  1. Update on former Berwick rider Connor Coles posted on social media today. Lovely news from Kirsty Coles about Connor A little update on Connor Connor has now been transferred from Stoke to Derby and has officially started neurological rehabilitation in a specialist centre. Although there is still a long recovery journey ahead, this week has brought some really positive steps forward. Connor is becoming much more aware and engaged, communicating more, remembering conversations and slowly getting more like himself each day. He is now eating food orally again with thickened drinks, has started rehab exercises including the exercise bike, and is walking short distances with support and a frame. Seeing these small milestones after everything he has been through has meant so much to us all. There are still many challenges ahead with speech, swallowing, fatigue and weakness down his left side, and recovery will take time, but we finally feel like Connor is taking important steps in the right direction. Thank you again to everyone for all the continued love, support, messages and kindness shown to Connor and our family

There is NO friction/tension/bad feeling or animosity between Jody and Cooper or our families......They are mates and we have known each other for several years......

  4. I don't care. I want to read about and comment on Speedway, that is the raison d'etre of this Forum. What I don't want to read is the pathetic ramblings of our scammer and all his other aliases on here. Sorry, that is just how I feel. I'm sure I'm not alone. If I want such childish remarks, I will watch children's TV.

  6. Hi all, I hope this is okay to post as a comment in here. I know many of you may have known my father as Jenga / j20hh. He sadly passed away recently after battling with various illnesses the last couple of months, but I know he was fairly active on here, and I thought it would be fitting to log into this account to announce it. I'm aware he was a bit of a marmite character on these forums, but he was on here exactly how he was in real life, a windup merchant with bad grammar. It's been fascinating to look back through his posts and comments, and more so the replies from other people. I can only apologise if he aggravated any of you with his comments, but know that they've brought a grieving son a great deal of joy, to have an online archive of my Dad just trying his best to wind people up over a sport he loved. Speedway and Workington Comets were a huge part of my Dad's life, and a huge part of my childhood, I'm sure I'll have to get down to Northside to honour his memory soon. If any of you happened to know him in real life, I'd be more than happy to pass on funeral details over a PM. Thanks

  7. Andrew Chisholm is in charge of the day to day running of the club, not Coleman who has his hands full elsewhere. Chisholm and Hurry put the team together, and decide on team matters, that was confirmed before the season started. I’m not quite getting this overreaction either. It’s all explained in yesterday’s article. They planned to use Kennett while the uncertainty around Bangs continued. They were less than impressed when a scheduled practice session after Thursdays meeting didn’t materialise when Kennett didn’t bother turning up so quite rightly binned the idea. They then booked Mulford as a guest for Thursdays meeting under the impression that Bangs would still be unavailable. That changed literally yesterday when Bangs himself is quoted as saying he only received the paperwork from Doctors to resume racing yesterday I have been working really, really hard to get some papers from the doctors to allow me to get started as soon as possible. I got that today, and now I am ready.” What have they actually done wrong here? I agree it’s an unusual set of circumstances, but circumstance it is. People are being overly critical and typical of this forum, overreacting to trivial matters.

  10. Ian he was 16 with 1 years experience in the sport! What about the 15 point maximum at Redcar? 13 points Glasgow? It’s people like YOU that completely ruins our sport for the young guns. He’s beat Jason Doyle while Jason was leading the GP if I remember rightly!? Chris holder, bomber, majic , Lawson and plenty more!!! he was 16/17 with no previous experience in speedway but still people like you didn’t give him a proper chance other than pick on his bad days and kept quite on his good! I really hope he doesn’t return to speedway as I’ve followed him from a young age and the talent he has on two wheels is outstanding. Speedway is 50% bike set up and 50% rider ability and with his lack of experience I am sure his bike was set up incorrectly a lot of the time. He was one of the best mx riders in the world for his age where his talent on a bike was shown by his ability. He can now do the same with flattrack as it’s not the bike set up that wins races it’s the rider riding it.

