Would Crowds Increase If Speedway Was Not On Television
Mixy230 replied to cityrebel's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Hammer57 "But with no speedway on tv and very little in the press how do you bring in the new younger fans? Only so many family and friends we can get too go." PROMOTION! The owners, bosses, managers must promote the sport. If you cant afford tv adverts, radio adverts, news adverts etc etc They must do what other businesses do (Double glazing, pizza shops, curry houses, village shops) They knock on doors, attend local shows, post fliers promo leaflets, offer prizes freebies, mailshots, visit schools, local business, shopping centres! If people want their business to succeed nowadays they MUST get off of their a*** and work at it promoting it! If they do not the business dies. M -
Would Crowds Increase If Speedway Was Not On Television
Mixy230 replied to cityrebel's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What a fantastic interesting question! People who want to watch Speedway have to go to a live meeting so potentialy a bigger crowd and more gate money. V,s Less/No Sky revenue Maybe less sponsorship for the teams & riders (Less or no TV exposure) Who knows the answer until it happens and we have the hard proof. But I expect the answer to still be fewer spectators until the promotors / tracks bring the sport into the modern age. Clean toilets! Some paint! More modern music / sound system! Decent food & drinks! Less time wasted (Youngsters are used to non stop action, they do not want to wait around between races) neither do I realy but that is what I am used to! Proper promotion, making each meeting an event! Reasonable competitive pricing! Some excitement! Had a bad nights sleep so a little grumpy today! ha ha M -
League Sponsorship - How Much?
Mixy230 replied to StormMarketing's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Skidder Its the most sensible/obvious option (Oil company) and peanuts in £s for an oil company? How many places stock MOTUL in the UK? How many people in the UK would buy an oil after seeing an add / banner at the Speedway? (Given the demography of Speedway spectators) Or do they like the familiar names. -
League Sponsorship - How Much?

oldace! "OK so you got your guess, now what is the value of a totally uninformed plucked from thin air guess as to the value of something that is entirely dependent on who it is being sold to" Its not totally uninformed, as we all on here have some information on the UK Speedway scene (Have been to a few tracks over the last few years!) Seen specator numbers etc. Also seen TV coverage and what the sponsors gain from that (As I am a consumer as well) And I have Sponsored car clubs, car race meetings and individual races (So have experience in that) If you can think of any markets that would benefit (financially) from marketing/sponsoring Elite League / Prem League Speedway I would be impressed. They may gain some exposure, but struggle to see anybody covering the cost of the sponsorship by additional profit generation. I think my guess is a generous one when you think about the £s needed in extra revenue, that would be required to make the cost of the sponsorship back. M (I see there are no other guesses or informed decisions!) -
League Sponsorship - How Much?

League Sponsorship - How Much?
Mixy230 replied to StormMarketing's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Storm, I dont think its a bad question/topic. Should it be called Sponsorship? or Called Advertising? I think in this day and age of people with a big ego, they will think its worth far more than it realy is! Who will gain any business/revenue/sales by sponsoring a League? Who gains anything from having there name on a football shirt at £xxxxxxxxxxx lots of money? Who gains from having a little sticker on an F1 car? -
Speedibee "I would like to see the financial aspect of the asset system removed somehow as this is affecting the the signing of riders rather than their ability , this years NL has seen a larger than usual amount of signings of untried riders of dubious quality" But on the other hand, we have all moaned that young riders never get a chance. Surely all new riders are of dubious quality untill they have been tested within the riguers of speedway life?

The Start Of The Decline
Mixy230 replied to THE DEAN MACHINE's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Jonny the spud I agree with what you say completely. Its an expensive sport and you KNOW that only 50-75 riders in the world make a good living at it. So you have to be very good to make the grade. (Also need some lucky breaks) But we need to remember (I hope) that most young riders start out riding/racing for fun. Most people in Motorsport race bikes or cars as a hobby for fun. Work hard to pay for it and its an expensive hobby. (Some even get divorced over it) tee hee As Speedway goes its not an expensive motorsport. I honestly feel that we can not afford in EL/PL as many full time riders as there are! NL = Hobby with some income / expenses PL = Semi Pro + Other work EL = Pro + some semi pro riders The sport can not sustain 100s of full time pro riders as the spectator revenue is not there!!!!!!!!!!!! If you go to Brandon in the summer to a decent F1 Stox meeting there will be more spectators than speedway, more entrants than speedway, more laps than speedway, more expensive machinery than speedway but all drivers will be amateurs. (The stars might get some start money or some expenses) Some drivers might even pay to enter. The professional Speedway rider must be limited to EL and some PL Riders as the sport can not afford it! If clubs lose money consistantly we will have no future in the UK or even Europe. M Once you get passed the top 50? riders in the world is there realy enough money in the Speedway world to have riders 51 to 200 being pro? -
The Start Of The Decline
Mixy230 replied to THE DEAN MACHINE's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
MattK Not with rich daddies paying for more kit than skill level. If there were regulations / limits it would allow at least a (Reasonably) level field where skill would show through over glitter stickers and nice leathers. Then if someone showed potential at NL level and they were approached by a PL outfit there increase in income (potential income) may entice them up a level. (Nobody has to go up a level if they are happy where they are) Their kit would be saleable as its proven and done well (hence being spotted) The next tear would have looser regs (more power/less weight etc) I could go out now and buy loads of decent kit & a van etc (Its not that expensive) but it does not make me a pro speedway rider! Just as now I have a racing car in the garage! But I am far from a pro race car driver! (Far far from being so!!!!!!!!) I pay for it all because I want to! I think all we are saying as that some speedway riders expect to much (Money & sponsorship) maybe far more than their skill status in the sport warrants or can afford! M -
The Start Of The Decline

