Newcastle had Robert Lambert and Berwick Nick Morris, number ones perfectly able to compete with teams headed by Brady Kurtz, Jacob Thorsell and Chris Harris. I doubt that one big league with the riders shared around would cost significantly more, but would hope that the expanded fixture list, the greater variety of opponents and the lack of double-uppers would reinvigorate UK speedway. That really is my last word. Sorry, Somerset.
-
None. I referred to different riders and did not count double uppers twice. There are plenty of riders.
-
I have referred to 145 riders above, so there are plenty. Teams would be Championship standard plus every team with a PL number one. Anyway, it’s a Somerset thread so I’ll leave it at that.
-
Why would you exclude any riders? They just have to have an average, even if it’s 13.5 for Doyle. And 126 2017 riders plus 19 new ones makes 145, more than the 133 needed for 19 teams. Plus there are plenty more foreign riders who would come over given the chance.
-
Now we’ve established there are enough riders, equality of teams will come down to the right rules and points limits for team building. Poole and Glasgow might have a GP rider or two while Newcastle and Berwick have a more balanced top 5, but their team points would be limited and the reserves could be a fair share of young Brits.
-
119 riders needed for 17 7 man teams while 126 different riders rode in the PL and the CL last year, so, yes, there are enough riders. And that’s not counting the new 13 riders who are coming in this year or 6 emerging NL ones. Rider shortage does not prevent one big league.
-
Nope. The draft system in the EL brought on Steve Worrall, Jason Garrity, Kyle Newman, Charles Wright, Stefan Nielsen, Lewis Rose, James Sarjeant, Josh Bates and Lewis Kerr and if persevered with could now include Wajtknecht, Bowtell, Bewley, Bickley, Jenkins and Kemp! Surely a brilliant idea if properly run and supported? Much better for UK speedway than having the likes of Graversen, Pijper, Etheridge and Konopka at reserve.
-
To be fair Buster wrote his “B” over Xmas and it’s due to be announced this month, with the other five letters of “Buster” signed over the next five months. It’s the amazing new way of doing things at Kings Lynn.
-
Yes, there is. There’s plenty of riders. And even easier if it were compulsory to have two U.K. riders at reserve.
-
There are plenty. This is a myth. Just count all the riders who rode last year in the PL and the CL.
-
Nope, it’s not anti-Belle Vue, it’s just that only Poole sign brilliant Poles! Let them carry on polishing their turds
-
And boy, did we love the look of Poole on the track last season!
-
Time now for Shanes to ask for £1,000 a point or get off to Belle Vue.
-
The “BSPA General Council”? My, doesn’t that sound grand for an amateurish, squabbling rabble.
-
Yep, I agree with all of that. But, firstly, Matt Ford doesn’t stop at that: he instructs riders not to ride or to have engine failures so he can reduce his team’s average and get a better rider in; and, secondly, he’s instrumental in certain rules to create “fairness” when it suits him (like the re-averaging of GP riders or one over eight) but then immediately takes advantage of out of date averages to sign Woryna and Bedpaniak, rather than suggest they be re-averaged in the interests of fairness.
-
Yeah, Max is obviously rubbish. Sundstrom on the other hand won three of his thirty-two Extraliga rides and is clearly the Messiah! Ah, Poole fans.
-
To be fair, Brady is better in every way ........ apart from points scoring. But on that basis I would have Carl Wilkinson over both, all action leg trailer, but mainly at the back.
-
Belle Vue Wolves Swindon Leicester Somerset Rye House Kings Lynn Poole My table based on integrity (the worst sins being signing ringers, voting for one over eight & not signing one over eight)
-
“No doubt”? Hmmmm if you mean being able to lean and bunny jump your bike this way and that way, Darcy was brill, but if you mean honed skill and dedication over twenty years with the trophies to show for it, there’s only one winner. It’s tragic that we’ve been robbed of Darcy, but his temperament casts doubt on whether he would have applied him self sufficiently to become another Ivan Mauger.
-
........ and of course most of us will.
-
Blown away by Kings Lynn’s radical new approach of announcing signings with a fanfare .............. a week after we all knew.
-
No way should Lynn be allowed that team. If Buster was instrumental in the one eight point rider, denying two to at least three clubs, he should be made to sign Bjerre, Lindgren or another, rather than fob off the fans and the rest of the league with budget also-rans.
-
Yawn. Either get on and sign Shanes or let another club have him. He shouldn’t be stuck in the middle of this.
-
Blimey, is it 70 years since Poole won a trophy?
-
Can’t see us wanting your two Poles!!!
