  1. Does that not tell you something? Absolutely spot on. It all comes back to the old problem.. the same problem that sees owners like Sandhu driven out of the sport. It's a mates club.. and it is never going to grow and progress while it is that way.
  2. It's not going to happen though, as you can see from this thread, some folk think its 'daft'. Seems the 'daft' businesses are the ones getting ahead, while the ones who aren't 'daft' refuse to change, get stuck in the past and wither away and die.
  3. No, it has nothing to do with the sportsmen with the most personality at all. The award is for the most succesful sportsmen (who happen to be personalities within their sport) in the given year.
  4. I agree, to be honest I don't think many are though and it's crazy the thread is drifting in that direction. Tennis IS one of the most demanding sports you can play. If you consider that's its a constant sequence of bursts of energy, constant change of direction etc. Basic physics tells you when you are constantly stopping and starting, running one way then the other, its a lot more demanding than running the same distance in a straight line non stop. Not only that but there are other exertions in tennis, each shot taken is often akin to throwing a punch in a boxing match, each serve expends even more energy and taxes other parts of the body. Attacking such a sport will do speedway no favors, in fact quite the opposite. All this boils down to is there is one name on the list who quite simply should not be there in any way shape or form, that is Ainslie. There are many more worthy candidates for that place in the top 10, of which Tai was just ONE of them. To say he definately SHOULD have been on the list is going too far.
  5. It really does beggar belief how some people seem to be flocking to the banner of 'Onesport'. Do we want the World Championship put in the hands of an effectively mafioso body? We've seen how they operate and we are seeing further examples of it now. Non-stop progaganda via the polish website, much of it half truths or total lies to whip up support for their agenda. We've seen them blatantly continue to advertise Tai Woffinden as racing in the final round of the SEC last year, causing issues for the rider himself, when they knew all along and had indeed been informed he would not be riding. We've seen how the owner of Torun acts (big player in this) when he doesn't get his own way. He makes Matt Ford look like an angel. Pulling his team out of the 2nd leg of a Play-off Final just because he couldn't bully his way to a postponement? What are we to expect next? Cancellation of Championship rounds if his rider can't make that meeting? Now we have these threats from Emil, who just happens to be a Torun rider.... There isn't an app as such Humphrey, but you can subscribe through Exact Editions and it is viewable on the IPad, it's how I read it myself.
  6. They have to pull the trigger, that's a physical exertion
  7. Wasn't my definition. Besides, there is physical exertion in darts. Or do the darts propel themselves into the board
  8. All sports began as recreational activtiies, or GAMES. Regardless WK. You are wrong, in every single aspect. Its not something that is even up for 'opinion'. Darts meets the definition of Sport in every single way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports#Board_sports References the World Sports Encylopedia which, guess what, Darts is there of course. Definition of sport " an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment" Darts meets the criteria. It is also officially classified by Sport England as a Sport. So it's not 'opinion'. Its Fact.
  9. You haven't debated anything WK. You have stated Darts isn't a sport because fat people can be successful at it. Now, not only is that wrong, it also very offensive. I am still waiting for your explanation why golf is a sport as 'fat people' can be successful at that too. What about NFL? Is that a sport? There are many 'fat' players. Even Rugby Union has had its share of 'fat people' over the years. Are you suggesting these aren't sports? As it stands, that is your only comment on the subject, so YES you are looking foolish AND offensive. Over to you to clarify.
  10. It would also mean you would no longer have considered speedway a sport
  11. All of this minority sport/mainstream sport, is it a sport, isn't it a sport is getting away from the main injustice in that Ben Ainslie is utterly undeserving of his place on this years list. There are many, including Woffinden who have achieved more in their sports in 2013.
  12. WK, you are making yourself look very foolish. Nobody is criticizing golf or suggesting it isn't a sport. Only White Knight is being foolish with his suggestion that darts isn't a sport because fat people can do well at it. He is of course talking utter rubbish. I would actually state that someone like Phil Taylor puts in more training/practice for his sport than most other sportsmen do. The comparison with golf was made in that if darts is not a sport, then neither is golf. Of course they both are.