  16. I went to Thursday nights meeting with my son and I would estimate the attendance at around 2,000. There were quite a few Leicester fans there but we were pleased to see a large Northampton support. The noise and enthusiasm of the home fans on gaining their first win was impressive and infectious! We were very impressed with the facilities and the general organisation at the stadium. After many years in the Speedway wilderness, I have finally found a local team that I can support. We can’t wait for the next meeting. At last, is there a chink of light for the future of our great sport🤞🤞

  17. He shouldn't have turned left, you can see in the excellent video analysis that @Dave_minall posted he literally turns his front wheel to the left at the 14 second mark... you can't show those that don't want to see 🙈

  18. Watching the incident over & over & for me (unpopular opinion clearly) the referee made the right call. Rushen overshooting the corner a little & just tries to get his wheels in line quicker to regain speed to hold position. At no point through the whole move is he moving left down the straight. The view from behind is very very clear on that. For me, Harrison had enough time & room to see what was happening in front of him but failed to adjust to the situation.

Miracle recovery from Nicolai Klindt today in Rybnik racing to an unbeaten, 5 ride, full, 15 point maximum, must have flown over Lourdes on his way ✝️ Pulling moves like Michael Jackson while digging his start positions out at the gate with seemingly no ill effects from his knee injury 👍🏻 Must be a relief for all of the Bears' fans. 🐻🍵🍵

  22. This isn’t on the paying punter. It’s all on whoever signed him. I’m a bandits supporter and as sceptical as we all were most gave Cook the chance last year and actively supported him. I hold absolutely no ill feeling towards him as a person. He simply should not have been given a team place. The gym, motocross and his push bike seam to do his mental wellness the work of good. Speedway however just isn’t working for him anymore.

  24. I'm partial to a jokey post myself now and again and I could quite happily scroll on by and not interact with any posts from any individual user I didn't want to interact with... but, when you have a single user quite clearly using different accounts @Whitelinehugger @rearingtogo @TapesRup @Youhave2minutes and they're replying to their own posts and literally flooding every damn topic on the forum! That is something quite different. There are clear forum guidelines and this fellow is in breach of them: "Trolls A troll is a contributor whose sole intent in posting is to be a disturbance to the community. Trolls may post excessively inflammatory or offensive messages with the intention of upsetting people, "flame" or insult, crash an appreciation thread to attack the subject being appreciated, or post the same message repeatedly on multiple boards to take up space and disrupt the forums. Posters engaging in this type of behaviour lose their rights of membership and will be removed." Sadly there is no moderator to enforce these forum rules. I've "ignored" all of those accounts now, which is a shame as occasionally they did post something worthy of discussion.

  26. I’m afraid I would not entertain them in Uk in that case. They are helping to send the sport into obscurity with their attitude. Speedway is hardly a no risk sport.Wait till this situation arises at Northampton and see how the newcomers to the sport react.

  27. The most positive news so far has come out today. Very good news arrived from the Poznań hospital on Friday morning. The process of waking Patryk Budniak from a medically induced coma has been completed. The Ultrapur Start Gniezno athlete is responsive to contact and responds with simple phrases. He faces further tests. 09:29 After a gruesome accident in Gniezno, Patryk Budniak underwent two very serious surgeries. The first involved his spine, and the second involved his lower limbs. On Thursday, the process of recovering from a medically induced coma began. On Friday morning, we received excellent news from the hospital. As we've determined, the recovery process is complete. The speedway rider responds with simple words. 09:30 The patient has been awoken from a medically induced coma. He is communicating with others. He responds with simple phrases. Remember, he was intubated, so he's communicating as best he can. He's still undergoing diagnostic testing, Zuzanna Pankros, spokesperson for the Poznań hospital, told us. "Regarding sensation, it has returned, but it's too early to say whether the patient will regain full mobility. A number of tests are necessary to determine this. The most important thing is that the recovery process has been completed and the patient is breathing on his own. His condition is not life-threatening. He's a young, strong boy. You can see he has the will to fight," adds our interviewee. 09:31

  29. Latest update, which is positive: We have the first, still cautiously positive, news regarding Patryk Budniak's health. Our athlete is gradually emerging from a medically induced coma and responding to contact with loved ones. The first signs of feeling in his legs have also appeared, which gives hope in his continued fight for health. Patryk remains under the constant care of doctors, and we will provide further updates as they become available. Thank you for the overwhelming support for Patryk and his family.

