Does anyone know why in 1955 the Wembley Lions only rode one set of League matches at home (that season teams rode each other twice at home and twice away) ? I'm not aware of anything special going on at the Stadium (unlike the Olympic year). Does anyone know which of the matches against - Belle Vue (7/5, 2/7, 3/9), Birmingham (21/5, 18/6, 10/9), Bradford (14/5, 11/6, 30/7), Norwich (4/6, 13/8, 24/9), Wimbledon (25/4, 30/5, 1/8) & West Ham (10/5, 21/6, 26/7) - should have been Wembley's home match ? My information has been taken from the Speedway Researcher website. Cheers.

Thanks very much Steve for your help. Much appreciated.

Hi, Does anyone know the heat scores from the Mildenall v Rye House Cup match held on the 10th July 1982 and can you please let me have them ? Thanks
-
Thanks for the info Steve. I picked up the date and meeting format from the BSPA website - it hadn't given the result which is why I asked the above question. I'll go with your info.

Hi, Could some kind sole please tell me what the result from the Junior 4's meeting was that was held at Stoke on the 31st May 2008 ? Cheers

Hi, Can anyone give me heat details for the following Youth Development League matches for 1998 please ? The Speedway Star, for some stupid reason, didn't include Swindon's YDL season summary in the track review and the heat details/rider scores weren't given in the magazine either. 31/8 Coventry 15 Swindon 21 29/9 St Austell 20 Swindon 16 8/10 Swindon 21 Arena Essex 15 18/10 Mildenhall 9 Swindon 27 Many thanks.

There was one for Channel 4 in the mid-ish 90's on Eastbourne riders. Don't have it or remember much about it but I think it was were David Norris picked up a new nickname.

Anyone got any ideas when this website will be updated again ? I realise that the webmaster has had problems but it's been early April since the last real update (I'm aware that Coventry 1948 went on around July time but that's all). No digs or anything just wondering whats going on and hoping it's not going the way of so many tracks thats all.

Many thanks everyone for your help, it really is appreciated. Steve, Re: Workingotn v Teeside as given below Is there any way of checking the scores for this match ? Checking the heat results gives a final score of Workington 29 Teeside 19 with Hindle on 4, Newton on 5 and Emerson on 2 being the variants. Any ideas ? Cheers

Many thanks chaps for all your help, it is really appreciated. Just trying to get my records accurate. Parsloes, intrigued by your 'ill-fated' comment ? I remember about Ian, very tragic, but don't recollect anything regarding the other 7. I've seen a number 8 used similarly but only when that team didn;t think they had a chance and couldn't get anyone else to go out !
-
Arnieg many thanks for your help and Parsloes thank you too. I no longer have my old programmes but I remember being at Smallmead that Sunday. A bumper crowd kept waiting for the best part of an hour before they made up their minds and the clouds rolled in. One heat and that was it, still used the ticket to get in to the next days meeting against the Rebels (which we won). Those were the days. Anyone know how 'Split' Wasserman got on after his nasty accident in 1978 ? Other than him missing the world final I don't recall there being any updates on his condition.

Steve many thanks much appreciated.

Can someone please give me rider scores (rides, points, BP's don't need the heat details) for the following meetings held in 1977 ? 10/10/77 League match Bristol at Reading - the yearbook gives the score as 31-47 however it then only gives a total of 30 for the Bristol riders, do you know who got the missing point ? The yearbook has Herne at 17, Gresham at 9 and Boocock at 4. The other 3 riders each scoring 0 each - Woodward, Willmott, Garard. 23/4/77 Missing scores for the abandoned League match between Coventry & Cradley 21/5/77 The yearbook lists 8 riders as scoring points for Cradley against White City. The combined total for the 8 Heathens comes to 44 and not the 43 that it should be - who got a point too many ? 4/6/77 Cradley again. The yearbook says the score was 55-41 to the Heathens but the total for the rides cvomes to 54. 11/6/77 Missing scores for the abandoned Cup match between Halifax & Reading 27/4/77 Missing details for the abandoned Cup match between Poole & Reading 25/9/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Reading & Belle Vue 19/3/77 Missing details for the abandoned Challenge match between Swindon & Reading 12/5/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Wimbledon & Birmingham 30/9/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Wolves & Halifax In the National League 25/9/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Boston & Newcastle 6/6/77 Missing details for the abandoned NL 4TT Qualifier between Rye, Canterbury, Crayford & Eastbourne 26/4/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Crayford & Stoke 14/10/77 Yearbook has the score between Ellesmere & Newcastle as 51-27 but the total points scored by the Newcastle riders comes to 22 ! 9/6/77 Missing details for the abandoned NL 4TT Qualifier between Newport, Oxford, Stoke, Weymouth (at Newport) 5/5/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Oxford & Scunthorpe 25/8/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Oxford & Newport 19/9/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Scunthorpe & Crayford 26/8/77 Missing details for the abandoned Challenge match between Workington & Teeside 1/9/77 Missing details for the abandoned League match between Stoke & Berwick 11/6/77 Missing details for the abandoned NL 4TT Qualifier between Newport, Oxford, Stoke, Weymouth (at Stoke) Also looking for the number of rides and bonus points scored by the Ruda Hvezda riders in each of their 7 challenge matches (yearbook only lists points scored). Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

