  1. Seriously, I quite enjoyed the 85 season, the racing was pretty decent, the track was decent too, apart from the dust. We had a good team too. Then Joe had his accident. Poor guy, a career ended right in front of us. Awful. 86 was different though, I think they'd taken the bends in to try and limit the stock car damage, but it didn't really help. As far as the team was concerned, it seemed like every rider was named Ian Stead. 😏
  2. That's why I hated it, that and the Greenhall's lager. 😂
  3. I always thought that Tom Evitts and Les Powell just gave up as they'd had enough of the stock cars leaving the track in a state. That name does ring a bell though.
  4. I think back then though it was used more to help young riders gain experience and develop rather than make up the numbers because there was a rider shortage.
  5. I think there was a fairly similar situation at Birmingham in 1986 at The Wheels. The season ended and then they didn't open in 87, that was it. I can't remember any mention of them not coming back, though the sands of time may have clouded my memory somewhat.
  6. Any room on the Apex Motorcross facility by M5 J6?
  7. Could have stuck them on the dog track on the back straight like the the first meeting back in 2007. What could possibly have gone wrong? 😱
  8. It's a shame that there's a feeling they're being put out of their misery, rather than going out with a bang. They definitely deserved the latter.
  9. It won't happen. If the biggest bike racing series in the world gets zero coverage, then how can you expect speedway to get any? Even the TT usually only appears in the press when a rider dies. It's been the same for as long as I can remember, it will never change.
  10. A sensible summation I'd say. 👍🏼
  11. Thought I'd tuned into the MX highlights for a minute there. Eek, that's messy.
  12. Has anyone asked the Poles if that want to base an U21 team over here? Could work.
  13. Oldest trick in the book and he fell for it. Oldest trick in the book and he fell for it. Oldest trick in the book and he fell for it. 👍🏼
  14. We're still debating topics that were yanking fans' chains 10, 20, 30+ years, probably longer, nothing changes, does it? The best thing to do is ignore everything going on in the background and watch the action on track, because there are plenty of former speedway fans who've walked away because the rules and the implementing of them, are a joke.
  15. So Birmingham have around 6 meetings left before the club disappears, maybe for good. Are you really serious or on the wind up?
  16. Well he won't have to ride there again, will he. I bet that's a real relief for the lad.
  17. Anyone fancy talking about *checks thread title* Birmingham Speedway? 🤔
  18. Any chance of a guest then? 🤔🤞🏼
  19. Start line cameraman has a bit of a shoe fetish tonight.
  20. I watched the GP late on and replayed his phone performance a few times, it took me a few views and the the TV volume on max to work out that he'd called her an effing c. I'm now officially offended to hear language like that on a family show. 😂
  21. World Superbike was the first major race series to feature a sprint race, which is known as the Superpole Race, the finishing order of which determines the grid positions for race 2. So F1 copied that just before MotoGP followed suit. TBH, the format works better on 2 wheels, but whether it'll be nothing more than a gimic in SGP remains to be seen.
