  1. I'll stick my with consistent thought that the current decline - there have been others in the past from which some level of recovery was made - began with the creation of Ole Olsen's Flying Circus (what has become known as GPs) and the introduction of live televised speedway I am absolutely sure that the main reason for falling attendances in the UK is the fact that devotees, and potential new fans**, can watch (what was Elite League) racing on Monday night, Swedish League on Tuesday night, and a GP or European Championship on a Saturday night, all live and in the comfort of home, pub or club Previously, to watch, you had to attend ** I'm also sure that potential new fans are dissuaded from attending in person, when they see the start line shenanigans, hear of riders guesting and doubling up/down etc etc - if they had just gone to their local track they would more than likely enjoyed the thrills, spills and smells of the racing ahead of anything else Yes, the stadium conditions for the paying public leave much to be desired and may well have also had an impact My 7 year old grandson, and his cousin who is 9 - they have all the gadgets and gizmos you would expect - absolutely loved their first ever visit to speedway last season, and keep on asking when will we be taking them again
  2. This thread is "SGB Premiership Speedway League", but the next two are "SGB Championship League Speedway" and "National League Speedway" Shouldn't there be some consistency, "speedway league" or "league speedway"?
  3. Wonderful to see black leathers, race bibs, helmet colours - and no gardening at the tapes
  4. I presume the Track Shop won't be open tomorrow as it usually is pre-Christmas
  5. On "Does Speedway have a future" on Speedway discussions: Posted 07 December 2016 - 12:35 PM Pieman72, on 07 Dec 2016 - 10:44 AM, said: Unfortunately Coventry Speedway is no more fixtures, fittings and shale have all been removed. housing will be built on the site and speedway will be no more. Fundamentally profitability entertainment and survival is the crucial situation. To fight off housing propectors, the sites must turn in a profit. I'd rather have a full stadium with £10 per head than £18 and an empty one. It would be more profitable, draw an analogy between the discount supermarkets and the big four it can't be clearer. Same products but without the frills. Could you guarantee a full one though?
  6. Back on the virtually illegible font again! It's not very pretty, and it's not very easy to read
  7. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/speedway/coventry-bees-new-speedway-stadium-12279965
  8. They're too expensive for the UK - it's all about reducing costs (as any business will endeavour to do in difficult times) - it's not rocket science (no Rye House pun intended)
  9. On what? Fire? Drugs? Sunday? The table? ITV? The buses?
  10. No no no. You'd only be encouraging more Peter York time
  11. Not if Peter York is still there What average does Ebola come in on?
  12. Looks like Tiger Woods has pinched Tai's can of drink with a straw in it It was in front of him at his press conference today - just seen on SSN He's also wearing his Monster cap
  13. http://www.coventrybees.co/news.php?extend.3794 Sounds really encouraging
  14. Just hope the dreadful Peter York isn't part of the fixtures and fittings being reinstated
  15. Makes me think Bomber got wind of this some time ago - allowing him to plan for 2017 in peace
  16. What limit are Wolverhampton working to if they have 30 points left?
  17. Shut it, you - we don't want any input from you Sandhu only fell out of love with speedway because of your lot Get off our thread
  18. There are many references to Mick Horton doing everything, including team building, on the cheap He obviously doesn't have a bottomless pit of funds, and has to work to a budget - he clearly doesn't make a fortune out of being promoter of Bees, but is willing to give it a go as far as those funds will go Thanks to him Bees have survived to 2016, despite various problems thrust on him not of his creation - and he carries on into 2017 with the clear intention of speedway continuing at Brandon Other promotions have gone under through financial problems, but Bees continue, at present, thanks to Mick Horton's efforts
  19. Call for Mr Watson Call for Mr Watson Will Mr Watson please come to the forum
  20. LOOKING forward to Philippe responding to this excellent post: Quite simply, its better to have an editorial that highlights abuses than not have one at all(and hence seem to be complicit in or turn a blind eye to those abuses). As to why it should be you, you have been in speedway for at least 50 years and have been around the top teams, promoters and stars during that time whichgives you a wealth of experience that few of us can match. I can't think of many who are better placed. It really doesn't matter what the BSPA think. The Star is a magazine for the fans of the sport, not those that run it. Fair observation of decisions, actions etc by anyone within the sport - promoters, riders etc - gives it, in my view at least, all the more credibility and such editorials need not be just for the purpose of being critical but can also give the credit to those that deserve it.
