Ipswich Vs Somerset Thursday 16th May 7.30pm Pl
Travertine replied to CardinalSin's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I must have my gloomy head on today, because I think the Rebels might just sneak a point, maybe even more. Remember, if Doyle sneaks in with a team mate behind him whilst on a tactical, much of the hard work building up a lead could be for nothing. Could be wrong though and would be happy to be proved otherwise! -
Redcar V Rye House (pl)... 9th May

To be fair to the rule-makers, any arbitrary point in the match could provide problems, but you have to balance that against the chance of a match making it further when the forecast is very poor. Remember, the decision to change it to the tenth heat was taken after last year's debacle, when many meetings fell foul of the weather, but quite a few others got started and then abandoned when conditions deteriorated - I'd be interested to know how many made it to ten heats, but didn't get far enough to get a result. That I'll leave to someone with more time on their hands! Sitting at home after a rain-off, perhaps! Interestingly, last nights two EL matches would have had different results had they been called off after ten races; Peterborough would've picked up a point at Lakeside, whilst Eastbourne would actually have won theirs at Coventry, picking up three points instead of the eventual zero. You cannot run a match on until the result is beyond doubt, you have to stop at the point where it becomes unraceable. -

Hmmmm, previous post is credited to a user-name that's very similar to another doom merchant on these threads - style and tone seems somewhat familiar too! Another metamorphosis methinks! -

Another visit to the track for the ambulance, and it's now taken three hours to complete 11 heats. Is the track really that bad? -

Surely that's a good thing? It means they've qualified for the play-offs and/or one or two juicy cup finals! -
Is he not still busy with the Take That reunion tour? I'll get my coat.......................

Scunthorpe Saints - Not Entering N L 2013 :(
Travertine replied to bigred's topic in National League Speedway
Can they not still enter just the National League Trophy, which could give them a few fixtures without breaking the bank? -

But does the dog pay? Does it get any sort of discount - as a 3yo bitch, it's still eligible for child rates I presume! -

Well, no wonder the comets lost if they only turned out for 9 of the races, they won't have a chance with Ippo taking 15 -

Possibly three with the PCT still up for grabs - are the Witches not still waiting for a PCT match at Sheffield to be rearranged? 3 possible finals and only 2 Thursdays left, and one of those Thursdays is the last outstanding home PCT match according to the fixture list! Seems like Ippo have picked up similar fixture problems following the season's decidedly inclement weather. -
What was the reason for doing away with 13 heats, and when did it happen? Didn't they use 14 at one time? So how did teams manage in the old days before points limits were brought in, was it survival of the fittest, with the richest promoter always getting the best squad?

Workington V Ipswich Lc S/f 13/10
Travertine replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Eminently sensible - extrapolate the result from that part of the meeting already run. I'd love to see the working out, but at a guess, I'd say the Comets go through 53 - 37 for a 4 point aggregate victory. -
I don't think the convenience factor should've come into it - for my mind, Newcastle made a very poor selection when choosing opponents for their group. They had both choices, and Leicester were a certainty, but then to pick Somerset out of the remaining teams? They've still got the KO Cup, and were beaten by a better team in the League cup, but if they fail to win the league, I think you'll find that was the point that saw their hopes disappear.

If you don't agree with the post, then tell us why, instead of just posting an unsupported point of view. There is some merit in the OP, as well as some poor reasoning, but at least the point was made clear, unlike your immature response.

Is Speedway Too Expensive Now ?
Travertine replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes, but those items would be a given whatever chosen sport you followed, and I wouldn't think there would be much difference in cost between them. How does it compare with, say Greyhounds, where there are something like 8 races on the card, each of them (but not all) generally much shorter? -
As if that's going to make much difference to potential riders signing for Worky next season! I think you'll find they've got more pressing issues to worry about ............ But this is the Premier League we're talking about, and plenty of teams race on Sundays, which would be no different than a Tuesday for a Premier League outfit. If Worky moved up to the Elite League, as suggested, they wouldn't have to choose a Monday, only moving to that day for Sky matches - Only Belle Vue and Wolves regularly race on Mondays, and look where they are in the league table!

Careful, or you'll get Aljack all over your threads repeating his mantra - you've got to have a big hitter at number one!

Ever thought about not going yourself, you and your 25 mates, or however many it is? Would make a world of difference on race nights, not having to watch under a cloud of gloomy despondency in one corner! -

Who were the rest of the Newport side planned for this season, and how do their season's averages stack up at their new teams? Or did some them not ever find a ride in the end?
