I hope I do after being a fan for coming up 50 years and directly involved in two bids to revive Rye House. Sadly last year's wasn't successful. I leave it to others to make silly speculations. I don't hide behind a false name so I put what remains of my reputation behind what I post ;-) If what I post is wrong then I am misinformed. It happens, but what I post is what I genuinely know is true, or is an honest deduction from what's in the public domain. It's interesting to see the debt has been raised to Jolly when I was assured that the bid I was briefly involved in last year that the BSPA were happy to receive an application without any requirement to pay others' debts. It's funny., if a business goes bust and another takes over its operations it normally has no liability for the previous business's debts. If this was a case of BMR walking away from their debts only to form a 'phoenix' company to carry on, debtless I could understand but not when it's a new business. I wonder if the BSPA simply use it to deter applications that they don't like the look of? I expect there to be a queue to promote there IF, and IF the kart business rebuild the place rather than just demolish it. Forget BMR. There is nothing that can be done to rewrite history this time and speedway has to move on. Soon we could see a modern stadium, available to stage speedway, within easy access of millions of people including the nation's capital with good road access, to Hoddesdon at least and a direct frequent rail service to central London. Isn't that exactly what the sport in London is crying out for? It would be insane to block it over debts that no sensible business would accept responsibility for? I can't see speedway ever recovering BMR's debt, yet who really is being punished here? Certainly not BMR. Prospective promtions, yes. But in the twisted short-sightedness of speedway there is one apparently forgoten group that suffers the most. THE FANS. Speedway owes those people, not just of Rye House but all of the lost London area tracks one last place to enjoy their sport. Until someone wins Euromillions, there is only one place. Rye House.6 points

Seems down the years Harringay was a rather lively sporting venue to put it mildly In 1936 they hosted local London rivals Hackney Wick and what one paper described as 'scenes unparalleled in the history of Speedway racing occurred' after the visitors defeated Harringay 38-34. The Australian international captain of 'hackneywack' !!! accompanied by his wife and other hackney riders, plus Fred Whitehead, managing director of the club were departing after the meeting when a shouting crowd of around 2,000 men and women assaulted them, repeatedly striking Case and others. Mrs Case was roughly handled and had her dress torn Half a dozen Harringay officials tried to intervene to no avail and Case's motor car was wrecked, the tyres slashed, windows and lights broken and they even tried to overturn the car !! 'Hackneyites amid a fusillade of brickbats and other missiles reached the garage when their supporters rushed to the rescue and a fight developed.Traffic was held up and the police intervened' The trouble was attributed to Case, following an incident in heat 7 when he fell whilst in the lead and caused all following riders to crash. Harringay's Norman Parker was injured and couldn't continue in the meeting Results Harringay 34 J.Parker 3,3,2,3 B.Pitcher 1,2,1,1 J.Ormston 2,2,2,2 D.Smythe 0,N,1,1 N.Parker 1,1,N,N L.Wooton 0,2,F,3 B.Lovell 0,1,0 Hackney Wick 38 D.Case 2,3,3,0 B.Hansen 0,1,2,2 M.Hansen 3,3,3,2 B.Clibett 1,0,N,0 C.Milne 3,0,XS,1 G.Wilks 2,1,3,3 S.Dell 0 That wasn't to be the last trouble at a speedway meeting at the track, as in 1938 when New Cross came to visit apparently 2,000(the same mob as two years ago !!) demanded their money back after the meeting was stopped. When they got nothing, they broke onto the track smashing and damaging parts of the stadium and set fire to the tractor !! According to wikepedia similar scenes were also witnessed at a couple of Greyhound meetings3 points

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening with Nicki Pedersen comes across as a nice bloke off track. I think everybody there can’t wait for the season to start now. Told some good stories and said he can’t wait to get started. Well done Nicki and thanks for giving your time up to come across from Denmark to meet the fans.2 points

Devalues the cup, always thought it was the second best thing to win after the league, if it's so obviously manipuated from word go, who's to say the final might have been Poole vs Eastbourne if the draw was a proper draw and left alone, so whoever wins they may not have done if left unmanipulated.2 points

I now wonder if Gino is an option, he has confirmed he has a visa and can come over this season now - would arrive on a 4.002 points

Seems strange, when, as someone else has said, when trying to drive off Kings Lynn's car park you are surrounded by pedestrians walking out of the same exit2 points

As long as they put Speedway on and plenty of it i will be happy Any thing rather than having Football shoved down your throat 24/72 points

I agree entirely but surely the problem here is that that's what Peterborough's disabled fans were trying to do that and have been for the last 20 years that I can recall. The club has always been supportive of their position and fought the EoES on occasions when it's them who have restricted disabled access. We are led to believe that the EoES have no objection to the former longstanding arrangements and it's the current club management who are allegedly not helping their disabled fans easily live their life, given that they already have a daily struggle, by removing the facility under questionable reasoning. Personally I don't think that's unimportant or a pointless waste of time trying to get common sense resumed and it's not a particularly good example of "what sort of things did you do for your 50th anniversary"?2 points