  30. Take your kings Lynn hat off mate I for one am not castigating Cooper … I believe he meant to go a bit left and when he did coupled with the looking behind him he went further over than he thought My youngest daughter now 17 did roller speed skating and was a multi british champion …. One of her very first outdoor races at the age of 6 she was coming down the final straight and looked behind to see her fast finishing rival … the looking made her veer to the left … her skill set at that stage meant she drifted …. She was pulled in front of the officials and given a warning and rightly so although her mum thought the officials harsh I believed they were correct … age is not a factor and should not be taken into account Cooper got this wrong and I don’t believe maliciously …. The fact he is the best youngster we have and is showing outstanding form doesn’t come into it … I’m sure those around him will have had a word and I expect cooper himself will see the reaction (some of which is way over the top) and learn from it Many many ex riders have all said Cooper was at fault ranging from Steachmann, Silver , Stonehewer .. down to the likes of James Brundle…… I’m inclined to go with ex riders opinion rather than a fan who can be biased to his or her club Cooper clearly at fault … not malicious or dirty and hopefully he has took it all on board

  31. But he is going to look, he made an error off the bend so checked everyone else's position, it's normal with every rider who makes an error. Absolutely normal to do. At the point of Rushen looking back, Harrison was far enough behind to see Rushen's corrective manoeuvres. For me, the incident only arises because Harrison isn’t aware of his surroundings. Rushen doesn't & never did turn left down the straight. The only decision the referee had on offer was excluding Harrison.

  32. Does anyone else think it's crazy that Northampton are not being granted a full facility for the missing NKI...? It's not their fault that he's injured and it's not their fault that he's being advised not to fly because of his injury... Surely this is a perfect example of where the infamous "In the best interests of the Sport" rule should be applied... We have a new track starting from scratch, trying to attract and retain new fans... but in a sport that prides itself on having No Brakes...they are being asked to operate with an artificial hand brake applied... Seems ridiculous!!!!

  35. 70's racing was no better, nor worse than today's, for me.. What made it stand out was the crowd sizes thus, the atmosphere got created that made you return.. BV's Yorkshire rivals would bring a good few coaches with them ran by their supporters clubs, whiich had several thousand members, meaning an "electric atmosphere"... Almost 20 teams in the league meant there actually looked like something worth winning, and the vast majority of riders were yours and no one elses, (apart from young UK lads being allowed to double up for development, rather than due to a lack of riders, or tier two clubs wanting to use tier one riders at a reduced rate).. Teams rode on their best nights for attendances, and the admission costs took up a far lower percentage of your disposable income after your bills are paid, than it does today.. And Guests were the exception, rather than the rule... The Superstars were on TV most Saturdays, and also crossed over into mainstream non sporting programming... The top lads rode massive averages, making them "box office" particularly away from home when you may only got to see them once... Their averages often being down to them picking the best gates, bonus points being included, a "gimme" tac sub ride against the weakest second string and reserve, and less "head to heads" than today against the oppositions top two, and, usually, especially at home, just four rides.... It was though, overall, the size of crowds that brought the atmosphere and made it "an event"... The promoters of today though still have thousands of "lapsed fans" who still closely follow the sport, but see no reason to attend UK League Speedway... A huge opportunity should the promoters ever one day decide to get these thousands of fans re-engaged with their version of the sport...

  36. My favourite era was the 70s. Crowds were big and the atmosphere due to the big crowds was incredible, even for run-of-the-mill, very ordinary, bottom of the table matches. The racing is far better now than in was then. But today's racing in front of 800 people just can't match the atmosphere of a league meeting in front of 8,000.

  38. Slick on the inside, heavy on the outside... A perfect track for racing... Those who cannot handle the "deep stuff" can ride the slick inside and those who are more brave, can take those risks and ride the faster dirt line up against the fence ... How Speedway should be...

  40. Really? They stopped giving wildcards to riders because of their nationality ahead of their ability, looks the strongest field since the Russians were banned to me. Not sure why people are saying it's virtually over after one round, Zmarzlik will always be favourite, but it's not like he's miles in front, he's not even leading the series yet.