Now to make myself unpopular! In reality Speedway is a minority sport (Even in the UK) Few countries better the UK for speedway Poland? Sweden? Professional riders can only be full time professional if they make their living from Speedway, this means that they ride for x2 x3 teams in as many countries which dilutes there commitment to the team! As Poland seems to pay more over the last few years we can all see where the commitment for many has gone. More riders need to be semi pro! See it as a paid for hobby! I hope/think most started out in Speedway/Grasstrack for fun, entertainment etc The money is not there for everybody to be a full time pro! When riders had a TEAM or maybe at a push x2 teams they used to ride Longtrack/Euro Grasstrack/big Grasstrack meets in the uk for extra money/fun/ego! Now they ride for 3 teams! I honestly feel that we can not afford in EL/PL as many full time riders as there are! (Should it be as there are or as there is?) lol NL = Hobby with some income / expenses PL = Semi Pro + Other work EL = Pro + some semi pro riders Once you get passed the top 50? riders in the world is there realy enough money in the Speedway world to have riders 51 to 200 being pro? In Motor Racing How many Pro drivers in the world? how many amatuers who spend and do it for fun? In Short Circuit Motor racing how many pros in the UK ? how many do it for fun? In Darts how many pros in the world? How many semi pro trying to make it? How many amateurs trying to make it? In Snooker how many pros in the world? How many semi pro trying to make it? How many amateurs trying to make it? The Speedway world is realy not big enough / rich enough to sustain the riders pay! Its only my opinion. M -

Football - 'tickets For Schools' Could It Work For Speedway.
Mixy230 replied to Deano's topic in 'The Way Ahead'
Schools are always asking for mentors/business speakers etc etc to give a talk on a trade/business. A talk Short Film Tickets School trip Metal work class or whatever they are called nowadays down to strip a bike & rebuild in the pits(needs an old bike and a riders mechanic) They could probably do it in an hour or 2. Media class down to a meeting to make a promotional film at a meeting Design a poster in ART or Media ? Catering to be asked to create a decent Menu!?!? (If they have a Cafe) rather than a manky old van Make it more a community thing! -

Henry I completely agree! Nikki would have still struggled to make the final and if he did very unlikely to get better than 3rd, he never looked quick all night! Lisa Never have I said Nikki is an Angel, but as you no doubt watched it you could see Nikki chatting to Chris, then being pushed by somebody then it all started. -

Philip Glad your opinions are clear! Its good that you do have clear opinions! Shame they are so 1 sided. (What was the verbal assualt on Holder? Did Nikki clash with Jack Holder? Or did Jack clash with Nikki?) The Ref will blame Nikki (Even Nikki is not daft enough to assualt Chris when surrounded by 10+ Holder hangers on!) Ok maybe he is! lol... But you even try and take the spotlight off of the Holder clan over this incident!!!!!!!!! I am counting the ones (1. People I know who watched it 2. Presenters initial reaction 3. Posters on the internet 4. My opinion) Probably not much different to the ones you count!?!? Not being the worse thing we have seen does not make it acceptable?! I am not realy bothered about the outcome, just the way the outcome was achieved, which all must agree was woolly to say the least! Philip please do not ignore the obvious failings of the system (rules / refs) and the poor behaviour of the Holder clan (Trying to divert the blame onto Nikki ?!) There was what 10 to 20 of them by the Pit gate?!? Should he should have climbed over the fence to avoid them? or walk through them ignoring them all! They were there for a reason, what reason? to add pressure? to provoke? (THEY SHOULD NOT ALL HAVE BEEN THERE!)
