  1. You mean to say they've got Peter York? Do you think they'll keep him?
  2. However well Woffinden might be at training young riders, there would be virtually no way they could reach the levels he has done without the expensively-prepared rocket machines he has had access to the last few years
  3. Excellent post - absolutely spot on!
  4. That's just Wikipedia, gustix - not always known for factual accuracy!
  5. I can only echo those words above RIP Bob
  6. I don't have biases to put to one side I've only had one speedway bias - which I have never denied - and that is/was against Ole Olsen Read back if you will, the point was not that Woffinden is not entertaining, just that I find that there are more entertaining riders than him I've enjoyed watching him on-track, but there are riders I enjoy watching more That's not bias - just personal preference (and where would a forum like this be without personal preferences and opinions?)
  7. No I haven't! Over 50 years watching our wonderful sport, and I wouldn't class Woffinden as "one of the most entertaining riders" But it's just a personal opinion - each to their own! Good - yes (I remember a faultless 15pt maximum at Brandon a few years back) and on pretty damn good machinery too Marginally more entertaining than Hancock, but not in the same league as Rickardsson, Gollob, AJ, Emil, Nicki, Crump, Darcy Ward - even Bomber!
  8. I did read your post back and the main point appeared to be "I pay my money to be entertained on the track....not off it !" Your association is not questioned, although in 47 years you've not always had the bottom tier of racing - Hans Nielsen, Billy Sanders, Steve Bastable, the Grahame brothers, all spring to mind! Woffinden IS in the top class of riders, I don't disagree
  9. Sounds to me more like you want to be associated with a successful rider rather than "be entertained on the track" There's more entertaining riders than Woffinden, even if they are less successful There were more entertaining riders than Mauger and Olsen, but less successful There have been discussions on the forum regarding entertaining riders, and I doubt that "108" comes near the top Just my observation I concede, however, that you're entitled to your opinion - same as everyone
  10. Thanks for that. Not on "FB" so guess I won't see any
  11. Here's a link to Poole Stadium Ltd https://companycheck.co.uk/company/03066878/POOLE-STADIUM-LIMITED/companies-house-dataInteresting that the registered office address appears to be Abbey Stadium, Swindon Also interesting to read all of Osborne's directorships, past and present Incidentally, why is there NO mention on Poole Borough website of a stadium?
  12. Not sure, but Greg Hancock is 46 And Emil just had his first heat win back in the GPs
  13. IMHO Jeff Davies is top man these days
  14. Shepton Mallet Journal - Friday 24 February 1928 NEW SPORT. Nearly 15,000 people attended the first dirt track motor cycle racing meeting held in England at High Beach Speedway, near Loughton, Essex, Sunday. The Speedway is a roughly circular track of cinders and dirt about quarter of a mile in circumference, previously used for bicycle races. Two Australian “cracks,” Keith Mackay and Billy Galloway, who are over here to popularise the sport, competed in the events, and provided the spectators with many thrills. Some superb riding was witnessed, the competitors skidding their machines at 50 miles hour, sending showers of dirt up from their sliding wheels. In the first race in which they competed both the Australians were unfortunate. Mackay went over the line, and then Galloway, crashed owing to his driving-chain jumping off. H. J. Foulds (Sunbeam) won in good style from W. Pointer (Ariel). The home riders thus gave a highly commendable display. The average speed for the races was 33 m.p.h. Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Saturday 25 February 1928 MOTOR NOTES. How thrilling dirt track racing can be when experienced riders round each curve in one continuous skid on an illuminated track can hardly be appreciated, says "The Motor Cycle," by anyone who has not seen the sports as practised in Australia or America. However, those who watched Sunday's race meeting the King's Oak Speedway, High Beech, Loughton, found that even in daylight and with riders unused to cinder track racing there thrills in plenty. Although the Ilford Club’s venture was the nature of an experiment, it proved a great success and showed the many thousands who attended that the new sport has possibilities which, when fully developed, should result in a pastime making a wide appeal among the general public as well as motor cyclists. In its present state the track which was used is not ideal; its surface needs improvement, the width is insufficient, and there are not the necessary facilities for spectators. To see the races properly, it is essential for the spectators to be on the outside of the track, and to ensure their safety there should be a rider-proof barrier of handle-bar height. These points, and the improvement the track itself, will, no doubt, receive attention if, as is hoped, those responsible for the event develop the Speedway. Considering the fact that hardly any competitors had ever before attempted dirt track racing, the riding was of a remarkably high standard, and some of the skid correction a pleasure to watch. There was no broadsiding in the true sense of the word, for the surface was not conducive to this method of rounding the curves, and only one or two of the riders had the knowledge or experience to adopt the practice. The general organisation of the meeting was exceptionally good, and the Ilford Club has reason to be proud of the smooth way in which the lengthy programme of events was run off. In the latter connexion the Club was greatly assisted by the excellent behaviour of the crowd.