  43. There are many reasons but for me, it's the constant search for speed, more speed, even greater speed than the last. Speedway globally should go for an engine reset & go down the standardised 'sealed units' route. Get rid of expensive 3rd party parts tuners.

  50. Whilst I agree with some of the comments highlighting the financial implications of screening these meetings and the fact that clearly Mayfield Sports can't afford, or don't want to spend the necessary sums to show them, there are in my opinion some anomalies in all of this, and indeed in the way the whole series has been promoted over the past few years. Firstly let's examine WBD, who proclaimed endlessly we were entering a "new era" of speedway. This crowd then gave control of the whole thing to a bunch of people who had very little, if any, knowledge of the sport. Incredibly they created a rolling package whereby considerably more than 100 people (honestly!) were transported around Europe for each SGP. The costs of this must have been enormous! Not only that, but they then tried to "Formula 1ise" the world championship by creating the most ridiculous system of running in front of empty stadiums for what was essentially practice, and made it even more ridiculous by then dishing out world championship points to the riders who got to the final 4 man race of the practice, again in front of empty stadiums. You couldn't make this utter nonsense up!! As if that wasn't enough they introduced drones and steadfastly refused to change this introduction when many fans complained bitterly that it interfered with their TV viewing. TV viewing that was proving to be costly and expensive. Their 10 year master plan quickly fell apart and they panicked and pressed the eject button to escape at the half way stage through their get-out clause. But before we leave them, let's not forget that they also made the whole series harder than ever to access, with difficult to find channels and live events hidden away in expensive pay per view places. It was an unknown-to-speedway fans company that out of the blue stepped in. Mayfield Sports. Most of us had no idea who they actually were. Now, we are only two SGPs in, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt as to what we are going to experience as we go forward. But the early signs as we have seen are slightly alarming. I was pleased to see the drones had gone. Firstly I imagined that was a decision based on customer feedback but now I suspect it's financially based and is a cost cutter. The fact that many SGP events are now 2 day events with meetings the day before suggests another attempt to close down the costs . Nothing actually wrong with that and actually it's sensible when you think about it. But, here's where it begins to unravel. This ditching of the screening of SoN2, SGP2 and SGP3 came out of nowhere and has, understandably, left lots of people unhappy. And it seems clear that Mayfield had no intention of telling folk beforehand. Until they were forced to. That's not good business sense. There's also been the reduction in prize money for the riders, which did come out pre season. So it seems we are now looking at a shoestring production, at least compared to previously. Richard Coleman claims he needs to get the SGP series itself right first, which is commendable, but let's put our hands on our hearts and ask ourselves seriously if you believe he will later extend things to what they were previously? And here's where I want to ask the question. Why didn't the FIM think about giving the whole series to Poland to promote? I'm pretty sure OneSport, organisers of the SEC series, have previously wanted to take it on, but were rejected. I have to ask the question, why? Poland leads everything in speedway. It's professional in every way at a level that no other country can match. Its weekly televised productions from Canal Sport and previously Eleven Sports are beautifully put together events that run to time, are superbly slick and professional and clearly there is a large pot of money to do things the way they should be done. Now, I completely understand that perhaps no Polish company came forward to promote, but I have to ask, were they actually asked? And if not, why not? To hell with FIM prejudices against the Poles, which clearly exist as Poland has long complained bitterly that they have to fork out more than other nations to stage SGP rounds. The FIM should, in my opinion, be begging OneSport or any other Polish TV company that will, to take this series by the scruff of the neck and promote it PROPERLY. Speedway is in a mess. Everyone knows that. Even Polish promoters and owners of clubs I've spoken with over the past couple of years are worried that their product is attracting less young people than previously. But, if we want to see our beloved sport, the sport where racing can be utterly spectacular and beautiful, be able to succeed, we have to market and promote it properly. And that includes promoting and televising the youngest and younger racers at world level too. If Mayfield Sports don't have the will, or the money to do that properly they should either change their business plan, or get out quick and be replaced by a company from Poland that can do it properly. It's the only way I see our world championship events remaining a serious TV proposition.
