  1. Good! That means, to get your speedway fix, you'll have to go the track instead of watching on tv
  2. It's far too easy now to get your speedway fix in your living room or down the pub A weekly magazine programme with some highlights and details of fixtures to come - yes But Elite/Premier and Swedish Leagues, SEC, SGP, SWC - it's far too much coverage The draw of going to the track and seeing live speedway is not there in the way it used to be, the way it should be
  3. That won't do anything for our sport What is needed is more bums on seats at the track, not in the living room And I'm not sure, in this age, that the return of the World Champion will put many bums on seats Why? Because of TV There's no "mystique" anymore - you can see Tai on TV, week in, week out, almost Back in the day, "Norwich are here on Saturday - great, a chance to see Ove Fundin" Or Belle Vue/Peter Craven They were draw cards, and if you didn't attend the track, you didn't see them TV, and the way it's been misused, has ruined UK speedway Thanks, Ole Olsen & Co
  4. I thought NKI was only a temporary replacement at the start of the season until Batchelor returned to the team How come he's stayed after Batchelor, and Schlein, have reappeared?
  5. . . . and how many riders will be missing due to conflict of fixtures!
  6. Let those that wish to ply their trade in GPs, SEC, and foreign leagues get on their bikes and go, and leave us a British League for committed riders with meetings each and every week for the clubs
  7. Why on earth should that matter? In "the good old days" we turned up every week at our local track to watch the speedway racing - that's what it was all about, and so much better for it.
  8. Peter Kenyon (Coventry) is the best there is - just ask Barry and Tony Briggs, plus many more riders That's why he's been at Cardiff for years and was at the SWC
  9. Anyone remember Jimmy Gooch cartwheeling through the back straight fence at Custom House in a 1960s British Final? Walked away!
  10. Would be great to see Chris's Harris aboard a "Peter Johns Rocket" such as Tai Woffinden is testing in Poland
  11. Johnson, Jankowski, Lugata, Kildermand ???? Been at the Wincarnis, Philippe ? Concentrate on t'spelling rather than the needless capital letters !
  12. May I be the first in this thread to wish Bees a successful season at Rugby Road next year!
  13. Confirmation if ever it was needed that UK league speedway is best served by only using riders 100% committed to riding here If you want to ride in Poland, Sweden or wherever, "on your bike" One big league in the UK with sufficient meetings to keep the riders fully occupied over here, seven days a week Plus development league where applicable
  14. Hope this proves correct Which "Smith" do you mean? George, Col, Frank, Paul, Andy or Jamie?????
  15. Absolutely no doubt about that, it was clearly premeditated
  16. That's one example of how things have changed over the years. In TGOD there was no difference between a league match and a challenge - two full seven man teams riding 100% for their teams, fully supported by both sets of fans. It meant not a jot whether there were league points, or a cup place, at stake, it was a speedway team event to be enjoyed to the full.
  17. But it's not regular week-in week-out meetings like it used to be Saturday nights, every week excluding the stock-cars on the 1st Saturday, plus Wednesdays for off-nights At home, something like 17 or 18 league, three or four Midland League (or Midland Cup), a WCQR, a MRCQR plus the final, British Final, a couple of challenge matches perhaps, Brandonapolis With interesting 2nd halves, inc. Rider of the Night (riders swooping bikes, sometimes!) with all the riders competing and not rushing off after the match Everyone happy to turn out for all meetings, regardless of team strength or opposition, knowing who'd be there in the home team (no journeymen), riders fully committed to the team ethic And there was never any situation where team strengthening was a topic - it didn't happen, it didn't need to - unless there was a long term injury, teams never seemed to change - so the riders knew what their season-long programme was Oh the good old days!
