  1. Some great names on that page... Robert Millar (as was) fantastic cycllst at 12.30. Keith Huewen in his racing days at 3.15 Alex Arguello, Aaron Pryor (fight 2) and Hit-Man Hearns at 4.00. Not to mention the St Leger at 3.05 (Sun Princess won for Willie Carson if I recall) John Noakes presenting Good Morning Britain at 6.25 - can't recall him doing that - but it was hardly a programme I watched.
  2. Made a terrific start, but the gate positions are playing too much a of a part in this.
  3. You say South East - I say East. All these suburbs named after it, yet the Bourne is nowt but a wee dribble.
  4. Agreed. But you miss my point. Your argument was that Westbourne was so named as it was West Bournemouth. I was merely pointing out that Southbourne (being to the East of Bournemouth) was wrongly named.
  5. So why is Southbourne the other side of Boscombe then? Makes no sense. (Not to mention where Eastbourne is) Having said that I agree Westbourne is part of Bournemouth - and from what I remember a very nice part.
  6. Given the problems his riding for Torun have caused the club it would have been an appropriate gesture to have got back for today's meeting, But if there's a facility then I suppose you expect it to be used.
  7. Ta for responding. I guessed it was that but when I saw Bewley was due to have ridden prior to his injury I wasn't sure.
  8. As a Heathen I guess my favourite Kiwi has to be Bruce Cribb, who rode for us for 6 seasons through most of the 70's and continued in the National League in the 80's - not forgetting his Ice Racing exploits. Won the title with Poole in 1969 along with fellow Frank Shuter, who deserves special mention for his feat of winning 3 titles with 3 separate clubs (albeit 2 in the pre-Backtrack era). Wayne Brown was another rider who having made the jump up to the British League with Sheffield in 1982 had achieved a very respectable average.Never returned to the UK to ride as he stayed at home to set up his own business I believe, so we'll never know what he could have achieved before his untimely passing in the early 90's. One rider who I believe was a Kiwi not mentioned so far - Mark Lyndon who rode for Wimbledon and Rye House in the late 80's.
  9. Just caught up with this, much better recording so as to cut out the chat and time wasting at the start. Fair play to the Stars for giving it a good go, they might have been a team thrown together but they deserve credit for their efforts last night. Just as well their efforts kept some interest as the racing was the usual Blunsdon fare.
  10. It was Phil Rising who said Monster are "not consulted". I'm not that naive to think they would not have some sort of influence - doesn't mean I like it or think that it's right. Not worth getting stressed about at the minute as until we het the qualifiers from Togliatti and the top 8 it's all guesswork.
  11. However, in the post Cardiff edition of the Star - "Dropping Hancock and Holder - huge fan favourites and members of the Monster Energy stable - could also be controversial". The mention of Monster as even a factor makes my blood boil. Sponsorship should play no part in who gets a pick. In the same article the vulnerability of Zagar and Vaculik is mentioned as they represent "two of the sports smaller nations". Hope they both qualify in Togliatti. Holder must be vulnerable. With the possibility of a Swede and /or a Dane needing a pick is there a need for a second Aussie? Monster rider or not!
  12. NKI the Danish Champ, and whilst he's not pulling up any trees in the GP's he's shown enough in the past couple of years to get a pick if required.
  13. I didn't think it could be, then I remembered Emil has a beach hut near Branksome Chine.
  14. According to this weeks Star, the meeting ref - Ronnie Allen - and other officials have sent reports about the Cook incident to the SCB.
  15. Hopefully in the not to distant future you'll have to amend your Cradley entry to "Cradley Heath (Dudley Wood)! Love the site though.
  16. Will have to be on after the 9 o'clock watershed.
  17. Not much overtaking but against expectations I really enjoyed tonights meeting. Both full 7 men teams and the close scoreline made it good watching.
  18. Less cameras is obviously a negative, hopefully improved next season. However, the other areas of presentation are so much better. Very few pointless interviews between races means the action rattles along and most of the chat and analysis takes place after Heat 15. Big improvement for those at the meeting and watching at home. Natalie and Steve Brandon do a very professional job as presenters/interviewers.
  19. Interesting. I had it in the back of my mind (a very cluttered place) that it was a football pitch. But Peter Foster's history of the club had a different story as mentioned by myself earlier in this thread. i.e. purpose built behind the Victoria Brewery. My Dad arrives this evening for a wee visit - he should know.
  20. So Batchelor wouldn't have had any qualms about moving to Poole (or anywhere else) just before the deadline and seeing another rider dumped without a team place.
  21. How could you have heavily fined Batchelor? He was signed by the doctor at the track.
