and the match cancelled. Can't remember who the opponents were.

  11. When will the BSPA learn, playoffs should start at beginning of September, and finished by end of September. Fixture scheduling is terrible, there is not that many fixtures and some teams go weeks without a home meeting. Also if a meeting is rained off earlier in season it should be re-arranged within 2 weeks not just sticking it on the end of the fixtures.

  14. Cost of reasonable industrial strength tarpaulin with eyelets and fastening clips in suffient volume (say 80000m2) to fully cover a track would be circa £17500. Putting aside the length of time it would take for a team (of volunteers?) to erect and then take down and where such a large and weighty mass would be stored, it is questionable if such cost is justifiable v value of saving meetings from being rained off particularly since the cover would need to be fully removed a good number of hours before the meeting to allow for track preperation which would leave it open to the elements anyway.

  15. Currently blue skies over the track. Just been down and it's looking in top shape, still quite firm! If the forecast is correct and we get no more rain then it should be a terrific meeting!

  17. Surely this has to add fire to the case that league fixtures and play offs should be done first, then KO cup etc to be run at the end of the season? The risks that a league champion isn't decided is just daft. That said all the best to two strong sides, i hope the score is close over both legs and its won by the best team and not a contentious decision.

  20. The standard of riders in the PL has dropped year on year for many years. Generally, the average of riders returning after being absent for a number of years should be increased, not reduced because their average was attained when the standard was higher. However, as I have said many times, the most sensible way is to give them an average based on their average in whichever foreign league(s) they have most recently ridden. It would be easy to devise a formula to convert averages for each foreign league to an assessed PL average. That would, overnight, do away with those who come here when relatively inexperienced, don't ride here for a few years, improve significantly and then return on their original low average and cater for those who have not ridden here for a few years but are on a downward spiral in the twilight of their careers and realistically, wouldn't achieve their past PL average.

  21. I can safely predict that this will be the most important AGM for years and that major changes are needed to ensure speedways survival..... Then on the Monday we'll find out nothing has changed and that the same crap will continue and be allowed to ruin this sport further still. That's until the AGM of 2020 which will again be the most important one ever.

I expect many are waiting and hoping that the Tories will come up with another scheme like "help to buy" that will push house prices up even further, or they are hoping for a post Brexit/non-Brexit bubble to come along eventually, not to mention the value of the land increasing whilst its stagnant.

  32. It's not simply about the wet weather though is it? It's also much colder in the evenings in October which affects crowd levels and track preparation, clubs are always moaning about the precarious state of their finances so surely it makes sense to run the meetings during the optimum months for the sport? As for those that don't like their season finishing in August.....is the sport as a whole supposed to suffer to accommodate their wants? given the average attendance at most clubs, how many people genuinely feel like that? a dozen at each club? I attend every match at Swindon and whilst i'd be disappointed if our season finished at the end of August, I'd gladly take that to see the sport run in a more professional manner where the greater good of the sport is the main concern and not the wants of a few hundred people up and down the country, too often this sport has pandered to the few over the years and look at the state it is in. There were 12 home league matches in the PL and even less in the CL, do people really want that strung out over 7 months? are people really going to complain about the season being 5 months instead? surely people can find other entertainment in the off season? for those that want to watch more speedway how about attending fixtures at other clubs or attending the away matches featuring your own club? There's bound to be a few that do that already and attend 60+ matches a season but I can't believe a majority favour Speedway in October.

  33. Like your beloved Newcastle do? Even they have to appeal for help to assist the junior riders to remove covers before and after meetings and the juniors were told if they didn't help they wouldn't get a ride. Your asking for a minimum of six/eight able bodied ( not old folk as it will be heavy work) people who have time during the day ( assuming they don't work ) to graft for a couple of hours in the wet shale for no pay ( possibly free entry ?) in the hope of getting a meeting on , if it stops raining? When that doesn't work you will be saying its unprofessional and they should have cricket style covers, and it will go on and on and on. The sport has trundled along for nearly a hundred years without covers and whilst the theory of covers is good, in practice it just hasn't worked to a level to justify the outlay and effort.

