Club Owned Speedway Sealed Engines...
Tsunami replied to Gresham's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Agreed. 1 Best engine picked by the worst rider, the best rider will be claiming his doesn't work, and will be borrowing the reserves engine. 2 Best rider has a poor night, he will blame the engine, and will want his points money topped up to compensate him. -
Every stadium could decide to kick speedway out if their prime industry gave them enough profit. At Brough and all the doggy stadiums, speedway helps them pay bills and keep them out of debt. Even with £0.5M from BAGS meetings, we are paying the rates and upkeep of the stadium through our stadium rent. Don't hold your breath waiting to be the new Glasgow, unless I win the lottery of course.
-
The stadium was bought out by a consortium of national bookmakers and who own the BAGS contract. It is that group that is refurbishing the main stand facilities at the present moment.

I certainly don't think that anybody would begrudged Robert a bit of R and R after all the massive crashes he has had in the last few weeks. Given he started with that broken scaffoid and has had heavy tumbles again last week at Brough, in the U-21 in Poland and this week in heat 15 at KL. He's lucky he is able to race at all.

That is a ridiculous statement to make. There are less 'free' people at the moment than ever before, but even previously your statement is way off the truth. There are people getting in free who should not be getting in, but it will always be a problem at any track.

Yes, they are all volunteers. The only person paid is the track curator for his expertise and the importance of his work. Other than that, all officials, red flaggers, pits gate personnel, dog track sheeters, marshals, etc, are volunteers. Each job needs to have a minimum number of people, but you try and get more to cover absences for sickness, holidays, occasions.etc. We are required to have 4 red flaggers, but I started this year with six as if they all turn up it is easier for everyone. We have had some who have left but we continue to look for and find new recruits to train and replace them. Don't forget it is more than just turning up for the meeting. Airfence personnel and sheeters are there during the day, return for the meeting and then have to remove the sheets and drop the airfence for the track to be ready for the dog racing for the stadium management. We are still there till after 10.00pm most meetings. We can't get access during the week to work on the track, as the stadium hosts BAGS meeting during the day, and as the pictures are transmitted in particular to the Far East for betting, we can't be seen working there as it does not look professional when selling the rights to film. So early morning Sunday is our first chance to get the track ready for the evening meeting. NB British Afternoon Greyhound Service Further Edit. Forgot to mention the renumeration package. Free programme and free admission for them and a friend. Anybody interested in it come and see me at the meetings.

Yes, and it's best not to know or speculate as there are genuine difficulties in this case.
-
A team from the Premier or Championship League have to pay the junior club a training fee before they can call the rider an asset. Everyone goes on about 'assets', when in fact it would be more appropriate to 'holding UK registration' cos that it all it is.

I think he was more than a bit pissed off. I was on the Pits gate and we could see the violent locker in the air by Wells, and Ludde had to depart quick as if he hadn't both of them would have been seriously injured. It was frightening to watch from the gate as Wells either deliberately or accidently reared and swayed toward the fence, closing the gap that Ludde was about to use to pass Wells. I think he got a hell of a shock, lost his speed and realised he was out of contention. Sensibly he careered around the back just in case someone came off and he would get a point.

You cant run a speedway meeting without track staff who would/were at the United game. Business sense not to run against United.
-
We are talking here about an alleged crap track that had consistently good race times.

It's a fallacy that lowering the admission by say 50%, means you will get over 100% increase in the gate levels. -

£26 per night. -
The idea this season of dropping back to 40 with changes was to dissuade promotions from wholesale changes. I wonder how many teams would have changed more, but decided for a simple one for one or just stuck by what they had. I think the latter would be Newcastle.

Nicki Pedersen Injured.
Tsunami replied to foamfence's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I really thought he would retire, but he obviously feels that Danish Speedway and TV viewing figures in his own country are suffering, and is using that to reason with himself that a comeback is necessary. I would give his comeback till the end of this year, and he will retire then I am sure. Rather than the persona that he has as a racer, he has another side to him that others don't see. -
Think it's you that needs to read it again. You state 'profit' of £5k, so surely you are implying all costs, including riders pay has been cleared. You also imply that the riders get a %age of the profits. By your reckoning, what do the riders get if there is no profit.?
