Minority? Are you sure? Most people on here seem to think he's a 'wrong un' (polite version). He's carried out despicable crimes, yes he's done some time, but some would argue he's not done enough. I do agree he deserves the chance to make amends, but is there any evidence at all he wants to actually make amends, by serving his community in some way?

Wild Cards for 2027
TheReturn replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
They are not Polish.... but whatever. I do feel sorry for Russian sportspeople not able to compete in their respective sports, but I feel even more sorry for innocent Ukrainian's having homes destroyed and innocent civilians being killed. So until the Russian state leave Ukraine, Russian sports men and women should not be allowed on the international stage. I do think another nation should also be banned from the international sporting stage, but that's an argument for another forum as not relevant for speedway to my knowledge.. good luck ROI in the football though on Sunday. -
Wild Cards for 2027
TheReturn replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Bewley for sure, he showed last night that even when not 100% he can win races. Sadly you have to assume Monster riders will get a pick, even if they have not done enough. I am still not over the fact these people gave Woffinden a wildcard after his serious injury and relatively poor form for the previous two GP seasons, ruining the opportunity for another rider, perhaps a rider with a long term future in the sport. -
Sadly every time the camera panned to the crowd it did look a little that way, the average age of those they panned to must have been age 50! The fanbase/lack of excitement in the crows not a great advert really to any young fans watching at home. The racing was superb across both nights, I am still not sure two GPs across the same weekend is good for the sport. In most cases riders that not dialled in on the first night, are probably not going to be dialled in on the second night. The TV production also seemed to focus on riders battling for 3rd/4th and a couple of times missed a race at the front.

I always thought Nigel Crabtree fell into this category whenever he raced against Long Eaton. Good rider, but if he was being beat by anyone, he would spend the race looking down at his bike.

Leicester should be welcoming this, they finally have a local rival in sport, (their football fans try and claim they have one with Forest, but it isn't a real derby, not like Forest v Derby).
-
Perhaps, but by leaving it so late he has robbed someone the opportunity to plan ahead to ride the GP season and get sponsors ready for the campaign. Actually I blame whoever thought it was a good idea to offer him a wildcard, his GP form for two seasons was average (at best) and that was before the injury. He really should not have been offered a place.

Chelsea FC launches The Speedway Collection

There perhaps would have been a good opportunity to partner in some way had it been during tye season, i.e. get some bikes and riders to Stamford Bridge and some kind of buy merchandise/get free speedway entry somewhere (perhaps if feasible), but alas it's the close season and not the best timing. -
I thought the SGP was meant to be the best sporting riders in the world, not ex world champions who generate an opinion. Let's be clear, he was way past their racing best for couple of seasons and it been left to sporting form, Woffinden would not have qualified. An ex world champion he may be but that selection is not justifiable.

The TV production need to be sacked or educated. That’s twice now an exiting race is happening for secondary places and on the final bend these clueless idiots switch to the leader who’s well clear and pointless footage when we miss the exciting battle behind. Then they use from behind drone coverage during a close battle for first, so we still can’t see what’s happening.

2025 GP line up/wildcards

Personally I would say he is a self-serving **** (word begins with a C) regardless of nationality, but that's perhaps a topic for another day. -
I have never been a fan of using play off's in speedway to decide a league winner, but I have been a lone voice on here over the years. I accept it may have worked in the past to offer some good finals, let's be honest it relies on luck as much as anything. Let the league winner be the team that finish's top of the league. Right now we are seeing 'luck' being the factor in the play offs. Luck that the weather plays nicely, and come late Sept/Oct in the UK it's not something you would put money on. Instead of the league winner being the team that have been consistent from Apr-Sept, that team could have bad luck in one match and lose the title, so the league winner to some degree relies on luck in the play-off's. Recent years we have seen play off matches full of guest riders, and riders who only sign on once their lucrative Polish leagues finish. The biggest farce of all this season, there's only seven bloody teams in the league. If we the TV deal insists on this farcical play off situation, with just seven teams let's just make it that the top two in the league contest a play off final and let that be at the first week in September when we may still have acceptable weather.

2025 GP line up/wildcards
TheReturn replied to eric i's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How the hell does the SEC have a route to the GP series? We need open qualifiers that any rider, could theoretically qualify for. Not closed shops or wildcard picks for sponsors monster mates. The selection is a farce right now. -
Eurosport, terrible professionalism.
TheReturn replied to Odds On's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Why? Completely sexist to say that. We have speedway experts in both sexes, and equally some very good professional broadcasters in both sexes. The woman who hosted with Scott for BT Sports was fantastic for example. -
Eurosport, terrible professionalism.

Agreed that Eurosport coverage is poor, but a disgrace to single out Abi, who actually isn't too bad. I am not sure if this down to Eurosport or a production company, but the actual TV fcoverage is poor. As others have mentioned the helmet cam/drone footage mid race is stupid, we lose half the action. They are good innovations to the overall coverage, but use them wisely, mainly post race when showing replays from various angles. The producer responsible for controlling the main camera coverage often pans in on the race winner and misses vital racing for the minor placings. For commentary I like Kelvin, but I am not sure he is right to be the lead commentator, perhaps needs a broadcast professional with Kelvin as the expert alongside. Scott brings a lot to the pit interviews, and often feels he is underused at times.
