  1. 47-31 to the Hammers Cradley John Hart 7 Goog Allan 6 Leo Mcauliffe 5 Eric Hockaday 5 Ivor Hughes 4 Chris Julian 4 George Major 0. West Ham Sverre Harrfeldt 12 Ken Mckinlay 9 Malc Simmons 9 Norman Hunter 8 Brian Leonard 5 Tony Clarke 2 Reg Trott 2 That's what my programme says! Ken McKinlay won the second half from Sverre Harrfeldt with Norman Hunter third. Brian Leonard won the reserves second half event. A good night for the Hammers
  2. They certainly sound familiar...especially Leo McAuliffe, who, of course, rode for New Cross. By the way, do you mean Tim Bungay?
  3. How about Ronnie Moore? See Brian Burford's article in last week's Speedway Star.
  4. I only ever went to Cradley once and it was one of the happiest nights of my speedway life as it was the night West Ham completed the treble in 1965 - the first year of the British League. I can't remember any of the Cradley riders I'm sorry to say, but I can remember the West Ham team. (I'll look up the programme tonight and see who was riding for Cradley - unless anyone can tell me in the meantime.)
  5. I still want to know if my answer to Dick Dastardly's question is right! Come back, Jim.... Anyway, where's your question gone?
  6. They didn't have a home base. That's why they were called the Rovers. By the way, Jim, what's the answer to your question? The suspense is killing me!
  7. Thanks for ther memory there, Grachan. One of the all time great races. Ahem!
  8. Erik Gundersen? 1984 Longtrack other three 1985.
  9. OK, talking of Norwich and 1962...which rider made his debut for Norwich in 1960 scoring nil points from 4 matches, but in 1962 went to Belle Vue with the Stars and scored a 15 point maximum in a league match including two victories over Peter Craven on a night when Fundin scored just 4 points?
  10. Ove Fundin, Olle Nygren and Gote Nordin. Next. Correct Touche!
  11. Name the three Swedes who rode for Norwich in 1962
  12. Did you see the photograph of our old friend 'Crusty' Pye in last week's Speedway Star. He was on the right of the post-war Middlesborough team line up. Good to see he's been recognised at last.
  13. Not quite. We haven't discussed the merits of Eric Collins yet - rode for Wimbledon before the War. Was he as good as Neil? Or maybe Les?
  14. Wouldn't exactly stick my life on him being the best ever Norbold. But the Peter Collins of the mid-70s was definitely up there - he was magic. Yep, I'll go along with that.
  15. Don't know I'd go as far as most talented rider in the world ever, but certainly in the Collins family.
  16. Have you been converted at last then, Jim...er...Dick?
  17. In that case, I feel sorry for all the youngsters who never had a chance to see our Sverre in full flight. He was always worth the price of admission at Custom House on his own. Isn't that right CHK?
  18. The final score was indeed Manchester United 1 Ipswich 2
  19. Sverre Harrfeldt, Christer Lofqvist, Peter Collins, Ove Fundin, Aub Lawson (just makes it as he rode in 1960!), Boris Samorodov, John Cook, Michael Lee, Barry Thomas, Chris Julian.
  20. That's going to take a little more digging CC, but we'll come up with it sooner or later! I blame Peter Oakes for writing his history of the British League too early....
