  1. I've never supported the idea that live broadcasting of league racing in the UK was of benefit to the sport Certainly for it to be broadcast whilst other tracks are staging meetings makes absolutely no sense Clearly what money has been provided over the years has not been used for the good of the sport - some pockets have been lined instead I confess that I'm not au fait with "live streaming" but I get the idea - correct me if I'm wrong - that the broadcast is via t'internet, thus to PCs, iPads, iPhones, etc - can't see how that can attractively compare with the big tv in the big room in the house! I can watch a meeting on the tv in comfort, but I wouldn't want to sit at my computer or on my iPad for 2+ hours - particularly if it depends on broadband speeds I'm sure there's a lot more to it than I know!
  2. This is what he posted on the "World Championship Pairs" thread _______________ WHERE'S the fun in that? _______________
  3. By his own admission recently on this forum, he likes to tell just part of the story, to start minds and tongues working, then refuses to tell the significant rest of the story - for his own amusement
  4. Sorry to say I didn't recognise CVS when the cameras showed him night I wish him well
  5. Strange how your consensus says one thing, the consensus on here says the other!
  6. What part of "if Woffinden had slowed to block Emil, Lambert might have had a chance to pass him" do you not understand? It's not a case of Emil v Lambert (agree with you, Emil should win from a leading position), it's about Emil having to deal with Woffinden in front as well as Lambert who wasn't that far behind
  7. Not under the CO - he ran four team events, three team events, amongst others, to ensure the good speedway folk of Warwickshire did not go without their weekly meeting He ran the sport as an entertainment for his customers, putting them at a level on par with the riders - he did things right
  8. I'm sure that if Coventry were still running at Brandon under Charles Ochiltree, he would have put on a meeting in order to maintain his full, regular, calendar - no blank weeks for the CO (except the regular Stox Saturdays)
  9. It's Great Britain, not Team GB Even the shouters had to correct themselves tonight
  10. According to Sir Shoutevenmoretonight, when Russia were 2 points ahead of Great Britain, Great Britain needed a 4-2 in their last race to overtake them No Nige, a 3-3 would do!
  11. I understood that, at last, that dreadful "Team GB" had been dropped, and we were finally "Great Britain" again
  12. So why did you say anything, Philip? Once again it's a case of "I know something but I'm not telling!" Keep it shut if you haven't got anything to say in full
  13. These days, most riders (and team managers) appear to answer questions with "Yes, no"
  14. "Fully professional speedway" That's been the downfall here in the UK Remember the amalgamation between the National League and the Provincial League in 1965, how successful that was in forming the British League That wonderful first meeting, ex-NL Coventry v ex-PL Cradley Heath, bumper crowd, the forerunner of many such meetings all around the UK Just how many of those 14 riders in that first meeting were "fully professional"? Answer = none So the pay-rates were affordable from the relatively low admission prices, the amalgamated league provided sufficient meetings for all riders to earn some decent money to cover their costs and supplement their "proper jobs", whilst the regular programme and the admission prices kept attendances at good levels - yes, it was semi-pro, and it worked - the big league meant a varied list of visiting teams, unlike today's mini Premiership Guests were few and far between, rider replacement unheard of, doubling up only came along when BL2 arrived and some juniors in that league made it into BL1 teams
  15. If by downgraded you mean semi-professional then so be it - that's how it was in 1965 for the majority of riders, who rode UK and had jobs/professions as well The likes of Rick France, Ron Mountford, Ivor Brown - even Nigel Boocock - all had income from outside the sport Full-time Speedway isn't sustainable nowadays and the riders need to realise this - then the financial side might be able to be sorted
  16. Attendances show fixed nights aren't attracting enough customers Tracks must operate on the best nights for them - and we must have Friday and Saturday nights as Speedway nights
  17. Guests and rr were mainly caused by doubling up - one league would solve that
  18. So your answer is to run on nights the fans clearly don't want, or can't attend That sounds like a plan devised by the BSPA
  19. Perhaps use all the Polish and Swedish riders who lose their team places to those "leaving these shores" How can you justify a Friday night with just two meetings in Britain - a Friday night when the kids have no school tomorrow
  20. So Poland and Sweden have team places available do they?
