Leicester V Belle Vue Saturday 11.04.15
oldace replied to barrow boy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You can get tablets for that nowadays -
No to be fair he has a point. The windows in my house are now filthy and I can hardly see through them. I have a window cleaner but he is making a total p!ss poor job of them. Problem is I am not good with heights so I couldn't do better myself so therefore I have no right to complain so I just have to put up with them. This having to be better than the professionals at anything before you can criticize is a bit of a bitch tbh

Well yes, can't argue on that one. Ridiculous to call the countries top leage Elite. It could be worse though, imagine if they called the second tier "premier" league
-
A lesser intelligent version of Sidney, if such a thing were possible

Once you read the "can you better" line then you know you are dealing with a wally. Not even worth getting into a discussion with

Going with your assertion that BSI should be filtering money to the leagues. The SGP makes around 1.5 to 2 million a year profit. If they were to give all of it away in a straight 3 way split between the three main countries can you tell me what difference it would make here. It would amount to approx £25,000,00 per club per year. A mere fraction of the money they have managed to fritter away from SKY each year. Speedways problems cant be fixed with a small cash injection here and there, that's just sticking plasters over gaping wounds -

For nothing ? BSI pay the FIM handsomely for the rights to the SGP. It isn't the job of BSI to help our league, they are a commercial organisation out to make a profit. If you think money should filter down to the leagues then it is the FIM who appear to be trousering millions on the back of the SGP without giving anything back (I know they pay the prize money) -

Yeh but she is from Kings Lynn. If it didn't make the Farmers Guardian or Morris Dancers weekly she wouldn't have seen it -

Well you could argue it gets mega prime time Saturday night exposure every two weeks but yes, essentially they get nothing. What though prevented to three big leagues getting together 20 odd years ago and running the GPs (or whatever form of world championship) and making the money themselves. Our promoters cant even organise a league season let alone a World Championship "Where possible, it is recommended that riders and FIM Officials stay in the same hotel. Provided that no other agreement or arrangement has been made by the organiser, the riders, managers, FMN Officials, etc. are themselves responsible for booking or reserving their own hotel requirements directly with one of the official hotels specified in the SR, according to the given deadline or with an alternative hotel of their choice. The organiser is responsible for the possibility of each rider to book a minimum of 2 double rooms within the specified deadline. Name, address, telephone, fax number, price of rooms, deadline for booking etc. of a minimum of 2 official hotels must be clearly specified in the SR" Basically BSI will source accomodation but you pay it yourself except in the case of the southern hemisphere GPs -

Also theres is additional money for the GPs in the southern hemisphere As of last year the GP winner earned $12,000 down to $1,000 for the meeting reserve. This has to cover travel accommodation etc -

All this has been gone over before, it is not difficult. A local promoter pays to host a GP. That promoter keeps the gate receipts. The FIM pay the riders and BSI get TV, sponsorship money etc. -

Well, you know if it wasn't a PZM event, it kind of opposite to that. When he says "its a PZM event", put simply what he means is "its a PZM event" -
What are you talking about, I was agreeing with you. I thought "Crayford Reunion" were a pop group who had sponsored a rider and had been listed in the programme instead of the rider they sponsored. That sort of thing has been known to happen in the past you know
-
Another case of a thread title not giving any indication what the thread is about. Maybe if there is a Crayford Reunion on the 13/04/2015 Bryn could have incorporated those words into his title.

Not one bit of that explains why British Speedway is presented and promoted as bad as it is. I dont need to go into the politics of it all to know that (in the main) a night at the SGP is is a good night out. It is a well presented, colorful with the right music and the feel of 2.5 hours solid entertainment. None of the reasons above explain why Elite league speedway is like a night at the local Darby and Joan club. The simple fact that so many over 60s like it tells you something is badly wrong. Packaged and presented as it should be to attract the right audience it would very quickly lose its appeal to the pensioers with their sandwiches, deck chairs and flasks The classic (and I know used many times) example is what Barry Hearn did with darts. The old BDO was very like speedway now, old folk knitting in the front row, no noise, no atmosphere, a very much going nowhere sport. Hearn took it by the scruff of the neck and re invented whole package. To most existing fans it was abhorrent and they wanted nothing to do with it. But they were not the audience being targeted and the new, younger audience lapped it up in their thousands. I am aware a sport requiring a hired in venue and a dart board is much easier to re brand but if the Elite league carries on with its policy of just upping admission to account for lost fans then it is doomed -

Is that a real question? Just watch a GP then watch a typical Elite league match and you will have your answer. One is a well organised, well presented event in stadia not straight out of the 1950s providing a value for money night out. The other is an exercise in how not to present a sports event at a cost no way commensurate with whats on offer. I am sure even you can work out which is which -
I posted something a few weeks back on the same thing. The four valvers were a completely different ride to a 2 valve Jawa because of the massively increased revs. In the hands of inexperienced riders 4 valvers caused many accidents but with experience they are easier (and safer to ride). On a two valve machine probably 80% of the rear wheel speed = mph whereas on a 4 valver it is a lot lower %. This meant the throttle didn't react at all like it did on a two valve machine. On mid bend if you knocked the throttle back on a two valve Jawa you stopped pretty darn quick. Do the same on a Weslake and the immediate reaction to shutting the throttle is a momentary increase in forward momentum as that excess rpm gets a grip and drives the bike forward

Where is young Sidney anyway, not copped another ban has he? No doubt Mother Theresa will be along in a minute to tell us the Gospel according to Ian, we could be looking at detention for this lot
-
Maybe for the full the Sidney impression I should have threatened to punch his lights out, that would have been the giveaway
