British Speedway Promoters Meeting
TheReturn replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
YES YES YES YES YES But that must include an overall of this existing rubbish speedway websites. Speedway is so easy to market with some great action images an video montages, it could look exciting, but right now the websites are bland and let the sport down. Social media is the way to go, but it is a full time job so £300 a week is a bargain for the right skilled individual, but it also needs one thing, it needs the top brass feeding down information all the time so that person can interact daily with the public. -
Plus it's the weekend. Wait until Monday FFS.

Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year
TheReturn replied to Grand Central's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Just read the BSPA statement on the website. Pointless complaining, unless it ensures Tai gets a decent 30 second slot during the programme (which I always said was the best we could hope for). A question I would ask the BSPA though is what have they done to involve the BBC in recent years? For example, did they buy a box at Cardiff and invite BBC Sports editors to be their guests? Did they send a press pack all about Tai after he became World Champion? Did they offer to help the BBC to arrange for Tai to take his bike into the SPOTY studio for a feature? Lots of proactive ways to get the media involved, but call me a cynic, I am guessing none of those were done. If the answer to those is a yes, then fair enough for them to be peeved. -

Exactly Vince. Why put out a press release Sunday with only HALF the information. It's amateurish and therefore YOU should not blame people on here for getting facts wrong based on half a story on Sunday night. BSPA should have had a full press release with all the new rules and facts Sunday or delayed announcement until one was ready. Whichever way you look at it, the BSPA have taken half a good idea and messed it up or messed the announcement up. If all the facts had been presented Sunday night then maybe people could have done that! -

So we are not allowed opinions? Just because the promoters put their money in and run the clubs does not, in all cases, mean they know what they're doing. -

It defies logic doesn't it! I think all British reserves is a great idea, but the way they are going about it defies logic. -

When? Show me a post where you have said that. You are missing the main point of the argument Steve. People are not against Brits at reserve, people are against the fact it is in most cases non-competitive NL riders. The reserve berths should be for any young British rider, not just those in the NL. -

The NL riders at reserve is totally clueless. Surely the correct route is NL to PL to EL? If they are good enough then fine, but that rule needs changing to two Under-23 British Riders (regardless of league). -

Whatever is announced tonight will not please everyone, but people need to realise, we can not plan our sport around what Sky want, we have done that for years and look where we are now. Today is hopefully the start of a long term recovery for speedway in the UK, where the sport is planned correctly with the best interests of British Speedway survival, above TV interests. -

Hardly I would say it is the start of the decline. We can not plan our sport based on Sky, we need to plan our sport on surviving, and then expanding later when we can afford to. -

You lot have it back to front. This is our sport, lets set British Speedway up for the future, and if Sky want a piece of that come January, then they are welcome to. We MUST NOT run our sport based on what Sky want. -
Don't worry, easily done with that geezer.

2014 Gp Calendar
TheReturn replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Oh FFS. Forget Cardiff. I asked the question why do Poland get the 'finale' every year. I hope it is not automatically offered to Poland, and other nations are given the option to request it, should they want to, or have availability to host. Be that, Cardiff, Denmark, Sweden etc. -

Not the point. Why should Poland always have the finale of the GP. Cardiff packs 40,000 people in, surely Cardiff, like other countries should be given the option of having the season finale, should they want it. -

Why does Poland always get the last GP of the year? -
Wild Cards 2014

What a nasty horrible comment. I accept he is inconsistent but at times Harris did show he was capable of mixing it with the best. -

Same could be said of wild card picks ! -

<quote> As I thought ... he shouldnt be anywhere near a GP next year let alone a reserve !!!</quote> Not sure I agree. We all said that that Woffy was not up to it a year ago and look what happened! Harris as shown he can, on his day, mix it with the GP boys, and did win a GP, so I don't see any harm him being considered for reserve. Is there more suitable candidates for reserve? More than likely, but to say Harris should not be near a GP is a little unfair. -
Wild Cards 2014

Is anybody else surprised that Gollob is being offered a wild card? I know he is a big name, but he just did not seem the same this season, the racing passion we all know and love was not there. A man at the twilight of his career. In my opinion, even though I like a red hot racing Gollob, I am not sure offering him a wild card is the right call. Thoughts? -

Speedway was here before both. and will be here in some form if both do, as you put it 'eff off'. -

Not a very original thread title. 0 out of 10 for originality. -
Pearson Defends The Play-off... Desperate
TheReturn replied to TheReturn's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So he is sucking up to his employer then, is that what you are saying? Of course, every time someone (not just me mentions Pearson, you are here to defend him). That said, my thread was more of an hatred of the play-offs, I just do not think it is justifiable to decide a season long league championship. The thousands of fans that attended the play-off's at a guess are the fans of those clubs, who would have equally attended a league title winning match. So Mr Speedway Star man, are you also a fan of the play-offs, or do you think they are a stupid way to decide a league long title? Does not mean you and they are all correct though. -
Listening to Pearson on Sky tonight trying to defend the playoff in our Elite League made me wonder if he is a BSPA mouthpiece, rather than impartial journalist/commentator? I mean, how desperate is he for using the stupid comparison of the play-offs in the Championship to somehow justify using it in speedway. The Championship is used for 3-6th for promotion, not to decide who are league champions. Equally, the Premiership in football does not use play-offs to decide the league champions either. The play-offs to decide the league champions is pathetic, not to mention such weak arguments to defend it from the likes of Pearson.
