  1. Sad to report the passing of Ivor Thomas on Friday 14th December our condolences go to the Thomas family on his passing. A true gentleman and rider in his time we owe him everything at the Iwade training track now Sittingbourne as quite simply we would not be here today running without Ivor setting the track up in 1971.
  2. Nice tribute to Ken in the Speedway Star Dec.15th edition may he rest in peace.
  3. The coverage came across very well, most enjoyable, hard racing from ultra fit competitors, roll on the next match!
  4. Thank you for the post Nikko, and yes the post should be altered to Kent Speedway 2013, representing the Sittingbourne Club on this forum as I do it is a positive move for Speedway in Kent and we do welcome the introduction of League racing to Central Park, this includes Graham Arnold to some peoples surprise no doubt. Once again I must state the name Sittingbourne is legally owned by the Iwade Club, hence Roger Cearns is using the name Kent and He has no problem with that. From my personal point of view I would wish the new side not to use the nickname 'Crusaders' as this is a new venture. Many years ago we asked Lionel Hoskins permission to use the name which he consented too and still use it to this day. As for the racejacket the Kent emblem is in fact a Rampant White Stallion on a Red background and the area is steeped in history of the Battle of Britain so ' Spitfires' is my choice with a chance tie up of Sponsorship from Kents oldest Brewery Shepherd Neame. They are based in Faversham, like sponsoring Family orientated sport and produce the famous Spitfire ale. A continuing photo album of Central Park Stadium under construction for Speedway can be found at WWW.ESSEXSPORTSAGENCY.COM
  5. This is a good idea and we are open for taking this forward at Sittingbourne. Inter amateur team events is worth looking at and our club are very interested in this proposal.
  6. 8. Weather hot and sunny should be a good day, Trisha Bridger will be in attendance with her new book ' Speedway ' in aid of the # RICO fund as will Rerun videos with the new Lee Richardson Tribute dvd. Admission is £5 for day club membership and the young lads will be divided into 500, 250 and 125cc classes. Racing will be fast and furious as this is the final Round 6 in the Championship with all to be decided on the day. You may well be seeing a future world champion in action as the track can boast that Michael Lee and Mark Loram both used the track to reach the top of the tree in our sport.
  9. Trisha Bridger will be in attendance with Her new book ' Speedway ' in aid of the RICO fund.
  10. No weather problems on the horizon for this one, and work going on all week to make the meeting special for the lads taking part, looking forward to it.
  11. Lakeside photographer Tony Fowles will be taking to the track for the first time and will be raising money for the RICO fund , He is suggesting 10p a lap sponsorship but any money will be gratefully accepted.
  12. Yes the Club are looking forward to this event our big meeting of the year, we do enjoy seeing the stars of the future in action and are very proud and indeed privileged to be holding the final round in what should be a very hotly contested meeting. Good luck to all those taking part we hope you will enjoy your day.
  13. Thank you for the for the kind words we are always so pleased to here from anybody who has come along and enjoyed themselves, we all hope your daughters enjoyed a spin on a new circuit for them and hope to see you all at some time in the future. Ian Glover
  14. Sadly its another washout with heavy overnight rain slow to clear and a flooded track.
  15. Rains got the better of this one I'm afraid absolute deluge overnight.
  16. Well I'm not happy about putting the meeting on after the main match, if you cant get their in time, stay behind at the end of the meeting and take the fence down to help the few of us track staff that are left. Will be lucky to get home at 1am Sat morning if this becomes a regular feature.
  17. What an excellent thread this is and just goes to prove Cycle Speedway should have its place on this website and be included in the forthcoming Olympic games if only as a demonstration sport.
  18. Thats good put the word out and hoped it would work, has not been up to Iwade this year yet.
  19. It must have been talked about before but why can't a percentage of the sky money no matter how small be ploughed into Youth development surely the subject has been discussed at BSPA meetings or is it a step too far?
  20. Looking forward to this after the Sittingbourne meeting so good to see the youngsters progressing at meetings of this quality. On behalf of the Sittingbourne Club thankyou for visiting us and thanks for all the kind comments of our track we look forward to your return in the near future.
  21. Can confirm start time will be 12 NOON, on Sunday 11th September and not as advertised at 3pm correction should be in this weeks Speedway Star
  22. The Ramsgate dog track and Dumpton Park were one and the same venue very similar to the old Hackney Wick stadium.
  23. Thought you might be interested to know that in the late 1970s Cradley Heath Promoter Dan McCormick did indeed propose to put a track in to the Dumpton Park dog stadium but it came to nothing mainly due to Wally Mawdsley protesting that the Ramsgate track was well within 40 miles of the Kingsmead Stadium in Canterbury. Sadly Dumpton Park is now a housing estate and only the fitness centre remains near to the Greyhound Pub.