Was going to suggest the following site - http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/index.html This lists loads of info on country based Internationals (so includes tests). However, the Soviet Union in 1991 only toured here racing in Challenges against club sides so isn't, I think, listed in the above site. Starghost is correct, the address for the researcher site is - http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/home.html

Does anyone have meeting details (heat and/or rider scores) for this meeting please that they could let me have ?
-
Still in 1980 can anyone help out with the following please ? The yearbook for 1980 has a couple of errors. For Stoke against Oxford on 7th Sept (League) the yearbook only lists the scores for 6 riders (Burton, Boyle, North, Sawyer, Stead & Lightfoot) who have a combined score of 36. Does anyone know who the 7th rider was and the rides-points-bonus points they scored ? For Reading against Cradley on 12th May (challenge) the yearbook again only lists the scores for 6 riders (Davis, Leigh, Andersson, Briggs, Stancl & Ashby) who have a combined score of 38. I think the missing rider is Bobby Schwartz but can anyone confirm that (or name the missing rider) and give his score ?

Thanks again for all the help much appreciated.

Many thanks Jack for the info & doh (kicks self) ! should have said Nottingham not Long Eaton. Apologies.

Have you checked out the Speedway Researcher website ? They've got complete season details for 94 & 95 and part season details for Arena for 92. Loaders International has the 91 team as Bo Petersen, Brian Karger, Alan Molyneux, Andy Galvin, Jan Pedersen, Troy Pratt, Colin White, Paul Hurry, Robert Ledwith, Shaun Nicholls & Tommy Palmer. They competed in BL Division 2 in the League, Fours, Gold Cup, KO Cup. Presumably they may have been some challenges but I can't see them listed. The Junior team competed in Division Two Reserve League (Southern section) - Jason Crump, Colin White, Ricky Sandford, Shaun Nicholls, Paul Hurry, Robert Ledwith, Tommy Palmer, Nick Floyd, Terry Giles. Actually, just looked at the Researcher website and can't see the file for 91 so if you want it drop me a note of some sort.

Many thanks guys for all your help much appreciated. One other thing, which I forgot to put in the original post, is details of the Long Eaton v Berwick match which was declared void (44-34). All I've got is due to fuel issues but anyone know more about it ? Thanks again.
-
Yes please and you are correct regarding the score too. Thanks.

Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?
frenchy replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Snyper, no problem with you disagreeing. Whilst the bspa and promotors don't really help themselves they aren't the only reason why speedway is dying here. The reasons for British speedway running on the days it does have been gone over many times before and, I for one, don't really see an alternative other than to either run without the GP riders (and presumably the U21 GP riders too) - which has been tried and has failed, or to only have teams in the top division that CAN run on whatever night(s) you feel are available for British speedway. I was surprised that no one else seems to have picked up on the fact that next year British speedway (at ALL levels) will have to contend not only with the SGP GP's but also an U21 GP series. For next year this new series looks to consist of 3 rounds but as with the full blown thing I'm sure that they'll extend it up to 6 or 8 rounds within a couple of years. My primary concern with the introduction of an U21 series is the impact it could have not only on the EL but also on the, currently, reasonably healthy PL & NL. I suggest that if the FIM (thanks for that as I couldn't remember if it was the FIM or FIA) aren't careful then British speedway will die. You will say 'so what' but I would point out that no other country in the world is so keen on importing outside talent (especially youngsters) and developing them as Britain is. Without British speedway (which HAS to consist of viable League racing as, unlike the bulk of world speedway, that is what the British primarily prefer) then the rest will be in danger of collapsing. Apologies for this posting being off thread. On thread ,if its one Brit then I'd say Harris, if two then Harris and Woffinden (assuming they want to do it of course). -
Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?

Great !! even more disruption to racing in this country then next year and this time probably affecting the PL as well. Presumably SGP & the FI whatever are really looking to kill the sport off here.
