I think Laurence is getting a lot of unfair stick....I'm sure he's doing his best. I don't see how he's to blame for the decline of the club and the situation we are in. The 'consortium' give him a budget and he has to work to that....realistically, we're not going to go from 'nearly folding half way through last season', to being able to compete with the likes of Poole/Glasgow etc..... As a 'speedway fan first and a B'ham fan second, I just want to see 'entertainment' and effort on the track! Who gives two shinny sh#tes about who's won what trophy? IF you make a final then, yes, it's nice to win it, simply because you've worked hard to get there.....but I don't lose any sleep if my team don't win.4 points

No it's Dave Rowe the commentator who is much better than Tatum - entirely different person4 points

I know that, and I paid for yesterdays pensioners, and when you retire the folk still working will pay for yours. either way we ALL pay towards pensions.3 points

Think he's better suited to commentary than doing live updates, he looks a bag of nerves doing that. I have to agree he's a better commentator than NP and KT.3 points

Taken from itv Tyne/Tees news website: "Newcastle Speedway was running three teams: the Diamonds, the Gems and the Sapphires. Since Covid, the club says it has had to drop the Gems because it couldn't afford the overheads of running three teams under the current restrictions." Full article here: https://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2021-06-29/longest-standing-speedway-club-in-the-country-forced-to-fundraise-to-make-it-through-the-season2 points

Ive always liked Mark Lemon , he was the rider who knocked Richard Hall off in ht 14 allowing the Panthers to get a 5-1 in the rerun against Reading in 2006 and then in 2021 he put Etheridge in ht 6 as R/R with Brennan against Harris & Palm Toft that turned the play off final firmly in Panthers favour , so hes had a hand in helping the Panthers to win the league title twice now ,2 points

If anyone is watching the Winter Olympics you may find yourself never complaining about Nige or Kelv again. Even curling, yes curling has suffered from commentators seeing fit to shout and scream in states of near hysteria. It seems as if we are not allowed to watch anything without commentators filling every second of time with incessant, technical babbling most of which is of no interest to anyone.1 point

Shocking thought, I know, but perhaps they wanted to PROMOTE the sport!1 point

They have some good knowledgeable Speedway people involved there and I am sure that they will not let Mr Rogers pull the wool over their eyes. Dave Rowe is a good honest guy who loves his Speedway and is master of stats of Speedway and I met Gary Drinkwater and his wife Lorraine when they were involved at Coventry. Nigel Tolley is a very astute businessman and has made himself very good money by sound investments so don’t see him getting involved at Birmingham without doing his due diligence1 point

Great News! There's another Josh Auty story on the Brummies website this weekend. Something else to tie the fans in to their favourite stars.1 point

They staged World Championship qualifying rounds? Weymouth also staged at least one open meeting in 1965.1 point

I had the chance to go to Sunderland in 1973 but my relations weren't speedway orientated! I have since passed the stadium on a couple of occasions when passing by.1 point

Failure always seems to be rewarded in the modern world as he's now being given the position of CEO as well as Director of Speedway and Team Manager. In reality he should be offered the position of Track Raker because even he couldn't screw that up. [edit] He probably could...1 point

Wonder what his nerves be like when his bank account starts draining and LR's stays the same1 point

So, do you not think the 'covid situation' put an extra strain on their financial situation?1 point
-
As you don’t seem to have taken in the reasons given at the time (?)….money ! The promotion made the financial decision not to carry on with the Gems to save losing more money.1 point

Covid helped the situation of the Gems being withdrew from the league due to lower crowd levels & restrictions being put in place ( government guidelines ) & also the fans who stayed away to protect themselves & there families from the Virus1 point

Even tho they only rode 2 meetings they never got beat.. it's a pity covid helped put pay to there withdrawal of the league as I think they would have done very well imo1 point

Was that not a benefit meeting when he was badly injured at the 4's riding for Newcastle at Peterborough ? Or it may have been something else but to my knowledge he's never had a testimonial1 point

Just reading this weeks speedway star. Lawson says some red flags were showing thats why he made decision to change his mind. Would not expand on what the red flags were. I wonder whether he got wind Ian Jordan is still in the background at the coliseum. If he is then Plymouth speedway bewarned.1 point

What bad have you heard about the app? I was watching some olympics the other day and it seemed ok1 point

But not good to see he's going to lose a lot of money while LR trys playing speedway1 point

Never mind...6 weeks to go til the opening night against the Coventry Bees team that currently features 4 less riders than the Brummies team. Might even win that one! Plenty of time for more rider announcements, the news of who the title sponsor will be and many more sponsorship announcements too. Reasons to be cheerful!1 point

Don't think so, Scottish cup/ spring trophy both disappeared few years ago thankfully. Local derbies only stay interesting of not happening 5/6 times a season. I'd much have preferred an inter league challenge like had with Coventry few years ago. Let's guys get any gremlins out plus saw riders wouldn't see again that season.1 point

The desirables from that list are either opting out of CL or UK altogether. Its not cheap to setup in the UK for Champ only, the better riders are either contractually not available (Poland) , are opting for a lesser schedule to stay fresher or simply want more than Brum can afford. As for the 4 pointers it makes far more sense to offer places to riders like Morley & Crang rather than Ruml & Keleher's on purely financial grounds. If LR has his wish list he should be making his final offers, we can afford X take it or leave it. Pandering and negotiating only further weakens the clubs position.1 point

Do we know the FULL consortium? Sounds like a consortium of 'hopefuls/fans' may be doing it for the passion of the club, but totally out of their depth ? I think we're in a bit of trouble....I obviously hope I'm wrong!1 point

For Great VFM I'd recomend the Golden Helmet weekend in Pardubice, Czech Republic. in 2022 they will host the final round of the SEC on the Friday, On Saturday there will be the FIM Flat Track GP round & their U21 Golden Helmet event followed on Sunday with The Golden Helmet. That will be around 80 speedway stars from around the World on show + the Flat Track riders all taking part in over 100 races over three days. All on the same track. If that is still not enough On the Monday night you can get to Prague for the Lubos Tomicek Memorial meeting. This will normally feature many SGP stars + some that will have ridden in the previous events in Pardubice.1 point

I feel for Laurence and the new Birmingham promoters. Their heart is clearly in the right place and it must be tough to be in this position before they have even started properly. Hopefully something comes up! I have my fingers crossed for you all.1 point

Interesting to note that one promotion that are doing that is Isle of Wight. They certainly do 1, 2, 4 and 5 (and much more besides) and I am sure Barry and Martin would be quite happy to do 3. Any yet they have opted to operate outside the BSPA and league structure.1 point

Plymouth have announced main team title sponsors for 2022 season. Westcolour, who are one of the largest mailing and fulfilment companies in the UK. The team will be known as the Plymouth Westcolour gladiators. Fantastic news and well done.1 point