  35. As MPT is not Redcar’s No 1, any guest bookings will be bound by the 8-day rule, in addition to rider averages. Richard Lawson can only guest for MPT at home, and Lawson would not be able to cover on two consecutive Fridays.

  36. Scorpions 2020 ? here's my take on it Auty will unquestionably be the first name on sheet but not for me !. I just cannot see Josh making any further progress with his racing at Scunthorpe. Just look at Ryan Douglas as a classic example; he has developed into a bone fide Premier League rider scoring an 18point maximum recently !. I would contend he would not have achieved all he has this season; grown as a rider without leaving Scunny . As harsh as that sounds ?; and for me Auty needs to do the same to get away from being a one track rider. It is controversial; probably will not go down well but it has to be in his best interests. Regretfully I reckon Jake could be looking elsewhere in 2020. My own opinion is that the two leagues should merge at least in the short term and if so then I would think he will favour a full time switch to Ipswich ? Garrity again; not for me can be thrilling to watch but equally frustrating caught up sometimes in racing situations with lesser riders at the back when he should be dominating heats. Too inconsistent. Steffan Nielsen; probably again needs a change of surroundings; really out of luck injury wise and although as has been said his current average might be attractive it may be best for us all to move on ? Ryan Kinsley has done a great job sticking to his task and coming up with a competent first full year of Championship racing. Really competitive and improving all the time. But I cannot see us bringing in Jordan Palin and keeping Ryan. We will surely need an experienced rider at reserve with JP to support him in the first stages at least ? First name for me would be Danny Ayres without any question the Rider of the Year in the Championship. We appear committed to Palin so that's two. I would definitely have a focused Ben Barker back who has the experience and ability to score well home and away. Something we have always missed. So too Simon Lambert who proved a superb bit of late season business and could be the one to back up Jordan Palin in the reserve berth. I would 1000% ! have Ryan Douglas back but alas he has gone beyond us in the two league structure. In a combined league is may be a possibility ?; but in the present structure I would see it as a potential step backwards to return after such a brilliant season with Leicester. So I think we have to accept it and wish Ryan well as he climbs the ladder. So as it stands for me; we need three riders in the current league set up. But some serious discussions need to take place before rubber stamping a another season like this one ?. Way too many gaps in the fixture list; way too many riders moving around the tracks; no team identity; little variation in the fixture card. Need I go on. i am not going to go into reams about how British Speedway needs fixing - it does ! I have two words for British Speedways power brokers at the next Annual "knees down" - BE BRAVE !.

  37. I think Ipswich done very well to make the play offs when Harris was number one for the vast majority of the season.........shows how well the team was built in my opinion Harris rides Poole well so on a low average it makes sense. And no thanks to two flaky aussies from Poole................

  38. probably plenty of head scratching going on as to how this can be called off !! Which forum member can come up with the most original reason ?? I believe several essential members required to run a meeting at poole are part of the local lifeboat crew and matt sends up a flare at lunchtime for them to attend an emergency in the english channel and they cant get back in time to run the meeting !!

  43. The system you suggest for riders with established averages in Europe is or certainly was already in place. I think it was Peter Oakes who produced the list that BSPA agreed to. As far as historic GSA’s are concerned, anyone with an average from more than two seasons back should be reassessed using the same method as for those coming to UK for the first time. For 2020, that would mean a UK average from 2019 or 2018. Chris Holder or Tai Woffinden, for example, would be caught by this as would the likes of Mikkel Michelsen or Leon Madsen.

  47. No disrespect but Poles are highly unlikely to tune in to Eurosports possible UK coverage in great numbers given the amount of top level Speedway they get bombarded with each week, so I don't see how Polish companies will see a positive brand message for themselves by attaching their businesses to UK Speedway.. Bomber Harris v Charles Wright (for example) might mean something to us British fans but won't I would suggest inspire too many Poles to look in on match night.. I would think that Eurosports coverage in Poland would get a similar following like the saturated football coverage does over here for non league football.. eg Torquay v Chorley will get watched as you flick through for a while if nothing else is on, but not many other than the fans of those two teams will watch the whole match with any degree of interest as non league football is dwarfed by the Premiership and Champions League saturation.. And, as quoted often, the scheduling and production of Eurosport is often a shambles at times..