  13. How so? It doesn't fit what you described as a sport earlier? Fat people can play it and be very succesful at it, so why is Golf different to Darts? I assume archery isn't a sport in your eyes either?
  14. I still don't buy into this 'good racing' brings in the crowds fallacy. Which track in the EL for years has been getting plaudits for its great racing?.... Which one has gone out of business? Meanwhile another track in the south-east and its not Eastbourne, is constantly criticised for its 'racing' yet seems to be one of the most stable clubs. If Poole were bottom of the league, but with fantastic racing every week, they'd get half the crowds they would if they were top of the league with average racing
  15. I've no doubt those who dismiss Darts as a sport would say likewise about Snooker. As you have highlighted and I mentioned earlier, it would also mean dismissing Golf as a 'sport' too. You could also throw Archery, Shooting in there as well to be 'dismissed'.
  16. Nitpicking? You posted something that was a load of cobblers. This was pointed out and of course you are unable to substantiate the rubbish you posted and now resort to further childish statements. Let us know about this event that's attended by 500 people, of which 499 people don't what to be here.. What is it? Where is it? As it simply isn't the event we are discussing on this thread. No it wasn't a massive worldwide event. Are you really that unable to use your own mind? It's staggering that someone on TV tells you something and you just accept it. 30,000 people could be bothered to watch this so called massive event. That's the facts. It was tiny, insignificant and the British sporting public weren't interested. Given the publicity and hype given to the event, to only attract 30,000 viewers is shocking! Pool attracted more viewers. Athletics, no argument there. World Champions in their disciplines deserve to be recognised. How did Ainslie get on in the World Championships in this year of 'sporting achievement'? Ah.. he didn't did he.
  17. That isn't the complaint Humphrey. All sports deserve some form of coverage in my opinion. The complaint is more the disproportionate coverage given to some sports compared to who is actually interested in them as has been demonstrated on this thread. It's also in relation to those stating Woffinden (and others) shouldn't be on the list because they are from minority sports that few people watch.. or that they shouldn't be there as nobody knows who they are.. they won't know.. till they are told.
  18. Don't forget also John, there were no Olympics this year.
  19. The facts are Elephantman, the Americas Cup, the 'pinnacle of sailing'. An event that was given massive media coverage. An event that the final race was being billed as 'the greatest comeback in sporting history'.. Despite all this only 30,000 people bothered to watch it... Now, we know how even speedway fans feel about the Elite League and the state it is in, yet in the same week that attracted 72,000 viewers.. that tells me more than enough how much the public actually do care about sailing and the 'achievement' of Ainslie last year. Those are facts. Not predjudice. Stone cold facts. Very few people cared.
  20. As a participation activity, that is somewhat different. Totally irrelevant to sailing as a 'sport'. Did the BBC and other press outlets with their non stop bombardment of Americas Cup coverage stop and say.. Hang on.. nobody bothered to watch this thing, perhaps they aren't interested? No, they didn't. Its a posh sport that will get covered, its how the media work. As spurious as your post. Most people are clueless until they are informed about something. Therein lies the issue, the selective nature. People know about some athletes because they have no choice not to know about it, Ainslie and the Americas Cup is the perfect example. Mass media coverage for something that the viewing figures showed, very very few people actually gave a stuff about. However that coverage further keeps the name Ben Ainslie on peoples brains. Its the same principle as in advertising and product recognition. Again, I am not saying Woffinden should have been on the list, there are many other worthy candidates that you point out. However I will say that he, Taylor, O'Sullivan etc are ALL more worthy than Ainslie. In fact I will go as far as to say Ainslie's inclusion in the list is the most farcical in the history of the competition.
  21. Irrelevant ranting in attempt at another pop at the BSPA. There are plenty of threads to do that one and I have done it often enough.. however it becomes rather tiresome when the same old drivel is spouted on threads that have nothing to do with that. The rants about minority sport hold no credence as sailing is one of the sports listed.
  22. What are you observations? You've mentioned someone called Tia, I know of no speedway riders by that name.. and mentioned an awards event with 500 people in attendance.. Neither of them are what is being discussed on this thread and seem to be figments of your imagination.
  23. You've shown disrespect by once again calling him 'Tia'. Nullifies the rest of your observations. As for '500' people.. try 12,000.
