One that sticks in my mind was Nottingham's trip to Middlesbrough's in 1980,mike Sampson scored an 18 point maximum in a 50_28 defeat.

Enjoyed watching these matches,made better by mike hunter IMO the best speedway commentator of all time,with stoke closing down in way of a tribute the Edinburgh v stoke 1986 match would be nice to see again.

Surprised nobody has mentioned mike Sampson,I remember him taking out tony Boyle in 1980 at stoke,the next season we signed him and there were many a fight in the pits that season after robust riding from samo.

I could see a good 100 or so stoke fans going over to Buxton if they came back into the nl.

That Workington side was in the old second division,what's now known as the championship.

You have a good memory,that comets team was probably the worst team in national league history.

I started going in 1980,I remember that afternoon robbo rode for the comets,and bastable rode three match races in the second half great memories.

Terrible meeting gate and go,all the riders off gate 4 might as well not bothered.it was that bad I turned over at 8 and watched Eurovision.

Brave decision to run this meeting ,when the the final day of the premier league football season starts at the same time.

Never mentioned tony once,Erik won 3 world titles ,2 long track world titles,12 pairs and team cup gold medals,and for his injury would have won many more,also Erik was a much better gated than woffinden .
