  1. Yes, what I posted was in the "Coventry Stadium Sold" thread, hence that reference Mr Ochiltree was A director and a MINOR shareholder - it was a business decision taken by the company in which he was involved, but most certainly not in a position to sell Blackbird Road - or Custom House before that The company's day-to-day operations, in which the Ochiltrees were involved, included the running of speedway and stock cars, and printing for sports bodies - their role was not in the sale of land and buildings The wealth lay in the hands of the Sanderson family through several generations That's Brandon - the topic is centred around Blackbird Road from years before
  2. #213 Coventry Stadium Sold: post #213 Humphrey Appleby Posted 24 February 2014 - 07:53 AM PHILIPRISING, on 24 Feb 2014 - 05:15 AM, said: WASN'T it the Sanderson family who actually owned the stadium rather than the Ochiltrees themselves? It's been discussed umpteen times on here, but from recollection the Ochiltrees were minor shareholders and it wouldn't have their decision.
  3. And until relatively recently, speedway wasn't "win at all costs"
  4. Even so, how can there be any satisfaction with this debacle? Is there no concern about the sport?
  5. What a sad, selfish attitude - do you not care about the bigger picture, the future, if there is one, of what used to be the most wonderful sport?
  6. I thought this had been discussed before, that it wasn't Mr Ochiltree's decision
  7. Shale coming off the bike/s in front - Bomber used the term last night on BT
  8. Can't believe how so many continue to take the bait dangled by Mr S Shoveller Still admire the way he/she came up with such a username
  9. Is the cone on the start the same one which appeared in the SWC at Kings Lynn?
  10. They weren't - they were watering for days prior to yesterday And having checked the weather forecast regularly, I can say that the BBC were forecasting showers for Sunday as late as Saturday morning!
  11. Must admit I left at 2.50pm, having been there since before 10.00am It had got to the stage where riders disappeared into a cloud of dust which had not totally cleared when they came round again Taking photographs proved eventually to be a fruitless exercise, the leader on lap one the only possible image to be had Final straw for me was, immediately after the fourth or fifth watering, the sidecars came out and it became clear that the water sprayer had made no difference whatsoever Can't blame the organisers for the weather - it really was hot yesterday - but, yes, there were delays to the programme early on which set everything back, and information was not always forthcoming Feel sorry for the organisers who put in a massive effort to stage this event, and they will be as disappointed as all the riders and spectators at the outcome There is always the chance of something going wrong in a programme of 40+ races, on a circuit far bigger than a speedway track - plus the insurance requirement of practice time for each and every rider Very sad at how things panned out yesterday
  12. This was posted on the Oxford thread today
  13. Not me that's ignorant - you sir.Don't know what the first word is in your language, but in English, the second word is OFF Nowhere did I say Poland, and not FIM, banned Laguta - just read it, or get a proper translation The Polish speedway authorities have produced a drugs result, the timing of which seems somewhat strange, following Russia's impressive qualification at Vastervik and Australia's less than impressive performance at Kings Lynn Maybe, just maybe, someone Polish was worried that Russia just might come good in the final if they qualified That's all I'm saying - I think Rob McC agrees with me
  14. I find it somewhat strange that, shortly before the race-off, a Russian rider was barred from riding as a result of a decision taken by the Polish speedway authorities So, a leading rider in an opposing team is made to withdraw
  15. Oxford Mail today : http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/15397743.Council_boss_chosen_to_manage_stadium_takeover/
  16. Natalie's just come out with a "How important is it" question to Scott Nicholls I hope that's a one-off and we're not going to see the return of it in every interview like that Sheffield United supporting lass
  17. Why can't they f@@k off this Team This, Team That, Team The Other crap There's nothing on the race bibs about Team . . . It was bad enough with Team GB all the time - now Scott Nicholls is coming out with Team Australia, Team Denmark . . . The jackets they wear state "Great Britain Speedway Team" FFS - enough!
