Yeah, but that's not why football was better back then. It's the quality of the footage and extra camera angles that makes watching modern sport (particularly speedway) so wonderful. The reason football was better back then is because it was played by men. No playing for penalties, diving, playing balls back to the keeper, reluctance to attack and take on defenders, and general niggly crap... I watch old matches on YouTube regularly.1 point

Well done chadster, I couldn't have answered that- I do recall them holding WCQR meetings though, and I agree with Chunky-they just wanted to promote speedway at different venues. One name of the participants stuck in my mind- Leo Ramm-does anybody recall him? Also is it true that Cowley are reopening? That would be great!! What about the Abbey Stadium will they keep going?1 point

The Boldon Stadium is still there, in great condition, but only for dogs. Sad really. A reasonable distance from housing - it could be ideal. Closed twice, once (1964) by in order to strengthen the Wolverhampton/Newcastle Teams. Second time by rank bad management of the early part of the 1974 Season. Towards the end of that season Mrs. Liz Taylor (Berwick Promoter) attempted to take over. By then it was too late - the crowds had dwindled and did not return in numbers. I will always be grateful to Mrs. Taylor for trying. Always easier to lose supporters than gain them.1 point

Ah, another one just sprang to mind! Wiggy, 1983 (Cradley), 1985, 86, and 89 (Oxford).1 point

I liked the way that Steve was thinking, but the way you worded it, i figured it was as a rider. There are several names that immediately sprang to mind, but they all had 3!1 point

For riding only, sorry. Mick Bell won 3 as a rider but doesn't make the top ten.1 point

'81 was National League when Hans Nielsen?? / Dam McCormick / CVS?? decided it was better to run Birmingham in the top division and stuff Wolves! '82 '83 Wolves were shut until the Pete Adams revival.1 point

No. It was mentioned early on with his signing that we had something like 7.5 points, and someone mentioned Lee's average would be assessed as 5.00. It sounds about right given the time he has been out, and his capability if he gets his fitness and nerve back. We will see.1 point

i thought the curling was good . never before have i been so interested in a minority sport . crowd looked bigger than a normal speedway meeting in the uk ! if you dont like the comms , turn on your mute button . long live curling and other minority sports1 point

Think he's better suited to commentary than doing live updates, he looks a bag of nerves doing that. I have to agree he's a better commentator than NP and KT.1 point

I think Laurence is getting a lot of unfair stick....I'm sure he's doing his best. I don't see how he's to blame for the decline of the club and the situation we are in. The 'consortium' give him a budget and he has to work to that....realistically, we're not going to go from 'nearly folding half way through last season', to being able to compete with the likes of Poole/Glasgow etc..... As a 'speedway fan first and a B'ham fan second, I just want to see 'entertainment' and effort on the track! Who gives two shinny sh#tes about who's won what trophy? IF you make a final then, yes, it's nice to win it, simply because you've worked hard to get there.....but I don't lose any sleep if my team don't win.1 point

Do you mean nationality-wise or ability-wise? In terms of nationality I don't know if Luke was born in England or Australia, but he'd qualify as British because his parents are British (being the son of the former Belle Vue and Wolves second-halfer Frank Killeen - known as "Fearless Frank" or "Frank the Fence" depending on how he was going at the time). In terms of ability, I don't know if riding in an Australian State Championship still allows him in the NDL on a 3.00 average. (presumably it must).1 point

Ive always liked Mark Lemon , he was the rider who knocked Richard Hall off in ht 14 allowing the Panthers to get a 5-1 in the rerun against Reading in 2006 and then in 2021 he put Etheridge in ht 6 as R/R with Brennan against Harris & Palm Toft that turned the play off final firmly in Panthers favour , so hes had a hand in helping the Panthers to win the league title twice now ,1 point

I’ve just seen the prices and for just about the first time in my life time following British Speedway, I think it’s decent value. £11.99 per match, 17.99 monthly or £109 for the season. If you are a general speedway fan who watches any match on TV then £109 for over 30 matches represents pretty good value I would say. Likewise the £11.99 for one match isn’t high enough to make people stay home who would normally go but reasonable to expect an away fan to pay it. Decent value all round.1 point
