The Wightlink Warriors Shale Track Racing Club have announced their NORA Motorsport race programme for 2021 and what a bumper action-packed season it promises to be with eleven consecutive weekly meetings from late June featuring something for every shale track racing follower. Co-owner Martin Widman said, “Barry (Bishop) and I have worked really hard trying to develop what we think will be the most entertaining night out we possibly can. We have listed what we plan to run right now but we are also working to include more Formula 2 speedway, fun and games with the ‘Chicken Chasers’ and hopefully riders demonstrating the well-established Flat Track racing discipline. Spectators can be sure that every night will be packed with family entertainment from start to finish. We will be unveiling our Warrior team members shortly. They will be operating at a level slightly above the 2019 National League standard. The Warrior riders that have been chosen can’t wait to get started. Our attention now turns to the Wizards team and we fully expect to name some familiar and popular faces that we will coach, guide and provide with plenty of track time to aid with their racing technique. We also can’t wait to welcome our Smallbrook regulars as well as the many visitors from around the country who have been so encouraging and supportive of our new venture. Our media colleagues, social media platforms and website will be updated with all the breaking news as it happens and so I would ask all supporters to keep a close eye out for the latest information and as always we will be happy to hear from those with any questions via email to speedwayontheisland@yahoo.co.uk ”. We have always done relatively well from Challenge matches crowd and sponsor wise. Our view is to make them as relative as possible so by challenging clubs looking to keep their teams alive and continue to be part of shale track racing having the likes of Oxford, Cradley, Weymouth, and will I hope give the buzz of a league match, certainly all of these challenge types before have Stay safe one and all and thanks for your support in this challenging of times.3 points

Very grateful thanks to the lads at Iwade Garage who along with many supporters from rival clubs, have made generous donations to the fund set up to try to help Birmingham overcome the disgusting spate of vandalism which has taken place at Perry Barr last weekend. This is really appreciated - thank you so much. The very best of luck to your team for the forthcoming season.3 points

Hopefully a fair few of us Oxford supporters will be taking the opportunity to dig our passports out and go abroad again to see a team representing the Cheetahs, Thanks to Barry and Martin for laying on the entertainment for us.2 points

I think what they've got lined up is mega, with so much variety on offer. I know the majority of speedway fans around the country only like league racing and play-off's, and turn their backs on challenge matches. I can never really understand that, although I respect their thoughts, but at the end of the day, there are four riders on track, risking their lives to entertain us, and whatever the type of competition, it's exactly the same thing us punters are watching. So whilst I will continue to enjoy watching meetings on the mainland, I shall certainly enjoy the attractive package they are providing for their customers when I visit the island, and I wish them all the luck in the world in this forward thinking venture.1 point

A bit more information. The Oxford programme for 5th April 1956 stated the track record to be 65.4 by Ken Middleditch on 29th September 1955 (using the old tyre), with the fastest time of 1956 being 67.0, recorded on 30th March (Ron Swaine, Danny Malone and Ronnie Genz). Brian Crutcher then set the fastest time of 1956 with 66.6 on 3rd May. The track record was still attributed to Middleditch in the programme after the fastest time of the season was reduced to 65.8 by Ken McKinlay on 19th July. The programme for 20th June still showed Middleditch’s record time, together with Phil Clarke having the fastest time of 1957 with 66.6 on 13th June. Peter Craven recorded 66.4 on 20th June 1957, before Bob Roger managed 65.6 on 8th August 1957. The programme for 7th August 1958 did not mention Middleditch but showed the record as being 65.4 set by Peter Craven on 31st July. The Middleditch record was finally eclipsed on 14th August 1958 when Peter Craven won a match race with Ron How in 63.4.1 point

Was KK fault so why shouldn't he be excluded ? Too many times something happens and is classed as "1st bend bunching"1 point

Look's like you know a lot more than you're willing to say. Personally the longer we hear nothing the more I feel we may have seen the last of the Rebels which would be another nail in U.K. speedway's coffin.1 point

Speedway Star reporters aren't there to investigate though are they? They just copy and paste the press releases that the BSPZzz and the club press officers hand out to them. Rocking the boat would be more than their jobs are worth.1 point

That depends on whether those rules themselves are within the law specific to restraint of trade. The rules themselves are not law and can be subject to challenge in the courts if they are contrary to legislation. To bar a rider would effectively restrict his ability to earn money from a different employer - that, to me, is a clear restraint of trade. Its akin to a builder refusing to alliow a self employed bricklayer to work for a rival firm even though he only employs him for one day a week. If memory serves me correctly, a couple of years ago the BSPL refused to allow Scott Nicholls to ride in the Championship because the rules said his Premiership average was too high. They carried on saying no until Nicholls consulted a solicitor, when they gave in very quickly indeed. I think you rather miss the point. Every speedway promotion has the right to choose whether to employ a rider or not. What they do not have is the right to prevent him riding for an alternative employer, and that is effectively what a ban would do - and unquestionably would be the motivation behind it.1 point

So it's about time Swindon, Somerset and Poole stop messing about and say we are History.0 points
