The Dilemma Of Greg Hancock
Grand Central replied to Grand Central's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I quite agree. It's all the 'fun of the fair'. It has been the long winded 'justifications', on both sides, 'that have amused me so much. If I had put a bet on that you could start a thread about Greg Hancock and get 27 pages in a couple days; the odds would have been 1000/1. Let's keep up the PR push before Cardiff. Just a pity I can't make it this year ! -

So ... I'm unsure. If this information is to help the debate. Does it mean we should be applauding Greg, or not. Even having got it off his chest; is it still OK for him to thump Nicki at Cardiff, If his 'memories' get the better of him? Or can the others have a 'pop' if they happen to fall off within 'blame distance' of Nicki? -

Let's see if I can get this right, for my own understanding. Quite a few people who think that 'Greg was in the right' to land one on Nicki; seem to be saying ... It is a totally natural response for a 'victim' to lash out at the 'assailant' in the heat of the moment, without much thought. Yet the same people, it would seem, are simultaneously saying ... Nicki had this coming to him, lots of riders who been knocked off by him had been chatting about doing worse for ages, and that Greg had some 'premeditated justification' for attacking him as the 'representative of the collective'. A proxy thump from them all as soon as the opportunity arose. So one has it heat of moment, the other premeditated. Very different concepts. Morally, and in law. I know Greg seems to struggle with this paradox in his own statement. Can we help him. Which is it? . -

I am getting more and more disturbed by this attitude. As you were happy to define the terms of on-track revenge you have had the terrible misfortune to witness. Sick to the stomach, I understand. I wonder what level of off-track revenge that riders should take out on each other that you advocate as appropriate. And what dystopian world you wish to create. -

And why not have the tactical option of putting your 'best' as reserve if that suits. I just don't see what detriment that woukd create, that we want to stop. The tactics involved would at least give Tatum and Pearson something to talk about. -

Do not put words into my mouth. You used the word retribution. And you stated that you felt it should happen off track. I still find that both startling and dusturbing. -

Swc...3-man Teams And R/r.

Why over complicate matters so much. Just have a reserve. Teams having a reserve that can be used at a Team Managers discretion has served the Sport very well for decades and decades. BSI must be the first promoters to ever consider trying to run a meeting without reserve options. They are a given and a necessary expense. Not an easy way to cut costs; as has now been proved. -

As original poster I want to register my anger at the thread title and my first post being altered against my wishes by a moderator. It changes completely the nature of how I wanted this thread to be discussed. Disgusting action on the mods part. -
The dilemma of Ole Olsen. One of the founding fathers of the SGP, Race Director, promoter and Track curator. Even I, who have never been able to stand the man, recognise that the SGP as we know it today just would not exist without him. But ... After Warsaw ... After Vojens ... Removing the covers; even watering the track against the Race Directors advice on Saturday afternoon ! ! Now the PZM want nothing to do with him again How much longer can he relied upon in such measure ? Is he still up to it ? But then the success of 2015 is almost totally in his hands. He has to get Cardiff right in new circumstances. Then the new Danish venue of Horsens ... a big name venue without a roof. And then pull off Melbourne. It would be a big ask for anyone. What to do with the man?

.Mind you, if she is anything like her brother. From what I hear, BSI won't get an extra penny as she'll buy the ticket from a tout! PS. I am a happy hypocrite, as we do the same most years. But don't spread it around. . -

Some people have got really quite 'hot under the collar' at times. And a little over analytical and serious on the subject. I, actually, cannot get beyond the comedic potential of the whole incident. This was not a serious on track happening. We all, if we are honest, have seen much much worse go unpunished. Hans Nielsen based an entire career on closing out a rider on the outside in similar positions. And he still has a good reputation with most. Though probably not with Kelvin Tatum. The assault by the 'The Hitman Hancock' really was no Mayweather attack, not even a Pacquiao. More Norman Wisdom doing his comedy run before unexpectedly jumping on a bewildered Mr Grimsdale. For me,. The latest amusing part came out of Greg's wonderful statement. I wonder if it is possible to write with crayons and still get it published online by a grown up? Possibly Wilbur helped? My interest was really drawn to Greg's idea of parenting. He, rather prudishly, feels it quite out of order for his children to be subjected to a rude hand gesture. And you can read how upset they would be by Nicki's naughty finger, as they saw it. But apparently it is quite OK for his kids to see their own father behave like a right prat In front of several thousand people. And, at least try, to deliberately injure another person with violent action. And that is just fine in 'The Handbook of Parenting' according to Greg. Bizarre. I think I should contact Mumsnet.- 699 replies

It has become a regular feature of a Greg Hancock success. We must marvel not only at his success; we are reminded of his greatly advanced age. And how 'remarkable' it is that a 45 year old can ride a motorbike well. Just like someone 20 years younger. After reading his extraordinary statement. I find it remarkable that a 45 year old could write like that. Just like someone 40 years younger. -

I hear that Greg has been fined 5000 Swedish Kroner. Which at current exchange rates is under £400. Or the price of a pint of Lager, a glass of wine and three sodas. In downtown Hallstavik ! . -

Thankfully, quite a few of us can 'look on the brightside' over side. Take it for it's comedic value. Greg Hancock being compared to a cagefighter ! The steel-shoe mincing down the track ahead of the worst wrestling move since Ken Walton presented it on World of Sport. And joy of joys. That paragon of virtue DW enters into the fray, long-distance, to have a foul-mouthed digital bust up with NP. Just the 'right move' when his ban is just days from it's end. This has brightened my week up no end ! -

Like many people , I imagine, I find myself in two conflicting minds. Should we condemn the act of violence committed by 'The Grin' this evening. Conduct prejudicial to the Sport, terrible role model, and all the Politically correct tosh. Or Jump and cheer and rejoice. In one single act he quadruples the interesting things he has ever done. And, after all, he has clobbered Nicki Pedersen. And who wouldn't want to do THAT given half a chance! --------------------------------- Add by Admin... I imagine you are right. It's just that the principle of federations picking and choosing which parts of a CDI they implement is not one the FIM would want to encourage. Sets a dangerous precedent. Especially when they are getting all high and mighty with the Russians, of all people. . -
My god they really ARE worried after Warsaw. Belt and Braces time. No argument it makes an awful lot of sense with so much riding on success..

Clearly the results are not going to be changed because the SCB have decided against doing so. Graham Reeve made a public statement on that some time ago. Just moving the discussion on. Does anyone know what the procedure is that the FIM take against an FMN (in this the ACU who devolve control of Speedway to the SCB) When the subordinate bureau unilaterally decide to go directly against FIM CDI rulings?