The club has gone from one of the worst for information to probably the best in the couple of yrs ian jordans been there, a family run club in every way, always clear concise reasoning too.2 points

Thanks I wasn't being sarcy, just for once some might say. I know the routes to local hospitals only too well, on behalf of msyelf and others, spent too much time in waiting & treatment rooms and really hope I've attended more funerals recently than most posters; 7 in the last 2 years. Ok put the tiny violins away I'm way done feeling sorry for myself, I was just pointing out that life is to be lived if possible and hopefully enjoyed (like by going to speedway), and that arguing over relativesly unimporrtant things, is a pointless waste of time. So, speedway then a new season will start soon, looking forward to it as always and seeing was much on-track action, on TV and ideally live, as I can .....2 points

It's too early to be sure of course but many of the pre-season friendlies from Leszno are streamed online for free. So fingers crossed the Swindon one will also be available!1 point

To be fair, with the sport allowing all riders to ride on an adhoc basis for any team, at any given moment, the changing of a draw won't devalue any competition too much.. Given the low level of kudos, publicity and financial reward in winning any Speedway title, saving money on travel whilst facilitating more 'local' derbies, which may produce larger crowds than riding against a team from hundreds of miles away, seems to be a sensible decision...1 point

Common sense maybe Richard, but who's to say the final may have been Poole vs Eastbourne? Devalues the competition in my eyes, always thought it was the next best to win after the league, not so sure now.1 point

There isn't really a story in print, just removal of long standing club policy for 2020 with reasons that allegedly no longer stack up according to the EoES bosses whereas the club bosses who seemingly made the decision off their own back remain silent.1 point

Completely agree. His approach to everything has always been elbows up, you get out of my way and that doesn’t work with the bspa. What him and his wife wrote on Facebook last year said he was done with speedway?1 point

Shame they couldn't come up with a double header against Leicester that day away at Leicester start 12pm and back at PB at 7.30 pm would have been a good turn out at the turnstiles and local ish derby even tho some punters work on good Friday D1 point

Chris Louis, normally, gets the rules right so it could be that the reporter did not understand his reply. Transfers can only be made AFTER 25% of league meetings & before the 75% of meetings which means that the transfer window is between meetings 7 to 17 inclusive in which 2 riders can be changed. If a rider is injured outside of this parameter, I would expect r/r or guest facilities to be used.1 point

Where did this news come from ? I have seen nothing anywhere to suggest that Rye House is on the way back. Rob Cafferey ( ??) did post a bit of news about it on here some time ago, but nothing new lately and he seemed to know what he was talking about...unlike many others on this forum..1 point

Good to see Newcastle Doing this the right way by announcing riders before things get started and not just picking a random 7 whose doing the best like Cradley and others did when they just entered the National Trophy1 point

I respect your support for all things Poole - but you need to accept other opinions before you respond. Just talk (or don’t) rather than force yours so aggressively. You should be positive after what you have been through.1 point

What a poor post riders at risk what are you talking about ??? It might be to soon for him he might not yet be good anough but as a rider he has a superb riding style and he is a down to earth level headed lad. Also in the Championship if he can score two or three points he has done his job it is whether he can learn and keep on improving. Why do SOME??? knock youngsters young Rowe at Swindon another one he will find it dreadfully hard at times but we need to encourage not knock.1 point

Wouldn't really be a fair cup then. Regionalisation in the league is enough I'd have said. Glasgow and Edinburgh are likely to meet at least 6 times. 3 home, 3 away. 4 of those in the league, 2 in the Scottish cup1 point

Not sure what you mean by link. The info was revealed on Panthers official site under " get your season ticket" there was a sub section headed disabled parking within the ground "click here" which reveals that they will not be able to park within the ground they imply and I know for a fact that they have told people verbally that it was down to the showground. Jason Lunn at Showground has e mailed me to say it was not of their doing and parking is totally down to Speedway. Since then Speedway bosses have maintained a deathly silence and declined to respond to E Mails0 points

There was, it seems the threat of a riders strike at the last meeting to be staged at the Hall Green track in Birmingham, in October 1938, when the match between Birmingham and Sheffield was subject to a lengthy delay when the Birmingham riders confronted the promoter Arthur Westwood about unpaid wages. Apparently, Westwood, on the pretex of going out of the stadium to collect his cheque book from his car, decided to do a runner and drove off. The dispute was then left to the stadium manager A.H.Marriott to try and resolve which he did by going to each turnstile in turn, collecting the proceeds and giving this to one of the 8 Birmingham riders in turn as lieu of their unpaid wages, and after a very lengthy hold up, the meeting did finally get underway. After the meeting, Mr Marriott (who was a greyhound man and who had no connection with the speedway operation) took it on himself to take the microphone and tell the crowd that despite the prospect of a court action by local Hall Green residents, there would "definitely" be speedway at the stadium in 1939 - a prediction which failed to materialise with the venue never staging speedway again.0 points

As a follow up, acouple of days later, Grosskreutz's motorcycle suppliers wanted to celebrate the Golden helmet win and new track record with a rather unfortunate advert. A drawing of a bike and underneath in big bold letters... 76 Dead0 points
