I think it only matters to fans who know they are guests, and it is not rammed down the throats of the viewers, who are both fans and/or potential fans. If I watch say an Ice Hockey meeting or a Basketball match, if those sports had guests in their teams, I would be watching the event, not making judgement of the legitimacy of one or more of the participants.

Not true. The riders you presumably are referring to are presumably the juniors in the National League teams, and who would significantly reduced the standard we currently enjoy. You can't please everyone of course, but the choice is Guests and DU's with current strength teams, or, raw riders getting stuffed and destroyed and all confidence lost, and seeing teams way below current stands. Averages would be farcical, given the same logic with the EL draft system, which was a success for a little while till the averages were wrecked.

Must admit I had to look at the program to see who was out with Robbo in heat 12. Different rider and flew past Robbo and/or a 5-1 for the Diamonds. Lets hope he can keep on progressing and fill the holes we have had in the reserves races. Ben up to scratch now and looking very safe. Despite a very makeshift team, Peterborough up to about halfway were not totally outclassed. But after that our 5-1's started to count to give us a healthy win. Bomber outgated in his early battles with Robert and Steve, but a class ride around the outside of Stevie on the forth bend was pure class and brave. Nobody would deny that he deserved the Julian Barnett Trophy for his guts and tenacity. I enjoyed the meeting but the result would been much closer with Holder in the Panthers ranks. It was a wee bit more than normal. Looking from the centre green it was healthy. Difficulty is it is now deceptive to judge, given that the full stands/bars are not open yet, so those fans are standing with the usual terrace crowd.

That was at the Newcastle Diamonds meeting at Ashfield, and I agree he looked very tanned and fit. He is a very good golfer and used to play in many big pro-ams, and I think he left the Manchester area to live in Spain. Always liked money, and after he quit speedway he was a financial adviser.

Which was the final meeting to celebrate the promotion of Newcastle United. It doesn't really matter if it was 12 or 1.30pm, the same practicalities were valid. Mad Max See above. I agree about the newer generation, as you have said big events are now held on big foreign tracks. But that is only true now, not in the history before that. Wembley being a tight track and high on the list for World Final, attracted many riders to come to the UK for the experience. The yanks always used to come here, and even my favourite Danes, always came here to get more meetings on the small tracks, even though they had some themselves. The UK tracks have been regular training grounds for riders having aspirations to be on the world stage, and competition against like minded riders.

Yes it was SL, and meant to be more in line with other federations trying to get fixtures out earlier. In addition, it is years since the AGM was not held in the UK.

Batchelor didn't walk out.. he had a medical certificate. Although for being abusive to British speedway on Twitter this afternoon, I hope it does signal the end of his British speedway career. Other Kings Lynn riders went out and did ride after the track prep... Holder is the only one who didn't, hence the ban. He walked out and got ready to go, and was warned he still had not completed his third ride after running through the tapes earlier. He knew the risks, and he is getting the deserts he deserves.

Too true they will. Seems strange to get to August and still not met Redcar at home. It's just been unfortunate for BSPA reasons, so no naughty avoidance by Newcastle.

The running of the meeting was conducted by a SCB referee, not Buster, and he was the one that dished out the original penalty to the twice refusal to ride by Holder. That would be contained in the report of the meeting and the Ref Darren Hartley, would have dealt with Lambert and Huckenbrack on the night. But congrats on your rant.

Actually that is how it is done in Japan for their form of speedway on a hard bowl surface. Riders and bikes are kept in cages on the centre green and allocated by a draw. The sport of course is just for betting on, and hence the reason why the need to give the allocation some sort of random credibility in the eyes of the punters.
