  1. I have said this in about 3 or 4 posts over the years (Will get shot down in flames) Riders do not ride for OUR ENTERTAINMENT They do it for money, ego, adulation thrill etc etc Also rans buy expensive kit, vans and all the gear for the ego, thrill etc (trying to get adulation) Most motorsport in the world is competed in by amateurs for the fun of it (a select few who are either from very rich families/own good businesses or are very talented can race anything like professionally) Untill we get 100s of amateurs racing for fun and maybe trying to turn semi pro (3rd or 2nd division) We will not get a thriving 1st division! There are over 100 different BARC (British Automobile Racing Club) Championships in the UK! How many of the drivers inthese will be professional? 5%? 10%? http://barcweb2.users37.interdns.co.uk/information/starting-out-in-motorsport We need a thriving amateur rider base to get a thriving professional base! Remember nobody ever said Motorsport is cheap! Its not (But I bet Speedway is one of the cheapest) M
  2. We need to be in a sitution where teams WANT to get promoted! Thats when you know the sport / system is doing well. Move away from family friendly! Promote the extreme sport! (As in X Games, TT Races etc)
  3. Times have changed in the last 20/25 years! More TV, more social media, more computers. Peoples tastes have changed. In some towns (Worcester as an example 20ish years ago 6 to 8 Saturday leagues for Football, now lucky to get 1 League next year) tastes and life have changed. I think the promotors are fighting a losing battle financially, that is a tough way to live week in and week out. Speedway could end up being run as "clubs" with members who share the work, responsibility etc. (As some MotoX, Grasstrack, Autograss, Autocross, Local shows, steam fayres etc) Paying for a Stadium is expensive, can costs keep being covered? Needs a complete overhaul in the UK to survive. Play on the extreme! make it an event etc etc (All been said before) Good luck all, great sport, I fear it will slowly just ............... m
  4. If Craig Cook is a gating tart!??!?!? And he can gate! consistently, thats good!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Biggest problem I see is time delays ! Every delay puts the price up and the monthly repayment !
  6. Bought it and read it in 3 days ! I liked it. For sale 1 quickly read book £10 inc p+p
  7. Well the rules are again a farce! Line them up close to the tapes 6 inches? When under starters orders if anybody touches the tapes they are out? Simple Happy Christmas all M
  8. So after all that we do not know who to believe!!!!!!!!!!!! And we will never know the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. The whole system is flawed, until it changes we have to live with it!!! Harris is a true Brit so lets get behind him at least. Well done Tai in 2013 Come on Tai & Bomber in 2014 good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I do hope Harris has learnt to gate!!!!!!!!!!!!) & got his team / motors right.
  10. The Play offs are there as a tension builder / money spinner The final is there as a tension builder / money spinner
  11. Jonimac White Knight Agree with you both!!!!!!!! (How irritating) lol The BV v Poole meeting had my nerves jangling because you could see what was going to happen! gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrr Not illegal - fiddled ? maybe a bit harsh! Contrived??? I like that better??!! Planned and manipulated the situation to their own adavantage!!! Why wouldn't they? You have to make / manage your own luck sometimes!!!!!!!!!! The league needs a team to dislike and they love it! (When they are winning) lol
  12. Am not a Poole fan, but! Sometimes you have to make your own luck! Change things to bring yourself a good run/luck! Fair play to Poole, battling through, changing things, spotting an opening a chance and grabbing it! Have they done anything illegal? I think not but am not an expert! Proactive, will to win, keep supporters happy, make some money, speculate to accumulate, plan and manage! I am sure Mr Ford and the fans (probably the riders to) relish Mr Ford being the pantomime villain, getting talked about, jeered etc (At least it creates some passion and excitement.) If Mr Ford is there to promote, keep the team in the public eye, get people through the gate, think plan and know the rules he appears to be doing ok for himself. I am not a Poole fan but I have to respect all of that (Including sailing close to the wind sometimes????) am pretty much neutral with a preference for Coventry Also once Poole made the play offs it seemed obvious that they would win (Had a slight hope for Swindon & no hope for Brum)
  13. Whats the matter with people? Well done Tai! Born British, rides for us, talks about the national anthem, grown up into what appears to be a good well rounded, hard working, skillfull, determined young man! CONGRATULATIONS! BE PROUD!
  14. So happy for Tai, his family & his team! WELL Done!!!!!!!!!!!! Hard work does pay off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. They said Ben Barker was smooth and stylish the other night !!!!!!!!!!!! He was very quick but not smooth and stylish !!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I think: Weight would have some pro's some con's pro = Grip, bulk muscle for elbowing, easier to unload van! lol****************con = slower acceleration, smaller gaps to go through, maybe less agile, harder to unload van! lol
  17. Yes there is always the reaction time, but there is so much in the technique, body position, throttle control, weight transfer, bike set up, clutch set up, tyre pressure, practice practice practice Some people have a certain amount of instinct and can get away with it to a certain extent. But practice makes these people even better!!!!!!!
  18. If a reserve was 100% commited he would travel at own expense. (Thats life, thats business) You have to lose / risk something to try and get better. For all the moaning about Harris he seems to grab every opportunity to ride, not sure being in the GP is the the best thing for him but its up to him to decide that not us. I agree that he MUST improve gating to compete at the highest level. He is so skilled, brave and commited on a speedway bike it would be a waste of talent if he never improved his gating! Bomber you must spend the winter getting coached, practicing, focusing, adjusting, setting up for GATING!
  19. Its just another silly Speedway rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Harris was given the chance and took it (Who wouldnt?) I do not blame him at all. And on his day he can mix it with the best! (Its just he does not have enough of the good days)
  20. They do it because they love it! They do it for the thrill! They do it for their ego! They do it because they can! They do it because they are lucky enough to have the skills to be good at it and earn a living! (Sometimes a good living, sometimes a decent living, sometimes an average living) They do it because once upon a time they were a junior, amateur did well then chose to do it for the lifestyle / rewards! Probably 95% of people who race cars or bikes in the country do it as a hobby (Whilst holding down 1 or 2 jobs to pay for it all) A self employed "White Van Man" could probably put through in a year £20k of costs (Van, fuel, insurance, tax, public liability etc etc) They get more "better" work with a good van! Speedway riders get more "better" work with better kit! (If they have the skill to use it) (You pay your money and take your choice) Most self employed people have "costs" that go up every year!!!!!!!! Motorsport is expensive, professional motorsport is very expensive! Thats it going to take up Darts! (Hope to turn pro) Strewth just looked at the price of darts £30 - £50 for a decent set "cancel that idea" ! lol M
  21. Well well well! Decent meeting results close! Team GB (As a team) must be embarressed. (Should be anyway) Was Scott sat there thinking "If I was in that we could have qualified" ?! Tai did ok (You have to have a bad race sometime) Bomber was ok (Still seems to have some passion for it, but sometimes struggles for speed) Sorry the other 2 realy not at the races! Did not have the speed, smoothness, racecraft to turn it on for a big meeting (Sorry but its true) The other 3 teams did them selves proud!!!!! Australia through!!!!!!!!!! USA wow (Greg Hancock showed what passion and teamwork can do) !!!!!!!! Latvia fair play to them!!!!!!!!!! And I am patriotic & gutted!!!!!!!!!!
