Sheffield v Belle Vue 25th August
Steve55 replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have to agree with your comments and view of the situation at Sheffield Speedway. With the way things currently stand, I and it appears quite a few others on here would have thought that the Sheffield Promotion would have busted a gut to try and get tonights meeting on. All the riders are in the country - aren't they? Yes the weather was a little wet yesterday and this morning. However we are in the middle of the worst drought since 1976, so the rain quickly disappeared from every where else in Sheffield, apart from Owlerton. There were obviously individuals in the know (apparently), who knew the meeting was off quite a time (perhaps an hour or more) before anything was formally announced in the public domain. Also why would agree to your landlord closing you down at your busiest time of year to make improvements to other parts of the stadium. If it was so important and essential why wasn't it done in April or May? And why would the contractors making these improvements damage other existing fixtures without repairing them before leaving ? It's all quite strange isn't it. I can't remember a season which has been so interrupted as this one. There is nothing you can do about the weather, although Neil Machin used to try and get every meeting on, sometimes when it was obvious it wasn't going to happen, but today wasn't one of those was it? The air fence fiasco couldn't be helped and was made to look worse because it was on live TV. The starting gate issue against Peterborough shouldn't have happened as that should be checked and sorted well in advance of start time, electrician on site? As a season holder I've paid in advance for something that its looking like I'm not going to get. I'm going away in October for two weeks so I hope it pi$$es it down in England for those weeks and I might just get to see some speedway that I've paid for. Mind you if it's on TV they'll probably try and ride the meetings! -

The rain falling hasn't been torrential, and the track has drainage, which won't have been overwhelmed due to the very small amount that's fallen in the last few/many weeks. This is just another nail in the coffin of the sport as far as I'm concerned. I'm not that far away from Owlerton, the roads around here are almost if not dry now and I'm sure that they could have got a satisfactory meeting on. The SCB ought to have a nearby referee come and inspect the track around 7.30pm and give his independent opinion. If he considers the track raceable then award Belle Vue 4 points and fine the Sheffield promotion. -

According to forecast on my iphone rain stopping now, which it has here (5 miles from track) and then sun coming out, though cloudy, and temperatures up to 22 C. But if there are dogs running this afternoon they might only have an hour or so to work on the track, after they've inflated the air fence. Any body know any different - Charlieboy? -

Not shown on the website as off! Nor apparently on facebook! Where do you get your information Charlie? -
Would appear to have been a good call by the Sheffield promotion, it's been raining very hard for the last half hour here, five miles from the track! There may well be a fixture back log for Sheffield, that's all down to the work that's been done at the stadium this summer ....... for the greyhound track.

Sheffield -V- Wolves Thursday 4th aug OFF
Steve55 replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Got back home from Owlerton Stadium about 20 minutes ago. Yes I went there thinking the weathers great, track should be in great shape and looking forward to some good racing! I don't do social media (Facebook), I do look at the clubs website prior to meetings when the weathers bad or riders are injured, if at Sheffield or else where. I also occasionally look on here, on the run up to some meetings. But this week I've been busy and didn't. I wasn't the only person to turn up there this evening as a steady stream of cars came into the car park, with drivers and passengers having puzzled looks on their faces, whilst I was on my phone checking the clubs website. I saw three men (obviously not wise) standing in the car park, shrugging their shoulders whilst in conversation about the situation. I do hope that none of them had travelled from Wolverhampton, but they will have come from far and wide. I've been going to Sheffield speedway on and off since I was 10 years old and with more than half a century gone I can't remember a season like this one. The COVID season last year ran better than this one. I've had a season ticket for the last 7 years, but I won't be getting one next year. The club have the email addresses of all the season ticket holders and probably their phone numbers as well on record. Wouldn't it have been a thought to send a message to ALL regarding what was happening. I've had radio Sheffield on today and heard the news twice but don't recall hearing about the meeting being off - was it on the radio? All I can say is that the contractors are to blame for the damage, but the club have to take most, if not all the responsibility for getting the word out there that the meeting was off and as far as I'm concerned they didn't do enough. -

Sorry about that, but I didn't do anything purposely, just highlighted it and clicked on quote! To be honest I'm not capable of copy and paste 'n, I'm a bit of a technophobe really, no computer wizard. -

He needs to keep an eye on Morris at the tapes as well, mind you it bit him in the backside in heat 15 at Owlerton the other week! -

Probably why the ref held the tapes a bit longer in heat 15 - Morris went straight through them! Our little crowd were also baffled by Wolves rider selection for heat 15, Douglas and Becker seemed such an obvious choice! -
Allen wasn't the only Ace to get zero in that meeting, but knowing you were only a 'temporary' team member, would you bust a gut to put points on the board in the League Cup meetings? He was also riding at 4 which put pressure on him to perform, whereas riding at reserve might give him time to get up to speed. Looking at his past there shouldn't be any reason he can't be riding in the main body of the team before the end of the season. Only time will tell! Feel sorry for Stephan, won heat 2 last night which contributed to our narrow victory, but just doesn't seem to be showing the potential he did last year before injury put him out. He's also been out scored by Connor up to now so I can see why they've done this.

Never said there was, just verbalising what I watched this afternoon. However the physical contact was caused by Lawson changing lines with Ellis being too close to come off the gas or change direction!
-
Seen the video this afternoon, coming down the home straight Ellis cuts back to be on the inside of Lawson, who then looks at him twice over his left shoulder before turning left across him, catching his front wheel with either his back wheel or dirt deflector, causing Ellis to lose control!

To be honest Drew Kemp put up quite a show tonight, don't know how he managed to get 'nil points'. He really put his heart and soul into this meeting. -

Actually he hasn't fully recovered, saw him warming up alone at the back of the terracing around 7 o'clock and still limping quite badly on his left leg. -
Yes I saw that and hope that it doesn't cause any issues with him riding for us on Thursdays. If he gets called up, then they have to be there on the Friday as well don't they?
-
Cook was in the GP's but didn't have a lot of sucess. Jack Holder was a wildcard in a couple of GP's in the limited 2020 series, when they were on his Polish track.
-
Wonder which one of them wanted too much money, Pickering or Batchelor
-
Don't want him anyway, more trouble than he's worth!
-
The only thing he can be described as is a liability! How many meetings did he actually ride in and how many heats did he actually complete? Think he ought to retire, he can't afford any more injuries at his age. Stick to the day job, digging holes for PBHS with his mate Proctor.

Sheffield vs Belle Vue 30/09/21 POSF 1st leg
Steve55 replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This decision could have been made 2 hours ago, it was quite obviously not going to stop raining any time soon. Feel sorry for any fans that have already set off, especially with the current fuel situation. -
Probably would have been, but now have to wait until Monday - just been rained off!

Not surprising, rain just got much heavier here, about 20 minutes from track! -

Local BBC weather forecast at 1345 today showed rain coming through from the west all afternoon and evening! Think the promotion were being optimistic about the meeting definitely being on this evening. Don't remember the track at Owlerton being able to take a lot of rain before it starts puddling! -
Agree totally. Rory rolled at start of heat 4.... this time all the way into the tapes! Why makes excuses for him!

You failed to mention your captain as well, from the reports he played a big part in the 'cry off' !
