Ipswich Vs Glasgow Thursday 14th May 7.30 Pm
Super Blue replied to CardinalSin's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I really don't see why it took so long to be called off , anyone living around here could have told you it was never going to happen from mid afternoon ! Mind you I suppose they can't win with us fans , the Rye home meeting in march was called off at lunchtime when it turned out there wasn't a drop of rain after that time and now this situation . Obviously they want to give themselves as much opportunity to get it on as possible and get some money in but they really do go from one extreme to the other . Im sure some people would have already been travelling by 6-00pm when the news finally broke , we can only make the assumption it was the ref who made the decision . -

We all know that Foxhall has its own microclimate but is it seriously that much better there than anywhere else in Ipswich? I've never seen a meeting go ahead with this much rain about! -

Yeah, I'm not really expecting to see any speedway tonight. I'm also hoping nobody is gonna be travelling any great distance given the forecast. -

To be fair I don't think anybody is going to be riding , every single weather forecast has a humongous amount of the wet stuff moving across southern England throughout the whole day . Usually you can gain some optimism if you look hard enough but I certainly can't find any ! -

Back to the meeting , the weather forecasts are distinctly less than promising , at least 3 of the 4 I've checked basically predict rain , rain and more rain . Should it go ahead however I would imagine it could well be a tight meeting with Glasgow at least getting something out of it , although a few of the Witches are likely to be feeling they have something to prove after their last home performance . Should be a good one. -
Going by Mondays performance at home to Sheffield the Witches only had 2 riders even remotely capable of winning races and they are both missing . So given the assumption that tactical rides are still not allowed in the KO cup I predict that something more in the region of a 30 point lead is the most likely outcome ! Unless the remaining lads get their backsides into gear I can only see Berwick progressing over the two legs myself .

It's a good job this forum was off line as I'd have probably have got myself banned for bad language towards the referee ! It was however a shocking performance by the majority of the Witches and Sheffield were fully deserving of their victory . It wasn't helped by alot of movement at the starts , the ref should have recalled several of the early heats and although there's no such rule as first bend bunching a bit of common sense should have prevailed when riders fell after said contact , and the decision to exclude Rohan when Morris locked up in front of him brought the refs incompetence to new depths ! I was beginning to think Barbara Horley had taken her wig off and become Mick Bates the decisions were that bad ! At the forum afterwards there was much discussion about not being mentally tough enough yesterday and the obvious disappointment of losing , the poor track conditions and also questions were asked about Ritchies problems and Cam's form being so hit and miss at Foxhall . -

Im sure the track will be as good as it always is for a bank holiday afternoon meeting , no further comment required me thinks . -

After seeing how well Sheffield did at Somerset I'm also beginning to think that nothing less than a big home win would be acceptable . Would expect Danny and Rohan to both get a hat full of pts . Cam to get a few but very hit and miss at Foxhall . Not sure how Nico will respond having moved up to a main team place . Anyone know if Gino is likely to make his comeback on Monday ? His fitness could be a crucial factor to the overall outcome . Ritchie and Stefan both ought to be a decent shout for good point returns but who knows quite where Ritchie's head will be ? Would be nice to get a few league points on the board and get the season proper up and running ! -
I also think Ritchie will turn it around and hopefully that will be by scoring a bagfull of points from reserve . At the moment though , as well as obviously his head not being in the right place im not sure his equipment is up to much either , it just seems like he's got no speed . Perhaps Chris Louis can sort it out ?
-
Which can of course end up costing things like not getting any trophy's ! Having said that loyalty in both directions is an admirable quality to have .
-
No doubt Morten will find his form against us though and Plymouth will probably have strengthened their team with some changes by then . Mind you , apart from the creditable draw at Somerset we've had our own issues away from home with some riders seriously underperforming.
-
Well , an away defeat at Sheffield by 7pts achieved with 4 riders performing . They can certainly hold their heads up with pride ! Ritchie's form or lack of it ought to be becoming a major concern to the promotion by now , if it isn't it should be ! He not achieving anything , home or away and not beating many reserves either . I know that's his new position from 1st May and he's been injured but he really should be scoring alot better than he is , actually even a few points would be nice ! Rohan seems to be a real Jeckyl and Hyde rider , virtually unbeatable especially at home or shocking , nothing inbetween ! If either of them had got half their average we would have at least got a point or even won . When Gino returns he needs to hit the ground running as they say and not a have poor series of scores . We can't afford to be carrying passengers for too long .

Effectively a 4 man team got within 7 points of Sheffield , we might even have won if just 1 more rider had come to the party ! Ah well , hopefully revenge will be sweet on Monday . -

Well I seem to get more pleasing results for me when I work with reverse logic . Having predicted a huge home win for Somerset when the Witches went there and getting it totally wrong I now predict a comfortable home win for the Tigers ! Alot however will depend I think on a few things , Sheffield have more than adequate cover tonight for the very unfortunate injured Steady and Bellego . Will they come back more determined after last weeks home defeat ? How well will Danny King do tonight against the Cookie monster ? Witches still using rr for Gino , could that work in our favour ? Will Nico have a big say before moving out of the reserve position at the weekend ? Tonight will tell , weather permitting of course . -
There might be an odd one here and there who don't want to guest for us , although Cookie loves Foxhall as he's proved time and time again . He'd earn plenty of money . I think it's more about whether our promotion wants to pay that kind of money out !
-
Does anyone know the situation if we get a draw at Plymouth in the league cup ? We currently have a slightly better race points difference than Rye but a draw in our final match would leave us with a lower pts 'for' tally . So is it race pts total or difference that decides who goes through ? Just thinking ahead here , I know a win is required but should it be a draw I haven't managed to find a rule that says what happens ?
-
So as we suspected , Ritchie and Nico swap places . Hopefully Ritchie can find some confidence from the reserve position and get some points on the board . If Nico can keep his gating going and his equipment good we may score more than just 3-3's from his partnership with Danny .
