Perhaps we could speak to the Epping Forest Visitor Centre and get them to reinstate High Beech for this new renaissance of speedway. At least the outline of the track is still there! -
All the more reason for him to take on the new underwater Peterborough track.
-
No it's for a new swimming pool and sports centre. Of course, Phil Morris might consider it as a possible venue…

Exactly that. One of the common themes on this Forum, not just this thread, is that promoters don't..er..promote the sport enough. They don't get enough publicity, they don't get sponsors, etc. Now, suddenly the one promoter who has been able to show what can be done in terms of publicity and gaining sponsorship is somehow the villain. I'm sure it must have been a very hard decision for Chris to walk away from the club that has been his life, the club that was his dad's life, the club they both loved. And, of course, as an Ipswich supporter myself I am very concerned about its future, but I cannot imaging for one second that this was an easy decision for Chris and that he is the reason why British speedway is failing. We need more promoters like Chris able to bring the supporters in and build good teams, not criticise him.

There is a lot of talk about teams like Belle Vue and Ipswich (if they run) having to "drop down" next season, but, of course, if the Premier League as it currently exists is no longer, the new single league will, de facto, be the top league, so, actually, it is a matter of the other teams moving up! It's just that the standard won't be so good. -

What an opportunity for well-known speedway enthusiast, Harry Redknapp, to step in, buy Ipswich and save our sport. -

It's going to be very easy for the promoters when they do eventually meet in January. They only have to read this thread and all will become very clear to them exactly what the fans want...er... -

That is true, though just a slight codicil: Ove Fundin came back and rode in the British League in 1966 and 1967, winning the World Championship in 1967. And in 1966, 1st, 2nd and 4th in the World Championship were all riding in the British League. -

Ove Fundin rode for Norwich in 1964 and Bjorn Knutson for West Ham. Also Barry Briggs (World Champion in 1964) rode for Swindon. -

And if you can't get along for any reason can you ask Bomber to replace you? -
As well as New Cross, I also remember him as a member of the West Ham side in 1964 and 1971. So I win, two teams to one! 😁
-
Perhaps Bomber wasn't available to guest until then?

Today is Reg Luckhurst's 90th birthday. He rode for New Cross in the first match I ever saw. 11 May 1960, a Britannia Shield match against Norwich. He won his first race (Heat 4) and became my instant hero. At the time, he was New Cross reserve but, of course, later went on to become one of England's leading riders, qualifying for the 1965 World Championship final. And then, of course, there was his recording career……

If there is to be no more TV coverage, I think we should spare a thought for poor old Kelv having to make do on a smaller income...
-
That seems a bit contradictory. If they wanted to line their own pockets, surely the best way would be to stop the sport going into decline?
-
It's a conspiracy theory, Bluey.

From some of the posts above, it looks like we could be losing a Russian but gaining a Rushen….
-
The article also says that the reason for going down to two teams is, "But with exciting changes to the league structure rumoured for 2026, the Spires will be discontinued, leaving the Cheetahs and the Charger..." Are they perhaps looking at there only being two leagues, i.e. an amalgamation of the top two leagues?

Grand Final 2nd leg Ipswich vs Leicester

Hopefully, if Dan Bewley does ride for Ipswich next year, he'll have learned to spell it correctly.😃
