Pearson Defends The Play-off... Desperate
TheReturn replied to TheReturn's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So he is sucking up to his employer then, is that what you are saying? Of course, every time someone (not just me mentions Pearson, you are here to defend him). That said, my thread was more of an hatred of the play-offs, I just do not think it is justifiable to decide a season long league championship. The thousands of fans that attended the play-off's at a guess are the fans of those clubs, who would have equally attended a league title winning match. So Mr Speedway Star man, are you also a fan of the play-offs, or do you think they are a stupid way to decide a league long title? Does not mean you and they are all correct though. -
Listening to Pearson on Sky tonight trying to defend the playoff in our Elite League made me wonder if he is a BSPA mouthpiece, rather than impartial journalist/commentator? I mean, how desperate is he for using the stupid comparison of the play-offs in the Championship to somehow justify using it in speedway. The Championship is used for 3-6th for promotion, not to decide who are league champions. Equally, the Premiership in football does not use play-offs to decide the league champions either. The play-offs to decide the league champions is pathetic, not to mention such weak arguments to defend it from the likes of Pearson.

They are more or less right. Lets not forget Pearson calls the race on the back straight 'If it stays like this it will be a 5-1' blah, blah. -
Are you a troll or just totally clueless?

Cal is on the BBC motorcycling coverage weekly, more people will know who he is than Tai... .rightly or wrongly.
-
I am not sure speedway is big enough to even get into the list of dozen nominees, but what we should do is put pressure on the BBC to include Tai in the nights programme when they look at 'other sports' with British success, a role the BSPA should be already working towards now if they are proactive, i.e. sending the BBC SPOTY team a marketing pack of speedway and Tai... assuming Tai is even in the UK at the time.
-
Have to be realistic, I don't think speedway is big enough to get Tai listed, but I hope they very least give it some coverage and have Tai in the audience for coverage during the programme. I did BBC Breakfast a few weeks ago myself and got to sit right next to the lovely Susanna,, it was so hard to focus on her words when my eyes were focussing on those legs.. wow.

We can if it is in the public domain, (i.e. in this case the BBC article). -

Glad to see the Mods doing their usual bang up job of allowing stupid bullsh1t and even libellous posts to stand, and deleting others simply because they used the term 'moron' to describe the aforementioned post/er. -

So right, I think he said at some point if he was going to ride through the pain for the SGP, he owed it to his clubs to ride for them too, and his efforts to learn Polish were very professional too I thought. Total respect for how he conducted himself this season. Nigel Pearson uses the term 'Legend' for every other rider, I prefer to use it loosely for those that deserve the term, and I think Tai could well be one of those riders. -

Awful for Tai, and Gollob, just bad luck, but Pearson is such a doom and gloom merchant the moment both crashed. Why can't he wait for facts, like a good journalist. -

lets really get behind Tai and show some support. If he does go on to secure the World Title, it would be fully deserved after riding through the pain barrier for much of the season after his injury, a true World Champions grit and determination. And I, like I would suggest 99% of us on here will be admitting we were wrong to doubt his competitiveness for the GP series itself! I am so, so happy to be proved wrong. Good luck Tai, and enjoy your night. -
Two times World Champion.

When did our sport become such a joke? Had to laugh when Pearson declared that a rider in last nights match was R/R because he was riding for another team elsewhere. It just sounds ridiculous. R/R should be for injured riders only.
-
Why is it any rider that is leading a race is always described 'smooth and stylish' on Sky?
-
Yep, I am not sure it will catch on though, it could be a bit too radical maybe for some.
-
Here is something unique.. how about the team that scores the most league points over the course of a season is declared the League Champions?

Air Fence Safety Performance - Research?
TheReturn replied to Elephantman's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Seriously... my glib answer earlier was because I did not think anyopne was so bloody stupid to doubt the benefits of using air fences. Speedway is a dangerous sport, and sadly serious incidents will happen, but watch any crash into an air fence and it is clear to see that serious injury can clearly be overcome hitting aiur oadded rather than hard wood, or in the case of exeter back in the day metal fencing. -
