After a disastrous couple of months, with only ONE home Saturday PL fixture reaching a 15-heat conclusion since Ipswich's visit on May 17th (ten weeks ago) Berwick will surely get their Shielfield season back on track this Saturday with a new month bringing a visit from the always-entertaining Tigers and their ever-resiliant travelling fans. Weather woes must be crippling the Bandits financially, yet on-track performances (other than at Armadale) are their best for years, proving the wisdom of constructing such a solid squad. The Tigers' fans have their bright young things (Thomsen, Berge and Lykke) to savour, and with Berwick coming to the meeting after two matches on the road at Ipswich and Scunthorpe will be hoping that something can be taken from the night. NB: At the time of writing, Berwick have already lost FIFTEEN fixtures (five home, ten away) to the weather with three months of the season still to go. Costing the promotion thousands of unrecoverable pounds. Who'd be a speedway promoter?

When the Bandits have their own seven riders on track (as they will on Thursday) they can be dependably solid. They have already scored 49 at Workington, 52 at Plymouth, 50 at Redcar and 52 at Glasgow, collecting 4-point away wins each time. With seven matches in hand, Berwick are just four points below Ipswich in this morning's PL table, and seem nailed-on for a top-six finishing place, probably above the Witches in the finishing order. Downside is that I don't think the Bandits have achieved any kind of result on Foxhall Heath since a draw there in 1990. Should be good!

Saturday, August 2nd is definately Berwick v Glasgow Tigers.

Well, Mr Panther, at least Rye House fans know they have a dependable promoter, aren't likely to go bust (yet again) or call meetings off without valid explantations. Clubs' on-track fortunes wax and wane, but at the end of the day, it's the ability to open up each week, each year......

A note to wobbly memories about the (excellent) Sky meeting at Berwick last season. "Nigel and Kelvin" most certainly didn't make anything of it at all, as the presenters were Nigel and Chris. Who did indeed do a great job. Mr Tatum didn't make a return to Berwick, and we will have to await August 12th to find out if he'll be on hand this time around.

Good question. Apart from putting up extra posters, and having extra catering for the bigger attendances, nothing! Presentation is more or less the same, although Sky Sports might ask for changes. The earlier suggestion that there are wholesale changes for the bigger meetings doesn't really stack up.

According to club's press release, Ulrich Ostergaard is on stand-by to guest for Bandits if Claus Vissing fails a fitness test.

From last night's e-Newsletter: With this being a special weeknight event, the club will be reducing admission prices across the board to a flat £10 for all adults, with children up to sixteen entering free as usual. We will be pushing the boat out on August 12th, making every effort to put on the best-possible show at the best-possible price and building on Sky Sports' belief in our abilities to provide the company with what they said they were so happy with last time -- a big attendance, our clean and bright stadium, crisp presentation and close racing. As we have done for other big events, we will have a supply of posters and fliers in the Track Shop -- hopefully from Saturday forwards -- for everyone and anyone to pick up and stick up, all over the area! With reduced admission, and the Monarchs back in town, this televised speedway feast has to be made available to everyone, in and out of town!

If his excellent 10+1 from four rides on Thursday was Steen Jensen struggling, heaven help the opposition when he gets going. Fully agree Liam Carr is a keeper, those who seek to dump him have little grasp of reality. But Doug Templeton's name surprises me, as he was 44 years old when he joined the club in the twilight of a great career. Maybe you meant Wayne Brown? Another rider who Berwick gave an extended run to at an early part of his career was Kevin Little. Liam to stay, indeed after three four-pointers away from home, madness for fans-with-calculators to propose any changes just "because we can". Leave well alone, please!

Well, as Berwick haven't yet sent out a press release about next Saturday's match, we'll have to expect that, when they do it will accurately explain David Bellego's situation to editors, etc. What was quoted (in my opening post on this thread) was the club's e-Newsletter, which is a service to subscribed supporters, not to media. As the rider's absence on July 19 had already been notified to these same fans by the e-Newsletter service as far back as mid-June, perhaps this item about Edinburgh's run (and the attraction of seeing it hopefully ended) can be allowed to stand up for what it clearly is -- a cheerful item, just one of several stories in the club's regular service to their followers? Those marvellous Monarchs have gone 23 matches unbeaten, and will beat Workington next week at Armadale to make it 24. But then..... (this from Berwick's e-Newsletter last night, setting the stage) THE MONARCHS ARE COMING! We have to admit the Edinburgh Monarchs are the team of the season -- so far! The capital crew have now racked up 23 matches this year, and remain unbeaten with 22 victories and a draw. With one home match coming up, the Monarchs are aiming to extend their run to 24 -- but meeting No 25 is at Shielfield Park on Saturday week, July 19th. It will be the first leg of the KO Cup quarter-final -- and the eyes of the speedway world will be on Berwick, awaiting news of Edinburgh making it a quarter of a century. Aye, right! What better incentive for our New Holland Bandits than to be the first team to beat Edinburgh Monarchs in 2014? Not just that, but beating them by a big enough margin to see us through to the semi-final! That's unbeaten Edinburgh coming to Berwick in eleven days' time -- be there!

Your post is reasoned, although it might be argued that if fit, Matej Kus would probably continue to be a potent reserve and equal any scoring Thomas Jorgensen may achieve tonight. Berwick should not be thought to be pushing rules to gain advantage, to lose their high-scoring reserve for three meetings is a body-blow. The SCB rules state a non-speedway injury (Kus was taken ill on Saturday, not injured) requires a seven-day recovery period and medical clearance has to be obtained before riding again (in an SCB/BSPA event). Racing in a domestic event overseas, while foolhardy (and when were speedway riders ever else?) is outwith the authority of the SCB/BSPA, and our own regulations still require his being re-examined and declared fit before he can resume riding here. The Berwick e-Newsletter explains he has spoken to Ian Rae this morning, and is not feeling 100% (little wonder, if he tried riding last night while under the weather) and therefore must stand down. Clearly, he is not yet fit and should not resume as yet. Tough for Matej, and for the Bandits, but safer for all concerned.

Not dodgy at all. Under the 7-day medical regulation, he has to be signed off as fit to resume before he can race again in Britain. He obviously isn't. Incidentally, Ales Dryml had his full allocation of rides at Peterborough last night, but has withdrawn from their team for next three days. Interesting things happen.
