Has it definitely been confirmed that Adam is riding for the Panthers? If so, he has changed his mind since last Saturday. Edit: Just seen it on the website!

Excellent news regarding both riders - it did look bad. I am sure they will feel very second-hand for a few days I have supported speedway for a long time but as every year goes by I am more and more appreciative of the potential dangers the riders put themselves through for our entertainment.

Children go free and reduced admission prices for adults for rest of PL season. It will be interesting to see if this gets supporters in through the gates. Applies to junior sports teams I should add. I spoke to Adam on Saturday.

Adam is giving this season a miss hopefully to come back fit and strong next season.

So who do you think might be coming in then? King Kenny, Linus Sundstrom, MJJ, THJ, Avril Lavigne, Hougaard or Morrissey? Or may be all 7?!!!

Give the guy a break - our first British World Champion for many years plus he had to give up his allotment this year to concentrate on his racing!

Good score from Joe Jacobs last night at Swindon. 8+1 including a fall. Need him to produce that form at the very least in the PL.

Shame you put that £60 on Bees to win the EL - you could have used that for travelling over to Brandon occasionally!!

That was a quote from Dak from 2013 I believe, so doesn't refer to Panthers not being in the EL this season!

Interesting points of view especially regarding some of the great riders of the past which was when I first started watching speedway. I got hooked on speedway then - in the 70's but despite how much it has changed, I love it just as much now. Back to my original question: If the worlds top riders were willing/able to ride in the UK would it be sustainable? Would it bring back the crowds to make the sport viable - maybe even make money?!! How would that affect the PL? I do often wonder where we would be now if the top riders had never migrated to other European leagues and stayed here. Would the higher attendances have been maintained or was it an inevitability that the sport would decline. I know it is all hypothetical but it is such an interesting debate.

Completely hypothetical I know but referencing the quote from GRW123 below on Peter Collins award in EL section: That's impressive when considering the quality of the opposition. This was the time when British Speedway ruled the world, and EVERYBODY wanted to race in our league. Wonderful memories, Wonderful times, Brilliant Speedway. So pleased I was able to live and enjoy the iconic period of 1970's (Make love not war !!!) What would the speedway leagues in the UK be like now if all the best riders in the world wanted to ride in the UK and make this country their priority league?

Good post. I think it is impossible to quantify how Sky has affected speedway in the UK since it has been televising it as you say, it was in decline before Sky came on the scene. My personal view and it is a guess, is that may well have been finished as a league sport in this country by now without Sky. I have some mates that are MotoGP/roadracing fans and they started watching speedway on the TV about 10 years ago and are now regular viewers and also go to Brandon 7 or 8 times a season and they see the sport as very exciting. They came with me to watch it a few times many years ago but it took the regular viewing on the TV to get them hooked. Perhaps we underestimate this element of it being live on TV?
