  1. Point of information: In keeping with the nature of Sundays in general, Millsy's engine was somewhat holy after yesterday's meeting looking at the piccy he tweeted earlier! Ever a trooper though, I see he's riding tonight
  2. Suffering from a tummy virus Friday, didn't have a good match at Lakeside last night, couldn't find a hotel room in Luton last night after receiving late call up to ride in Poland today so slept on Airport departure lounge floor, early flight to Poland and wins first race! Typifies what a crazy world speedway riders live in!
  3. Who can name the team (and year) that a UK league side were given unique individual nicknames by their promoter who dubbed himself "Gaffer?" And if you can do that please go on and clarify which rider he named "Hammer," "Rawhide," "Bronco," "The Kid," "Bad Dog," "Maverick," and "Shotgun."
  4. We're just about to set off from sun-drenched Kent for Saddlebow Road and hope weather will be the same when we get here. With due apologies to those concerned, if you were thinking of bringing Bertha along with you then please don't!
  5. MY MISTAKE! (put it down to lack of kip! ) for the Workington match was the one I was thinking of! Time for bed Zebedee!
  6. Are you referring to the 65-12 victory recorded by Crayford over Exeter under the old 13 heat format at London Road?
  7. Providing the other four of Kent's top five all ride on Monday it'll be R/R to cover for Simon as he's second, behind Ben Morley, in the Kings' August averages.
  8. Sitting here at home in Erith (just across the Thames from the track) at 5.15pm, it's been and still is raining for the last quarter of an hour or so. Luckily we haven't been hit though by the heart of the storm that this rain is obviously part of with rolls of thunder seemingly a little way away. From memory the doors were able to be opened in that way for that particular meeting Mr Stummings thanks to a five figure sponsorship deal for the meeting. Do you honestly think that level of meeting sponsorship (allowing for an increase thanks to costs of staging meetings in 2014 are a lot more than back in those days) is available now? PS: 17.32pm and STILL raining here (see above). PPS: Stopped raining here 17.45pmish - sun briefly broke through but dark clouds I can see in the distance appear to be heading this way.
  9. I figured that whistlegang but I'm sure there are others on this forum who would go into raptures at having something else to moan about as they normally do. Now coming up to 3pm and we'll be heading home shortly - hope there's something to eat in my fridge!
  10. Having been here at the track since 11.30am and thankfully with the BTengineer having got the phonline working again, with respect to "whistlegang" I believe the call off decision was correct. Why? Because from 1pm until circa 1.40pm we suffered heavy, and I stress HEAVY, rain here thanks to a storm overhead. MORE such storms are forecasted for the area between now and 8pm.
  11. See my subsequent posting to the one you've quoted "westhamboy66". I stand by what I said and accept you obviously don't agree.
  12. Indeed we do ALL have the freedom to choose how we spend our money and I full accept that, of course, it's entirely up to you whether you attend tomorrow or not. My own feelings are that I envisage a closely fought match between two teams of roughly equal strength (at least on paper but we all know it's on track that matters!) with each side containing a rider riding in this year's Premier League and not in the NDL. Other riders I'm really looking forward to seeing in action in the match apart from Adam, Ben and club asset Jack Kingston, are the trio of Arron Mogridge, Connor Coles and Luke Chessell - the only trouble being I'm old enough to have seen their respective dads race goodness knows how many times! Adult admission HAS been reduced and the admission cost for ALL children of school age will be just a quid the press release goes onto state. I don't know but I suspect we won't have a 'full monty' normal programme and there'll be a reduced cost edition for those wanting to buy - it's not compulsory to do so is it? Money will still have to be found to cover stadium hire, the cost of medical cover, insurance, referee's fee and other fixed costs. I'm looking forward to it and would hope that there are a lot more other folk who are too.
  13. I've heard speedway promoters nationwide get blamed for many things by some people posting on the BSF over the years, but I think you've created a first! You seem to be inferring in your post that the Lakeside promotion should further reduce the admission price for this meeting because of the costs of using the Dartford crossing to get to the track from south of the River Thames, set by the French firm that run it. You don't HAVE to use the Dartford crossing do you? You could use the Woolwich Ferry, the Rotherhithe Tunnel or the Blackwall Tunnel for example, all of which are free but I suppose you'd blame Lakeside for the cost of extra fuel used going via any of those!
  14. Because without that info AJiK I couldn't truthfully answer the question as to whether or not things HAD improved in respect of the PA system since you were there! All I can now say is that no one came up to the officials box on Monday to pass any adverse comment so I'm pretty confident it has! PS: Awaiting someone to now post that there were no adverse comments passed on the subject in question because no one could hear what I was saying!
  15. Re No.5 on your list, what was the last match you attended at Central Park then AJiK?
  16. "Club needs a big uplift..." you say - so what would you suggest?
  17. Re the time span of the meeting might I suggest that with both sides operating rider replacement, riders having two rides on the trot between heats 1&2, 3&4, 5&6 (two riders doing so on this occasion), 7&8, 8&9 and 11&12 leading to extra time being allowed for the riders involved as is the norm; six heats requiring re-runs (heats 2 & 8 both requiring two re-starts); And lengthy necessary on-track medical attention being given to Nathan Greaves following his high-speed crash in 9 were all contributing factors towards heat 15 and the Bronze Helmet match race both falling victim to the strict 8.30pm curfew. "Oh what a night" as the the opening line of a big hit of yesteryear goes!
  18. Although I was there, my memory of the White City meeting is somewhat hazy (to say the least!) thanks to ageing process but I've a feeling that the riders from both sides due out in the opening heat had problems getting to the track caused by heavy traffic as did reserves who weren't ready - hence the 2mins exclusions galore! Last night's 0-0 at Central Park was the first time EVER I've witnessed, or indeed had to announce the result of a heat that saw four riders starting it and none finish it with any points!
  19. For starters you haven't got any airfares to subsidise or pay for to get foreigners here in the first place have you? Let me stress I personally am NOT against foreign riders in the Premier League but I do wonder at times if there are too many especially when you consider that there are seven teams who, between them only have 14 Brits in their sides.
  20. Do you not think that your own club Peterborough might be in a better financial position if you didn't have five foreign riders in your declared 1 to 7?
  21. Just under 60% of riders in this year's Premier League aren't British? Discuss
  22. Looking forward to announcing at this meeting but not looking forward to rising from my pit at a ridiculously early hour on a Sunday for the meeting that starts at noon! Haven't got a lift yet so if I were to have to go by train I'll probably have to catch the 8.55am (OMG!!!) from Dartford, getting to Sittingbourne circa10.15am and arranging a lift from there to Iwade. Dreading that but needs must I suppose UNLESS, perchance, there's some incredibly generous person out there going to the meeting as well with a spare seat in their vehicle (doesn't have to be a Rolls or Bentley as far as I'm concerned!) travelling via the Dartford crossing that they might let me have and who I could link up with at Junction 1A on the M25 (immediately after the toll booths)? Whatever way my heartfelt plea goes, I'm looking forward to the event - it'll be a fun day for sure!
  23. "SLIGHTLY different format to normal???" Great Central.
  24. You have my sympathy Chris / other mic men at UK speedway tracks because whatever action is taken / not taken in response to one moan will lead to a counter moan from another source! We all DO try our best but as Abraham Lincoln once famously said (although even I am not old enough to remember him doing so! ) “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”
  25. Methinks you're banging your head against a brick wall "Gustix" as some people who post on the BSF seem to me to do so solely to moan/whinge about anything they can! Guess they must get their kicks from doing so!
