Innsbrück News: The Jury will have a track inspection at 12.30pm CET where a decision on today's racing will take place. From all accounts, it's not looking promising as yet! Jacqueline suggested it was "Gelsenkirchen On Ice!"
-
Just spoke to Jacqueline who was at the track. The ice was only 7-8cms deep so they are turning the meeting from a 2 day into a single day using the Saturday race card. From what I understand there are lots of red faces in Austrian Motorsport today!
-
I understand that all is not well in Innsbrück! From Jacqueline in Innsbrück, the track caused Practice to be abruptly halted, when large lumps broke off and exposed the base. The riders held a meeting with the referee and from all accounts it is looking doubtful, as it unlikely that they can lay 10 cms of Ice before the meeting tomorrow. Coupled with the fact it is 10'C and raining which the freezing equipment at the track can't cope with. More news when I get it. EDITJust had a look on the German Forum. There will be a Jury Meeting at 2pm CET tomorrow (Sat) to decide if it will be on or off

The post about Malinen on the Russian Forum was a couple of weeks ago, Joni pointed out that meeting clashed with the Team Championship and that many of the riders would country before this championship, which is why Malinen was mentioned. I don't think the teams had been finalised at that point, but I may be wrong (and frequently am ). Kaminski rode on a Ukraine licence at St. Johann and is credited as Ukrainian in all the documentation, although he is Russian. Hence the comments about him "turning" to the Ukraine, and stirring up anti Uraine passions amongst some of the posters Interesting point, all the Russians in this meeting are under 21, whilst if you are not Russian you have to be under 25. I take your point about Sweden, but could we not allow Brits to be under 45 (sorry Mark )? Yes the meeting is a joke, and once again the UEM have scheduled one of their meetings opposite a major FIM meeting, then wonder why it won't be a success. Last year the comments were basically why watch the Russian Junior Championship with a couple of foreigners? They are basically the same again this year. Plus why trek half way across Russia to be watched by one man and his dog, when many of the fans are trekking to the other way towards Moscow to see the Russians win again.
-
Some good stuff there, thanks!
-
Looking at the thread for this meeting on the Russian Forum, they aren't happy that only 2 foreigners are riding, whilst Kaminsky is also getting stick for riding on a Ukraine Licence. Joni from MC Assen did point out that many of the potential riders are in the Team Championship (Holstein, Malinen etc) but that didn't go down well either. Looking at the pics from practice they may very well be playing spot the crowd at this meeting. They could save time at the parade and introduce the crowd to the riders!

If you are interested the European Semi Final form Ufa is on THIS LINK Not the best quality but you can see the racing
-
If he doesn't get a slot in the Finals, I suspect that they will have him in the Friday meeting. Are you travelling with Eurorider BTW? If so I'll see you there
-
Basically Rob, the PMZ and the KNMV get a slot for their riders as they organise rounds/finals. There is a rather long winded explaination a few posts back which f-s-p and I referred to as being as clear as mud. Sven Holstein gets the nod ahead of Harald Simon, who drops to reserve, as he is the KNMV rep (Assen organise a Final) whilst Posa loses his slot as reserve to Knapp as the PMZ get a slot for orgainsing a qualifier. I'm assuming Simon is reserve because of the Austrian connection, and as SVEMO no longer have a qualifier after they made a complete hash of their organisation/cancellation of a round in 2008, they miss out. Rather unfair on Posa but that's politics. I do know that the Assen club have been pestering the FIM to boost the profile of Ice Racing for some years as many of the meetings do lose money, and by allowing an organising federation a "wild card" they believe it will expand the sport, encouraging new nations to bid for rounds/finals. If the Ipswich Snoasis project lets Ice Racing in to the proposed Speed skating track, I do know that the Assen club want to be involved (it is they who are promoting the Innsbrück Final to boost the Austrian presence, and they have a hand in the Saalfelden qualifier) and maybe we'll have Mark, Rob or Kev in the Finals!
-
This has puzzled me too, as according to that FIM reg (posted a few back now) Knapp and Holstein should ride and one of the others should be reserve (Jan Klatovsky?). But this IS the FIM we are talking about. Or is that the NL organise a Final - Holstein gets a slot, but Poland only host a QR therefore he gets a slot but starts at reserve? Remember, if he gets a good score in Round 2 (where he will replace one of the bottom two scorers) he could in theory stay in the competition all the way through. This happened to Antti Aakko a few years ago, where he started at reserve in R1 and then did well on the second day and did well for the rest of the competition that he never returned to reserve.
-
Watching Jouni Seppenan and Henri Malinen in Sanok, they rode well, but were not in the same class as the others, as their scores show.
